Lilia was avoiding her teammates.

Okay, not entirely her teammates. Mainly just going back to the watchtower.

It wasn’t their fault, not at all. She was just… drained. Between PR, interviews, missions, and the entirety of being a New Avenger, she just wanted to feel normal as she walked the streets of New York. She loved her team, they were all she had, but all the banter and arguments and bickering got to her on occasion. It wasn’t anyone in particular, just everybody together. Not bad, just overstimulating.

Thankfully, most New Yorkers didn’t bat an eye at an Avenger - they were used to much, much crazier things. And she was silently thankful for that. Sure, she loved helping people, but sometimes it was all just too much.

Could you blame her?

So, rather than returning, she continued to roam. As if her legs would never give out. Dressed casual, a tank top and jeans, doc martens, and a cap pulled over her head just in case anybody decided to give her a second look. Not the best disguise, but the most disguise she was motivated to put on before escaping the tower.

She started edging her way into her favourite coffee shop. Sitting down with her drink in a window booth.

Watching people walk, live normally.

She wanted that. She missed that; but she questioned how she could miss it.

Normality was something she’d never had but always craved. She missed having friends who weren’t just part of her team. She missed relationships. She missed when everything wasn’t so intense all the time.

She sighed into her coffee, face down. Until she heard footsteps approaching, and someone sliding into the booth opposite her.

Lilia wasn’t supposed to be out drinking.

She knew that very well.

Not because she was under 21 or anything like that.

It had been forbidden, something about the team and their public image. But New York never looked twice at a member of the Avengers out in public.

So, since when did she ever listen to rules since being freed from the Red Room?

That’s why she was stumbling back into the watchtower at 2 o’clock in the morning. Trying to be as quiet as she could, unable to contain her soft drunken giggles as she went up the elevator, stepping through the compound’s kitchen.

Her lack of sobriety made her think she was invincible, meaning she thought that there was no way she would get caught.

Maybe if she wasn’t tipsy out of her mind, her Russian spy/assassin self wouldn’t get caught, but a drunk stumbling super soldier certainly would.

When she felt the hand on her shoulder, she jumped, reflexes kicking as she swayed but still managed to grab the person’s wrist and pin them to the ground with her bottle still in the other hand - not spilling single a drop.

Finally realising who it was, and that she’d been caught.

Lilia couldn’t sleep.

It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence. The insomnia clawing at the edges of her brain. Nightmares creeping up like an enemy she just couldn’t quite get off her tail. Super soldier serum running hot through her veins, uncomfortable, wrong. Her whole body felt like it didn’t belong.

So she punched. She got dressed, went to the gym, and punched. She’d been at it for 2 and a half hours now, her knuckles red and bleeding. Sweat on her body. Curls tied back into a braid. She wasn’t thinking, wasn’t feeling, just punching. The blood running down her arms from her knuckles left unacknowledged — as if she was stuck in her own mind, watching somebody else punch that bag, while her nightmares and past tormented her from where she was inside.

She hissed quietly, hands stinging as she punched the bag.

Left hook. Jab. Uppercut. Right hook. Jab. Uppercut. Left hook. Jab. Uppercut.

The words simply kept replaying in her mind with each of her movements, her eyes glossy. The punching bag surprisingly still intact. Barely.

She hissed, hooking another punch. The sound rattling throughout the quiet gym. It was the middle of the night, after all. She panted, her fingers trembling.

All she could see in front of her was not the bag, but the nightmares plaguing her. Red Rooms. Blip. Thanos. The aliens. People leaving and not coming back. She didn’t even notice the wetness on her cheeks, punches relentless.

It was Christmas at the Avengers Tower.

Well, not quite, but the holiday season at least. December and its chilly air easily taking over New York City.

Lilia was never one for festivities. They’d never celebrated it in the Red Room, she hardly knew much of it until she was freed. And yet, with roping in from her teammates, she only gave in a little to the festive spirit, hence the little red bow in her hair, and a Christmas sweater.

She said it was just so they’d stop calling her a grinch, but the fact they cared so much made her more happy than she’d ever admit.

She did like the gift buying and ice skating, though. Gift giving was her love language, a way she could show she cared without the struggle of words, and ice skating was a simple passion - a hobby she’d equipped throughout the years.

And now, believing she was alone, Tasha curled around her feet with a little red cat sweater, she put up ornaments on the Tower’s Christmas Tree in the common room. Quietly humming Christmas Carols to herself.

By every means, she’s a lightweight. And she’d had to have a few shots with Yelena to hype herself up into actually attending the event. She had a glass of wine in hand now, standing, watching the partygoers. She loved partying, but only when she was drunk enough for the confidence and ability to properly socialise. She was about halfway there.

Her Patrick Bateman costume was a little warm, she’d added fake blood on both her head and the costume. Swinging her fake axe in her other hand idly, fidgeting as she took big sips of her drink. She looked like she wasn’t enjoying it, but she was. She liked watching other people and chatting, as she started getting tipsier. Laughing and swaying to the music, loosening up.

He adjusted his mask slowly, the glossy white face of Ghost Face catching the light in sharp contrast to the black hood that framed it. The fabric of the costume hung loose over his frame. His wings rustled uncomfortable beneath the costume, but he could handle it- for tonight at-least. He stopped for a moment again as he looked around, unaware he now stood next to you.

She looked like she wasn’t enjoying it, but she was. She liked watching other people and chatting, as she started getting tipsier. Laughing and swaying to the music, loosening up.

Morgan wasn't sure why she was here. She wasn't exactly well known, nor was she... Y'know, a big league hero either. But she knew a lot of people. And those people knew people. And somehow, through this chain of social awkwardness, she had ended up invited to a boozy party.

Her cheap beige trenchcoat crinkled as she moved about the room like a shark, not really looking for anything in particular, but she just didn't want to stand still.

Why couldn't Audrey have come? She was popular; she knew supes-

Not paying attention at all, she accidentally stepped on the foot of a different woman in the room- one that looked like she belonged there.

"Oh- crap, I'm so sorry-"

Lilia turned her head towards the girl, a small smile on her face that she’d never usually have on her she was sober. “Don’t stress it.” She replied, giving a kind shake of her head. Her own eyes were a bit faraway, but she was still managing. “You okay?”

"Oh, yeah. I'm good. Just...going through the motions." She offered a weak, but still reassuring smile, hands t-rexed out in front of her. She subconsciously noticed this, moving her hands down awkwardly.

Part of her wished she had a drink, something to make herself look busy with, but she knew drinks at partied were an awful idea.

"How about you?"

Lilia nodded softly. Thoughtfully. “Going through the motions.” She repeated with a smile. Taking a long swig of her drink.

“I’m getting drunk before I can regret coming or think about how ridiculous I look.” She half-grinned, brutally honest, that one thing was the same any state she was in.

"You look fine," she reassured, gesturing incoherently with her hand. "It's classy." Unlike her cheap John Constantine closet cosplay. The word drunk made her face tighten a bit, but she shook it off.

"You uh... come around here often?"

"Axe-murderer classy." She joked. "I like your costume." She replied, taking a sip of her drink. She shrugged playfully. "Well, unfortunately the watchtower is also my house and I got dragged out. So I guess you could say yes." She hummed thoughtfully, leaning on one leg. "What about you?"

"Thank you." She did a little mock twirl, trenchcoat swishing. "And Patrick Bateman is classy. I've met waaay less classy axe murderers." She put her hands up as if to emphasize the point.

She shifted her weight back onto her heels, the tension in her body slipping slightly. "Never in my life. This is a nice place though. Very..." She gestured to the walls of windows. "See through."

“Very true.” Lilia laughed. “He- I mean I have that very strict classy routine.” She joked, watching her twirl. “I’m Lilia, by the way.”

“Well, welcome then. Yeah, it is very see through. And very high.” She hummed thoughtfully, staring out at the city and skyscrapers out the windows.

"Morgan." She exchanged, repeating Lilia's name a few times over in her head, before holding her hand out for a handshake. "It's nice to meet you."

The highest that Morgan had ever been in a building was the third floor of her crappy five story apartment building back in Tuscaloosa. Moving to New York was like walking through a portal. There weren't many buildings down south above three floors; everything out there grew out. The city grew up.

“It’s nice to meet you too, Morgan.” Lilia nodded, with a grin. “How are you liking the party and the people? It’s pretty busy..” Her eyes wandered across the room, analysing each and every person in her head.

Lilia is already drunk when she shows up to the party.

By every means, she’s a lightweight. And she’d had to have a few shots with Yelena to hype herself up into actually attending the event. She had a glass of wine in hand now, standing, watching the partygoers. She loved partying, but only when she was drunk enough for the confidence and ability to properly socialise. She was about halfway there.

Her Patrick Bateman costume was a little warm, she’d added fake blood on both her head and the costume. Swinging her fake axe in her other hand idly, fidgeting as she took big sips of her drink. She looked like she wasn’t enjoying it, but she was. She liked watching other people and chatting, as she started getting tipsier. Laughing and swaying to the music, loosening up.

“Hey! Lily!” Emilia spots Lily from across the room. She’s basically already drunk. Halloween and parties are basically her thing. She’s dressed as a fairy with glitter all over her. She’s giggly and smily. She’s also a little bit flirty when she’s drunk which doesn’t mix well when her and Lily have been flirting for a while.

Lilia grinned sharply, taking a sip of her drink and meeting Emilia halfway. “Hey, Em.” She came up with the nickname on the spot. It was a rare sight to have the widow smiling, but she was. “Cute costume.” Her eyes raked up and down her with a hum. “You’re very sparkly.” She teased sweetly.

Emilia smiles widely “thanks…I’m a fairy…” she explains then immediately mentally kicks herself ‘of course she’s a fairy, why would she even say that’

“A cute fairy.” She replied with a smile. Readjusting her own costume.

Emilia giggles drunkenly at Lily’s compliment “thanks….and you are….” She analyses Lily’s costume as she tries to guess. She’s not really a horror movie person but shes trying her best.

“Oh, c’mon. You really haven’t watched American Psycho?” She gasped. “I like to dissect girls. Did you know I’m utterly insane?” She quoted in laughter. “We’ll have to watch it sometime.”

“Can you dissect me sometime?” horrible joke, why the fuck would she say that? She’s way too drunk and wants to crawl into a home and die of embarrassment. A wave of confidence suddenly hits “we should go dance!”

“Kinky.” She joked with a laugh. Nudging her. She raised her eyebrows. “Dance?” She wasn’t a big dancer, other than her old ballet. But she figured it couldn’t hurt. “If you insist.”

Emilia smiles wider. Grabbing her hand and pulling Lily onto the dance floor. “It’ll be fun!” She holds Lily’s face drunkenly before pulling away, not thinking much of it

Lilia laughed. “I trust your judgement.” She joked, easily being strung along to the dance floor with a big smile.

Emilia knew that Lily wasn’t a big dancing person so she decides to guide her. She puts Lily’s hands on her own hips and throws her own arms around Lily’s neck so they can dance together

Lily did her best to follow the music, and her. Which wasn’t hard, considering she’d had her eye on her since she came over. A smile permanently etched onto her lips.
