@the-whump-scribe
it's always some shit like "whumpee is trembling and avoidant and has nightmares after getting whumped and doesn't like restrictive clothing because it reminds them of being tied up" NO! THAT'S BORING.
just once i wanna see them being traumatized in weird ugly incomprehensible ways. they start fantasizing about being kidnapped and then feeling intense guilt about it. they feel more comfortable when other people make decisions. they tie their own hands with a scarf and wonder why on earth this calms them down. make your characters seek out and retraumatize themself. give them just enough self awareness to know this is weird, but not enough to understand why they do it.
Badly injured character rolling onto their back or side, gasping for air, eyes unfocused, pained wheezing followed by a little breathless laugh.
just another beautiful day on Gore of My Comfort Character Island
Identification.
A pierced ear with a tag slotted into it, a notched horn to indicate something to those in the know, a thin collar like a hospital band made of bright plastic or fabric, a metal shackle with no place to put chains, only engraved with information like a bird's band.
YES IDENTIFICATION TAGS!
My dude has a gold-plated ear cuff pierced through his ear (and permanently melted closed) with a stamped “M” on it, an arm tattoo with his facility-given ID number, and multiple trackers embedded in his neck and spinal column (in areas where he can't cut them out)—you know, because you can never be too careful when it comes to securing the whereabouts of such a pricey asset!
Reference pic of the type of ear tag he has:
[ID. An ear cuff. End ID.]
“I feel weird” is just my FAVOURITE whump line. It implies that Whumpee is unwell or hurt, and probably a bit confused and disoriented…. they don’t quite understand what’s happening to them, but something isn’t right.
Bucky as the Winter Soldier being trained to ignore pain to the point that it becomes a Problem. he throws himself through glass doors and windows, tears through thorns and razor wire, hurls his body down onto vehicles and from windows and down steep slopes leaving himself bruised and with cracked ribs, forces broken bones to carry his weight. He tanks bullets and heavy blows and keeps going, relentless. He keeps getting burns from recklessly setting off explosions and standing too close to burning debris
this is basically canon, in CA:TWS he flung his body around like he didn't care the damage he was going to do to it.
He knows his body can take basically anything and they'll fix him up, and he acts accordingly. Taking out his knife and digging out bullets and shrapnel when they hamper his movement, stuffing wounds with whatever filthy material he has on hand, whether that's cloth or just wads of grass and mud. Stitching himself back up, slicing wounds back open to drain the pus if they get infected and then back to the mission.
on one mission a soldier stabs him in the gut with a bayonet and he drives the barrel of the rifle through his body to grab the soldier by the throat and crush his neck. after that the Soviet officers call him "the wild boar"
adopting a guardian angel from the shelter but theyre untrained and undersocialized so i have to chain them up in the yard during the day to keep them from tearing up the furniture and they try to smite anybody who comes too close to the house
I feel like having wings violently burst out of your back would just feel really good. Like itd feel awful but also itd feel really satisfying.
Like popping a pimple?
*so horny i’m fading in and out of consciousness* vivisection…
not as a metaphor for sex either. the concept
Sure we all love it when caretaker asks "are you okay" and stoic whumpee goes "I'm fine" when clearly not. But what if whumpee is so out of it that they just shake their head and lean on caretaker's chest.
MILD hurt/comfort? nuh uh. torture him. sepsis. swept downstream in a frozen river. 6 month convalescence. commit to it.
booboos on his body AND his soul AND his dignity
humble that man. he should have to be nursed back to health my his romantic interested and accidentally throw up and pass out on them when they try to clean his wounds
he has the sniffles? aww. now have him be thrown from his horse and dragged for half a mile.
caretaker gentle wiping the blood off of whumpee after a frantic emergency surgery on the dining table
Fantasy Guide: Common battle wounds and how to fix them
Arrow wounds: Now if the lung, heart, kidney, other major organ is hit, there may be little to do. The kidney has a back up, so maybe a skilled surgeon could save him, not exactly sure however. If hit by an arrow and not hit dangerously in an organ or artery, we can help. Firstly, DO NOT REMOVE arrow by yanking. Arrow must be worked from the skin by skilled hands. Once arrow is out, wash would with clean water/alchohol/herbal remedies. To heal slow, sew up wound and wrap in bandages. To speed it up, cauterise the wound with fire. It will hurt and patient pay pass out but now the arrow wound can heal faster. This works for crossbow bolts as well. On the gross side, arrows may be smeared with dirt or shit, so sepsis is a danger. This is how the great Richard the Lionheart died. Sometimes the mighty lion is killed by a shit arrow. But hey, shit happens. Arrow wounds take a couple of weeks to heal.
Sword slashes: if shallow, wash and bind up. May require stitches. If deeper, repeat process with more stitches and more bandages. Even if shallow, the cut must be washed using alcohol or clean water. May take a few days to weeks to heal depending on wound depth and severity.
Stab wound: Again don’t remove knife or object. If already removed, wash would and sew it up. You may need to cauterise. If guts, organs, brain, is falling out, there is nothing to do. This may take a couple of weeks to months to heal depending on wound.
Broken Bones: A break must be splinted with a board of wood and bandages. Slings can support arms and wrists. If your character breaks a leg, it may be worse. Breaks don’t heal great without modern medicine. Your character may have a limp or leg pain. In you’re are living in a hot climate, you’re pretty much fucked because infection sets in fast. These may take months to heal.
For @maslovianwench
"Teammate, call an ambulance!" Whumpee orders.
"Whumpee, I'm fine. The bullet just grazed me, I don't need an ambulance," Leader protests.
It's then that they see the expression of pain on Whumpee's face, the hand pressed to their side, the redness starting to soak into their clothes.
Whumpee speaks through gritted teeth. "I do."
Remember: if they can regenerate it is completely okay to do as much brutality as you want because they'll just heal it away anyways ^_^
my favorite genre of fictional character is like "i am terrifying to almost everyone, i'm very good at killing, i can endure anything, i've become exceptionally good at playing into my reputation, and if you try to give me positive social interaction i will react with confusion and cower in a corner like an abused animal. and i may try to shoot you. but there is also a chance i may imprint on you like a feral dog receiving its first loving touch! good luck."
