i'm thinking about charlotte brontë spending her last years editing and publishing her sisters' writings and about christopher tolkien dedicating his life to the protection and meticulous reconstruction his father's life's work and about johanna van gogh publishing the letters between vincent and theo that would propel vincent van gogh into fame because she knew how much her husband had loved his brother, and about how so often art isn't just a reflection of the artist's mind and skills but a testament to the fact that they were loved
My sister just quoted this post at me over dinner bc it was discussed in her philosophy class & I can't even smugly inform her of its authorship. Due to the mindhunter yaoi state of my most recent blog history.
You can't discuss your life work because you are loved :(
it is really funny to me that some people can't see why I'd rather be queerbaited than settle for some boring canon ship like yeah obvs it'd be nice to see those guys kiss but I gotta be real with you I'd rather have a fleshed out relationship in the source material and then make the guys involved kiss in fanon than have guys kissing in the source material but then have to make up their relationship and characters in fanon
can you imagine 😭😭
what do you mean mike wheeler ends up alone in his basement playing games. what do you mean that he sits in the future will wanted to share with him, alone.
Fixed it
can we send up a quick thank you to pdf uploaders, torrent seeders, copy sharers, scanlators, fansubbers, digitizers, paywall dodgers, and various other internet archivers for making niche art and information more accessible in a media landscape where all but the most profitable mainstream are often tossed aside and left to rot
every universe except this one, i guess.
robin saying that time slowed down when she saw tammy....the ending shot of will wiping his nose being in slow mo....that shot being from mike's pov......IM GOING CRAZY
WAIT ONE FUCKING SECOND
I fear what everyone is forgetting about the parallels between Robin's story about Tammy and how that pertains to Will's relationship with Mike is that Robin isn't currently with Tammy and doesn't want to be. Robin's crush on Tammy was never about Tammy; it was about Robin. It was about her figuring out who she was and accepting that part of herself while ultimately crushing on a straight girl who never even looked at her and dated the most popular straight (or whatever, but Steve) guy.
Robin's telling this story to Will because she sees this relationship in Will's infatuation with Mike. That Will's hopeless devastating crush on him isn't about their potential relationship or even about Mike, it's about Will discovering himself and learning to be okay with that. Mike was Will's first friend, first best friend, of course as a young closeted gay teen he would be his first crush/love. But as Robin is telling Will, this love (or "love") is so intense because of what it is doing for You, not necessarily because it's the true love of your life. ("it was never about tone-deaf Tammy; it was about me." -> Will's crush on Mike isn't about Mike or Byler, it's simply a vehicle for Will to discover and accept his own queerness.) and, like Robin, Will will find someone who actually is queer and loves him back; maybe not where they originally hoped (Tammy / Mike) but in someone better (Vickie / ???).
unfortunately, I think this is the Duffers' way of effectively writing out byler as an option: Mike is Will's catalyst but not his endgame. (this is also because I see a lot more intention in Robin's scene(s) with Will than in Will's scene discovering his powers. in the former, they want to make a careful point and are using the script to do that. in the latter, they want an epic scene where Will saves the day and aren't really thinking about other implications. I refuse to overestimate the Duffer brothers and so should you.)
All this to say, I love byler. I eat that shit up. but unfortunately, Robin's talk to Will about Tammy / Mike and the parallels they have aren't indicative of Byler being canon, but the opposite. also, I dont necessarily believe that Byler isn't canon either. I want it so bad, but this conversation between Robin and Will about Tammy (and Mike) is telling me that they probably don't have the balls to go through with it.

Wills reaction to Robin and Vickie is actually taking me out.
