okay you know what keeps me up at night?? is during the Nona epilogue. When Gideon is shouting at Alecto and Harrow is like. In her body once more. Do you think Harrow recognized Gideon’s voice? Like, Harrow looked at Ianthe, in Ianthe’s direction where Gideon presumably is, so she hypothetically could’ve SEEN Gideon, right? Do you think Harrowhark Nonagesimus, a woman who lobotomized herself and walked into the River so her cavalier could live, a woman who thought she would never hear her Griddle’s voice again, got to hear Gideon Nav speak for the first time in over a year in that moment?? And then Kiriona “I just don’t care anymore but also I’m going to beg to know where Harrow is so I can find her and bring her back” Gaia had to watch her girlfriend’s fake ice-lolly-bimbo girlfriend throw Harrow over her shoulder and walk out the door??? And Gideon could do nothing??? Do you think about how they were technically. For a brief moment. In the same room. BECAUSE I DO.
Go! Rocky, Go!
if I see one more "why age verification is bad" post that doesn't even bother to mention that locking young people out of huge sections of the public sphere - literally the stated goal and primary impact of this shit - is wrong in and of itself I will simply start hitting people with bricks
yes yes biometric data privacy blah blah adults can hypothetically by harmed by this too. what about the immediate and deliberate and not at all hypothetical harm to youth. why are you acting like a potential data leak about what your face looks like, which if it ever happened would at least be generally recognised as a problem, is a more serious issue than cutting millions of people off from information and community and public expression which is happening right now in the open with large scale support
it's got the stench of fucking "banned books week" on it. thousands of adults congratulating themselves for reading books literally no one is trying to stop them from reading while doing nothing to improve access for the young people who are the ones actually having those books made off-limits to them.
I just keep thinking about how Ryland Grace used to be a regular at his local diner.
Love the soft, curious moments of them sharing about their own cultures, biology, etc. I do think Rocky would have a field day when Grace explains skin as a very sensitive and permeable organ with lots of stuff packed tight on the surface. Since goosebumps are very tactile, I thought Rocky would enjoy hearing those.
Also, bonus.
Because it is endlessly entertaining to me to consider how deep in the trenches Rocky is.
I was inspired by the black-out poems made by @playing-with-colors and decided to apply it to the locked tomb series!
Palamedes my beloved
"The last time any human touched Ryland Grace was an act of horrific violence"
Well... Yes and no.
The last time Ryland Grace was CONSCIOUS of any human touch was when he was knocked out. Absolutely true.
But the last human contact he would have had was Yao and Ilyukhina. Who were told that he was scared about panicking during launch and asked to be sedated. Who did all the pre flight checks before the Hail Mary launched. Who would have carefully, gently carried Grace to his bed in the dormitory, made sure he was secure, and initiated his coma procedure.
There would have been love there. Remember Ilyukhina throwing her hands high and saying "welcome to crew!" Remember Yao saying how he hoped Grace would say yes. Remember how much the crew trusted Grace, Stratt's First Officer, the guy who helped them so much, and was so kind to them, and was the one who they entrusted their preferred methods of suicide to. Who thought they were wonderful and brave.
They would have tucked him in. Maybe brushed his hair out of his face. Maybe said something kind to him before initiating their own coma procedures.
Ryland Grace doesn't remember, of course he wouldn't. But the last human touch he ever had was full of love.
ianthe: harry can't POSSIBLY love you, nav; she lobotomized herself to forget about you! to love is to remember!
not five pages earlier: gideon waxing poetic about how harrow tenderly wrapped gideon's sunglasses (that harrow allegedly hated btw) and sealed them tightly in an envelope for eight months on the OFF CHANCE gideon came back in some way shape or form
gideon: yeah seems legit. i mean she didn't even seem happy when i died for her so like.
I always think there's a period during the 5 year journey to Erid where Rocky had to learn how to touch Grace and I mean that in the most general, safety first, way possible. Even through the mesh, a wrong pinch of the claws could Shatter Grace's bones since Rocky comes from a double gravity and has no nerves on his carapace to gauge pressure with.
I imagine him practicing his gentle touch on a doll or a puppet he had made from frail materials because he needs a lot of finesse and motor control if he wants to come in contact with his favorite space oddity without tearing his skin off like the foil off a sandwitch.
Grace constantly covered in deep angry bruises because Rocky bumped into him too hard or reached to hold his hand too excitedly. Grace never telling Rocky because he was trying so hard to be controlled already.
Rocky deciding to keep himself as still as possible when Grace hugs him because a single wrong move could end up with Grace's delicate limbs under +300 kgs of solid mineral.
Physical touch being hard earned and the result of a surgeon's precision.
Pacific Rim dir. Guillermo del Toro | 2013
I think we are focusing on the wrong thing when talking about mainstream romantasy adult books, instead of shaming straight cis women for reading kinky books, we should tralk about how most of the newer books aimed at that demographic are just conservative propoganda, rebranding patriarchy as a kink.
There's nothing inherently wrong about liking the types of kinks that are present, control, power imbalance, dark themes, but when you really look at the top performing novels (which they are mass prodicing at questionable speeds) it's hard to ignore the ever present morally grey man, who's posessive over the heroine who starts off as otherworldly different from the 'regular woman' aka damsel in distress), is cruel to everyone except her, and the fantasy world revolves around the control of women, especially when it comes to forced pregnancy.
hate when I type :) and this 🙂 fucker appears. Go away you evil soul
Dahling you simply must read this book! It’s all about this devious little caterpillar who simply gorges himself on all manner of divine things
no wonder Mother Earth is always leaking at her cracks....those are her orogenous zones
