Recently finished “The Unworthy” by Augustina Bazterrica.

To some horror might be an odd choice for a beach read but this short book is the perfect length for a leisurely day. I really enjoyed the writing format and the use of crossed out words. Stylistically it was fun and added to the Bazterrica fashion of offering little “world building” or context. I would describe it as speculative dystopian gothic horror.

Finished this hefty mystery last night, “God of the Woods” by Liz Moore. I enjoyed it despite it being outside of my typical genres. However, the more I learn about this book and how it relates to Donna Tartt’s “The Secret History” it makes sense that I enjoyed it more than I do most mystery novels. More moody literary fiction and mystery.
