The original phrase appears to be kallokeli, in which kallo or kalla (from Swedish kall, kalla, kalle) refers to ice. The modern term pääkallokeli was therefore created as a misunderstanding because kallo in kallokeli similar to the word pääkallo (lit. “head skull”).

Keli in Finnish means “weather condition”.

The Finnish usage of kallo for cold is probably a pretty old loan word, too. I don’t live anywhere near Sweden, so it could be just that, but I’ve never heard kallo/kalla being used for cold in Finnish. Instead, where I’m from, you sometimes hear the word holotna (from Russian хо́лодно).

So I follow N. D. Stevenson (comics writer and animator, most famous for Nimona and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) and his husband Lee Ostertag (also a comics writer and animator) on Instagram. When I started following them, they were both publicly presenting as women, and then a few years ago N. D. came out as transmasc nonbinary, and then earlier this year Lee also came out as transmasc. Anyway this is all setup to say that Lee had the chance to make the funniest post of all time and he took it:

In Super Mario 64 DS, normally only Mario can get past the Endless Stairs to get to the Bowser in the Sky course and fight the final battle against Bowser. However, using glitches, it is possible for Luigi to get past the Endless Stairs as well.

This causes the cutscene after defeating Bowser to become glitched. Normally, touching the big star as Mario turns him into Wing Mario and starts a cutscene of him flying away. However, touching it as Luigi turns him into Wing Luigi, which is a form that is not supposed to exist. He cannot move in this form and will remain standing for the rest of the cutscene. In addition, a Mario is also spawned, and also does nothing.

The explanation for this is that under normal circumstances, the playable Mario despawns and is surreptitiously replaced with a cutscene Mario. However, the code does not state "remove the player character", but instead "remove the player Mario", so it fails to remove Luigi, while also spawning the Mario that is supposed to replace the removed Mario. In the end, neither the anomalous Wing Luigi nor the cutscene Mario are equipped to correctly handle the situation and simply continue standing around until the scene fades out.
