Today was @the-real-surfski ‘s and my 11th wedding anniversary.

I was going to write some deep relationship advice shit about love and communication in celebration.

Instead we both worked all day and spent time getting ready for the kiddo’s birthday party tomorrow and ate a bunch of sushi and drank a bottle of prosecco.

Because that’s what 11 years is.

I never do this sort of thing, but I documented making pesto. Here’s the recipe:

I’m not Italian, I don’t claim this is in anyway authentic. I think I copied it down from a website at some point? I’m also not saying that this is any kind of superior recipe. But it’s yummy and relatively easy.

Ok so I picked all of the biggest leaves off both plants. They still look massive and lush and I got 6 packed cups of basil.

Washed them off and spread them out to dry while I walked Bella. Gratuitous picture of Bella:

Then toasted the pine nuts in the toaster oven. Ooo pretty:

Starting off with a double batch so next, 4 cups of basil and this 1/2 cup of pine nuts into the food processor with the equivalent of 4 cloves of garlic. I use jarred garlic. I hate dealing with garlic.

Pulsed this, then added 2/3 cup of nice olive oil. Seasoned it.

Oh no! I forgot to watch the pine nuts for the second batch!

😢 RIP pine nuts.

I did this in the morning and wasn’t going to use it until dinner, so half of the double batch went into the fridge with oil on top, and the rest is getting frozen.

Matches the countertop!

Took it out of the fridge about an hour before dinner so it could come back to room temperature. Added the cheese.

Mixed it up and voila!

Grilled some chicken, sautéed some spinach, boiled some rotini, and you’ve got dinner!

This is a new experiment. We shall see how it turns out. This is dry wall spackle on canvas in attempts to look like dragon scales. I used my lemon meringue pie technique on the spackle to make the scales because why not. Once it dries I plan to do the pour technique as seen by my other work. It may fail, it may not.

Fave food: I just had curry (with chickpeas and lentils and things) and it was really good, so curry. But in reality this question is much too hard and depends on my mood.

Dream vacation: I feel like I don't have a dream holiday as although I 100% want to visit many more countries there's something about being a tourist that puts me on edge, like I shouldn't be there. I don't like not being able to speak the language, and while I know tourism is very valuable and English + some basic phrases really the best second option, it just makes me feel unbearably rude and obnoxious. But I would like to live somewhere else in the world, somewhere Spanish-speaking, so I could actually make some friends with people who live there. But I need to research a bit more to really know, and I don't see it being a viable option in the near future, if ever!

The newest member of wall art. I didn’t like the previous black and gold one so I re-did it in red. The one to the right is new. I have been working on depth. Eventually when the new red spray paint arrives I’ll finish the third.

I do have to cut a few pieces off our @themirokai red Japanese maple for this to work, but it does need a trim. Ok for those that truly trim #JapaneseMaplesTrees only do in November or December in EST or you will f’ up your tree.

Grandmother pine, watercolour, 26,5x36 cm This is the finished portrait of the old pine in Havsvalladalen nature reserve. When the city of Gothenburg was founded in 1621, this pine was already 100 years old… The second photo gives a sense of scale between this painting and the colour study that I showed in the previous post.

Using tumblr is like living in a low class apartment building. You just get used to the landlord not fixing things, and then someone new moves in and you’re helpfully like “oh yeah don’t drink the tap water, it’s got stuff in it that makes you sick” and then your neighbor you’ve had forever goes “oh they took the stuff out actually” and you’re like “what? when was this?”

Knives are decorating the walls for the Ides Of March.

There’s a community movie night held on October 3rd where tenants choose to watch either Mean Girls or binge watch all of Fullmetal Alchemist.

Every single apartment opens their windows and blasts Earth, Wind, and Fire on the 21st of September

November 5th rolls around and the entire building just erupts into inexplicable chaos

@the-real-surfski put an 8 foot tree in the corner of our bedroom after we had vaguely agreed that the corner could use “a plant.”

It looks like this.

Surfski says that it was supposed to be more like 5 feet and the leaves will look nicer when they’ve been out of the box for longer.

I think this tree needs a name.

First ever ship: I’ve given this answer before but new followers since then so… I didn’t find online fandom culture until later in life (2020 to be exact) and the first ship I stumbled into was Mystrade from Sherlock. Mystrade shippers are lovely people and gave me a fantastic intro to online fandom.

Three ships: @themirokai asked me before mentioning me in this post. She said I could pass on the "shipping questions." I gave her a dumbfounded look and thought "I don't have a FedEx account." She then explained about ships. I then went 'OHHHHH." Probably no immediate ships. I would be interested in a rare pair with Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (Battlestar Galactica) / Shaw (Point of Interest). This would happen in the pre-cylon takeover world. I may take recommendations on others.
