FUN SPOOKY JAMES FACTS!:
The Atari 2600 port of Pac-Man is wildly considered to be one of the worst video game ports of *all time*. That being said, the sound effects used in the game, are used in Hollywood shows all the time.
When I was a kid, during the summers in Michigan before bed, my grandmother and I would play a couple rounds of 2600 Pac-Man on an old black and white TV on her back porch. She would always kick my ass.
To this day, if I'm not expecting it, if those sound effects play during something I'm watching, my brain instantly goes back to those more innocent times.
If that isn't being visited by a ghost, I don't know what is.
I miss you, Gram.

Well shit, Henry Jenkins, out here in 1997 dropping truth bombs
Oh hey I need this for a research paper I'm writing, thank you!
i mean he had been out here since 1988 dropping such bombs:
"'fandom' is a vehicle of marginalized subcultural groups (women, the young, gays, etc.) to pry open space for their cultural concerns within dominant representations; it is a way of appropriating media texts and rereading them in a way that serves different interests, a way of transforming mass culture into a popular culture"
Jenkins, Henry. āStar Trek Rerun, Reread, Rewritten: Fan Writing as Textual Poaching.ā Critical Studies in Mass Communication 5, no. 2 (1988): 85ā107. https://doi.org/10.1080/15295038809366691. Ā
there are even some earlier works in fan studies but thatās what i have ready to hand.Ā
I like how like⦠with every new piece of Star Wars media that paints Tatooine as more and more of a shithole where everyone is a murderous crimelord the funnier it gets that Luke Skywalker just grew up on this planet completely normal. Like Iām envisioning a normal day at Tosche Station where a cyborg biker and aĀ Twi'lek prostitute are stabbing each other over a bag of spice and then it just pans over to this fresh-faced nancy boy sitting at a table sipping on his blue milk goingĀ āoh golly, I sure do love power converters!ā
Ok listen. Listen to me. Sometimes rural towns are just like that. I know someone who shot his cousin because they were playing with live ammo in their backyard and he never went to court. One time a guy who was driving my friend to school said āwatch thisā and snorted cocaine off of the steering wheel as he was turning a corner. And at the same time you will graduate alongside people who are completely innocent and have no idea shit went down. You will meet 17-year-olds who still donāt know how pregnancy works. This is one of the most realistic decisions in Star Wars
Luke thought his father was a navigator on a spice freighter, brought a rifle out to the desert with him in case he ran into the Sand People, and immediately got to wiping 3p0 and R2 of any identifying features because he knew the Jawas stole them. Luke knew damn well what kind of planet he lived on, but since he wasnāt personally involved in it crime was just another boring chore.
Luke: I want to join the Rebellion.Ā
Uncle Owen: What do you want to leave the planet for, huh? Treason here not good enough for you all of a sudden? Weāve got plenty of laws to violate right here.
Luke: I want to make a difference!
Uncle Owen: You can commit crime at home when your chores are done. No need to go anywhere else.

listen, Iām not the biggest fan of kids but if a child looks at me then you bet Iām gonna smile back at them. kids deserve to experience the world as a kind and safe place to explore okay.
But the world is not kind or safe.
then Fucking do your part to make it that way.
I literally spit water all over my screen.
For context
Is it lost? Is it trapped? Is it home? Is it innocent? Is it hunting you? Can you feel it watching you? Is it the house?
