DRP Summer Camp - The Kiss // Eric and Rapunzel
Eric found that he was terribly relieved, when Rapunzel took charge of the situation. He had never approached a girl for anything like this. He’d never even held a girl’s hand before. But even with his limited knowledge, he at least knew that the two of them finding somewhere to be alone was a step in the right direction.
Even if he had sort of been dragged there by the sleeve.
Looking back, Eric saw that Noah and Lucas hadn’t followed, or he couldn’t see them, anyway… They could have been watching… The idea that they had stayed behind was much more comforting though.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped back from her a bit, and looked up at the moon for a distraction. With a nod, he murmured,
“This is much better… less embarrassing…”
Even with the fresh air, the full moon in sight, and wide open space, his heart was pounding, and the blush hadn’t faltered. He could only hope that the light was dim enough that she couldn’t tell.
Finally, Eric turned his blue eyes back to look at her, a determined spark in his gaze. When the words came, they were rushed, and half shouted.
“Rapunzel, may I kiss you?”
Once they were out, he seemed to shrink inward a little, mortified. Sheepishly, he added a whispered, “… please?”
Rapunzel had no idea by what he meant by “less embarrassing,” but she nodded anyway, appreciating that he at least seemed much more comfortable out here. Then, with the exception of some noisy crickets and singing evening birds, it was silent.
Biting the inside of her check, the princess suddenly took a fascination to the mosquito bite on her arm. She said nothing, not wanting to push her friend, so when he finally spoke, she jumped.
Eyes widening as she registered what he asked, Rapunzel stared at him.
“What?” Nervous laughter erupted from her lips as she tucked some hair behind her ear that hadn’t been out of place beforehand. “Eric… Why?”
Not something that would normally be asked in this kind of situation, but Rapunzel had known the prince for forever— they grew up spending summers together and sometimes major holidays. Sure, they acted somewhat different around each other in front of their friends, all kids did that. But now they were alone… according to her there didn’t have to be any kind of social pressure.
