Am I good enough for you to stay? was a question Jing Yuan didn't dare to ask when he was young and naive and saw his loved ones' backs turned towards him. Perhaps once, he could say with confidence, they would. They would stay by his side and let him soak in their warmth and their smiles, enjoy their company, love them. Now, he is not so certain they would.
Will I ever be good enough for you? is a question Jing Yuan asks himself as he watches the shadows of old friends drift away. He keeps a smile on his face as they walk away without looking back. No, he can say with confidence, they wouldn't, for they are not the same people they were before. He isn't the same. And yetâhe still loves them all the same.
A question that is met with no answer, no matter how many times he asks.
("Jing Yuan!" he hears someone scream as he falls.)
("Keep your eyes open, Jing Yuan," someone else snarls, desperate and full of rage. "Do you hear me? Keep them open!")
After all, there is no one around to answer.

The trio's dynamic in nutshell in my au.
These three have almost no frame of reference for what is normal and what isn't it, and, somehow believe the other two are far more adjusted than they are.
They aren't. None of them are remotely well adjusted. They be thinking "I have no clue what I'm doing but it's fine cuz the others do so I just gotta follow their lead." These are the leaders of our kingdom guys, we're cooked. Baked even.
I keep playing with their designs and stories though. The general theme for each cookie is still the same though.
Wizard Cookie is the Golden Prodigy. 'Loved' and under immense pressure. Success is the bare minimum. Failure has consequences. He must always acquire new achievements, be at the top. Being loved does not mean he can't be replaced.
Strawberry Cookie is the Unwanted Failure. She was made just to be hated. No matter how sweet she is, she can never compare to the real thing. A wannabe made just to prevent waste and even then it failed.
Gingerbrave is the Forgotten Accident. He wasnât even supposed to come to life. Had he not just enough life powder to come to life, he would have died in the oven. The Witch had even forgotten she was making his batch at all. His birth is miracle born from the love of others
On another note, the whole fiasco with beast yeast and shadow milk mega evolving has given me more material to work with. Especially the ultimate cookie. That's gonna be fun to tackle. Love how it was hammered in that although lacking in special traits, GingerBrave loves himself. Go my baby, self-love, gotta make up for your other two friends' lack of it.
ALSO, GINGERBRAVE SHOULD HAVE HAD ONE MEANINGFUL CONVERSATION WITH DARK ENCHANTRESS COOKIE! HE FREED HER! THAT WAS A BURDEN HE CARRIED FOR SO LONG! BUT APPARENTLY THEY JUST FORGOT ABOUT IT, HUH!
Anyway, I will be selecting what I want from canon and ignoring the rest now! Especially with the whole Silent Salt fiasco (That man had me CONFLICTED) but hey! I got more hyperfixation juice now! That fic is still a thing, I swear!!

âwhat if kids identify with something and it ends up just being a phase-?â good. stop teaching and expecting kids (and adults honestly) to formulate permanent traits and ideas of themselves. everything in life is a phase. that doesnât make it any less legitimate while you experience it. let people explore themselves and know itâs okay if what you think about yourself changes.
