the bits that anyone actually cares about are two bottom-4-bottom retired villains, one an ex assassin with martial arts cancer and 8 nipples who wants to drink and die in peace, the other one of the most dramatic men you will ever meet who sprouts corny ass poetry and lines with negative shame cause why be ashamed baby we all die sometime and they become soulmates [censored] raise 3 kids together until one of their ex's comes back for a 2 episode sub plot like a mid-season love interest in a sitcom that got kicked off the show quick b/c everyone hated their ass and then the sword society shows back up b/c the prettiest assassin you will ever meet with the biggest daddy issues you will ever see didn't listen to his fucking lesbian girl gang and drop his broke ass daddy who never ONCE complimented his banging eye makeup and hair decided to Make Plot Shit Happen b/c it's like episode 34 and we gotta wrap! this! shit! up! and then someone sneezes so the show reenacts the scene where Mulan took out the Huns and then our bottom retired villain husbands get to ACTUALLY fucking retire and one of them gets a new sesshomaru wig and it's glorious

memprime vs The Kitchen: Rice Cooker Edition

In today's adventure, we are going to see what can be cooked in a rice cooker. As any good scientist should, we are repeating the experiment documented here by yeahdragon.

Note: I am not paid to endorse any products on this post.

I am not subjecting our 40 year old rice cooker to this experiment, so I acquired a new rice cooker for this.

I chose the Aroma Rice & Grain Cooker because it was small and also inexpensive on Amazon.

It comes with a rice spatula and a measuring cup,so that was nice.

As with any good science experiment, we start with a control. In this case, it was just rice and plain water.

I used Royal Basmati Rice from Costco.

It came out with a few dark bits, but nothing big or bad. It tastes just like what basmati rice is supposed to taste like.

Next up: Chicken broth.

Next I decided to use chicken broth for the liquid.  For this, I used Swanson Chicken Broth with 33% Less Sodium.

It came out looking ok on top...

However, it got definitely brown on the bottom. Mr Mem said about the unburnt bits that it "tastes like eating plain rice while I yelled 'chicken broth' from the other room". Take of that what you will.

Sidebar: The lid handle design leaves a bit to be desired.  There's water trapped between the lid and the knob.  I know it's a minor thing and relatively easy to remediate, but I shouldn't have to bring out a screwdriver to clean my dishes.

Experiment of the hour: Gatorade

I chose the Gatorade Frost Thirst Quencher mainly because I knew I wasn’t going to use it all, and this one doesn’t taste half bad.

View before I turned it on.

It’s done cooking.  It looks decidedly blue, and I could hear it sizzling as I took the lid off the cooker.  There is a decidedly blue tinge to the rice.

Well, it was not unexpected, but there are brown bits on the bottom.

Mr Mem said, "it's rice with a non-rice taste in it, like you used water from the Chicago River to steam it or something."

It tastes slightly sweet, smells sickly sweet, and has an aftertaste of children's cough syrup.  The brown bits tastes even sweeter than the non-brown bits.  It doesn’t taste caramelized. 

Final Review: 

The rice cooker did its job.  None of the rice stuck to the pot. +1

Having the rice spatula and measuring cup accessories was nice. +1

The water between the lid and the knob is annoying. -1

The rice cooked in water and the rice cooked in broth turned out mostly ok. +2

The rice cooked in Gatorade, I do not recommend unless you like the taste of cough syrup in your rice.
