i don't really want to weight in on the "using big words in your writing is ableist" discourse happening on tiktok because i'm like 90% certain it's an anti-intellectual psyop to stir up drama in online circles to promote the use of ai to summarize literally everything and thus feeding the LLMs and lowering the populace's mistrust of such tools but i also have to say: dictionaries and thesauruses are the most accessible they've ever been. if you use an e-reader of any kind you can look up a word without leaving the page. there's a plethora of online dictionaries and if you just type a word + "meaning" into google it'll usually give you a definition. we used to have pocket dictionaries we used when reading in class. i have two on my shelf right now that i used in high school. stop letting the fascists purposefully misuse anti-ableism rhetoric to trick you into never thinking again.

if you are going to need some kind of sedative for 4th of july fireworks for your pets NOW IS THE TIME TO SCHEDULE THOSE APPOINTMENTS TO ASK FOR THEM
NOT WHEN ITS 2 DAYS AWAY
I feel like to really get this circulating as it should, we need it superimposed over the picture of the turkey going in the fridge. (I can't do it I'm on my phone.)
With the 250th anniversary it's likely to be especially bad this year!
Not to be all "the children have forgotten the sacred texts!" but I just saw someone refer to a ship between two people who are good friends in canon as a crackship.
Hon. No. Crackship doesn't just mean "not canon". It's difficult to imagine two people who spend significant canon time together as a crackship. Crackship is when you write Galactus getting fucked by Tony the Tiger.
Gotta say, my absolute favourite notes on this so far have been the number of people congratulating Tony on his rebound from the Grinch.
The scene in Shrek 2 when the Fairy Godmother sings I need a Hero when the giant gingerbread man attacks the castle is still the greatest scene in cinema of all times
Moist Pupper;; aaaand the set’s complete!! Big thanks to the people that encouraged me to do all three of them lol It was fun to try out some new techniques!

Happy Pride all the queers in my phone. But an extra happy pride to all the bisexuals in straight passing relationships. To the trans people still living in the closet for their safety. To the nonbinary people getting misgendered. To the ace and aro people who sometimes feel like Pride isn’t for them. To the BIPOC people who face discrimination in the queer community. To everyone who feels like they aren’t queer enough.
You are enough. Pride is for you.
getting scambot messages from random accounts that clearly used to be normal active blogs is sad enough. you know that there used to be a real person on that blog until they were tricked into handing their password to the digital fae.
but it's an entirely new level of tragic when somebody you've actually spoken to gets turned into a bot account. it's like peeking at a zombie apocalypse through the window and realizing one of the shambling corpses was your friend.
and then the zombie catches sight of you, lurches up to your window, and shouts through the glass that they accidentally reported your account to tumblr and you'll be deactivated unless you click this link.
RIP to the blog that used to DM me to tell me they liked my new chapters. Their last known words spoken before being turned, 17 hours ago: "Ggs!" They were praising someone's deadlift.
the message they tried to get me with is probably the same message that got them, so for anybody who hasn't already been warned about the signs of a zombie account:
if you get something like this ↑ they're gonna follow up by instructing you to contact tumblr support on discord and give you contact info; or they're gonna link a website that looks sort of like tumblr support and say you have to email them; or any variety of "you must now contact tumblr, here is how you contact tumblr."
whatever they send you, it Does Not lead to tumblr. it leads to the master zombie that bit them and inducted them into the ranks of the undead, and will bite you the second they have your email and password. i might be confusing zombies and vampires. anyway,
it's easier to fall for these messages because the blog doesn't LOOK like a bot blog, because it ISN'T a bot blog. it's a normal person's blog that got accessed by a bot, meaning the blog's content CLEARLY looks like a real active user when you click on it. and yes—it might even be a blog you already know. sometimes bots like this go down a blog's DMs or reblogs and message people they've previously interacted with.
they got one of my treasured followers, and they can get you too. don't fall for their tricks. know the signs.
could an average, able-bodied person reasonably walk from where you live to a library, in good weather?
yes, because i live at a school/college etc with a library
yes, very easily
yes, there's a library in a reasonable walking distance
yes, but it'd take a while / terrain would suck to navigate
yes, but it'd take so long / be difficult enough to do that nobody would
no, there's no library in a reasonable walking distance
Okay so this poll is actually touching on a couple of important topics!
Hi, librarian here.
Walkable infrastructure and transportation srrvices to reach libraries is extremely important, but moreso for people with disabilities, adolescents, unhoused people. Libraries provide a great degree of resources to these three demographics. However, unlike our elderly population, nowhere near the same level of accommodation gets invested in meeting the needs of our patrons in those aforementioned groups. This is despite the fact that, statistically, automobile-centric infrastructure impacts all these folks way more.
This stems from a wide array of anger inducing reasons (suburban liberal regressive policy, federal funding cuts, battle royale metrics-driven budgets, tax restrictions, etc. etc.) that severely and disproportionately affect these groups in coverage of our outreach capabilities, and so the most helpful way we can provide our services, for the most part, is in person, on campus, save for certain delivery options that, due to everything I just mentioned, leaves so many folks falling through the cracks.
Thus, walkable infrastructure and transportation srrvices are a necessity for the time being for us to help as much as we can until we can dismantle the current system that views public services such as us as a drain on resources.
Behind every dumb reason we can't help more in our official capacity is some bureaucrat that we've never met who decided which types of people he wanted to see suffer today.
Also, need to put this out here, libraries are SO important to trans kids. Having an environment where they can be supported and provided eith free resources is life saving, and I can't tell you how happy I am every time a trans kid comes in to change their name for their library card. I know, I was one of them before I became the librarian helping those same trans children.
Support your fucken libraries, y'all.

Hey! Just a reminder! AO3 does NOT have an app. This garbage was made by theives who steal fan artist’s work and sell it back to you.
“Oh, but it’s free!” There are ads. They are making money off of this. They are stealing from the creators you love and you are hurting those same creators if you use this app or any similar app.
Don’t use it. Report it at every opportunity.
To summarize it overall:
App acts like a browser but paywalls offline reading while reviews state it’s full of intrusive ads and lacks basic functionality such as commenting. Do not use this app. Use the ao3 website. The app uses Gen-AI content for imagery on categories and is essentially forcing people to pay if they want to read your fics offline.
By the way you don’t have to pay anything to read fics offline. You can do it for free using easily accessible resources that don’t cost anything.
You do not need to pay $1 every week, $2 every month, or even $18 a year. It can be done free! By anyone!
You can also turn ao3 into an app itself by adding it to your Home Screen. You don’t need to download shady apps.
The way to read fics offline is by downloading them onto your device. AO3 lets you do this, in multiple file formats, right at the top of the page:
If you don't have a PDF reader on your phone, there are any free ones (I personally like ReadEra). Or you download it as HTML.
AO3 doesn't have an app, and doesn't need an app. Don't fall for this. There's no telling what they'll do with your login data.
this kingdom is going to shit man
