starfury conventions into the fold convention goers in march 2024 where are we AT i am going and need cool mutuals 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
shadow and bone season 2 where everything is the same but goat
dropping things about kaz brekker, except it’s just stuff i’ve said about him in the tags of previous posts
kaz:
- backstory would make any therapist cry
- kins elsa from frozen
- sings RIP to my youth on full blast
- emotionally constipated
- takes down and kills exploitative people ! my man !
- basically the same person different fonts as tommy shelby
- would befriend alina over the letter opener incident
the contrast between jordie in kaz’s memories, and the ghost of jordie that haunts him, is something so jarring to me. because we all know jordie was kind, kaz’s older brother that bought him hot chocolate and a coat and would stop at nothing to look after him. he even died cuddling his little brother. so then why is the jordie that haunts kaz so mean? why does kaz seem to seek jordie’s forgiveness, despite doing nothing wrong? underneath it all, he believes it was his fault jordie died.
reminders for the grishaverse fandom in general (minor TW for brief SA mentions)
- kaz brekker is disabled, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay to call him a cr*pple [i]. don’t use slurs you can’t reclaim
- wylan is canonically dyslexic. “wylan can’t read” jokes aren’t funny
- leading on from this, “jordie floaty” jokes also aren’t funny. that’s just joking about trauma
- alina was a child, the darkling is an old, old man. he did not truly ‘love’ her, he groomed her
- nina does have a personality outside of being plus-size. she isn’t just the waffles girl, and the show constantly making her the only one to be strongly associated with food and food jokes is kinda fatphobic tbh
- if you’re cis and only headcanon wylan as transmasc bc you think he’s an ‘uwu van sunshine baby’, you’re probs just transphobic
- calling inej an ‘investment’ over and over again and reinforcing that joke is just a bit of a slap in the face to trafficking survivors
- people can enjoy the books and the show as separate things, but people are also allowed to be dissatisfied with one or the other and consume media critically. in terms of inclusivity and intersectionality, critical consumption is actively encouraged
- if you’re unhappy with casting then hate the casting directors and producers, not the cast themselves
- the media itself may be fictional, but there are real-life issues at play. ableism, representation of plus-size bodies, SA, etc. fiction does affect reality as it is often the lens through which we view and engage with certain types of oppression
something i wish we got more of in the grishaverse in general is kaz and disabled grief. i want to see fourteen year old kaz, upcoming lieutenant, furious at himself for getting injured like this. learning how to work with it, refusing to use his cane at first only to inevitably end up collapsed somewhere, in huge amounts of pain without it. begrudgingly using it, and figuring out he can use it to his advantage. being angry and irritable on random days when it all comes back to him. disabled grief is so real and i really wish we saw more of it tbh
No wonder Jesper gave Wylan a key
Even if he wasn't really thinking when he did it and mey regret that, but
-His mom is dead
-Kaz is more distant every time, specially after s2´s events
-His bond with Nina is non existent on the show (Alright, Nina´s bond with anyone is non existent on the show but i will shut up before i begin to rant)
-The crows are not a part of the dregs yet, so any friend he could have there is not included
-Big Bollinger here is not presented as a duo with Jesper and is mentioned that he no longer wants to play with him
-Doing the math, if Wylan is old enought to graduate from university (18?) then Jesper has been way more time on Ketterdam than in the book , which means either he hasn't been in contact with Colm for at least two years or (given that a lot of things can change) maybe they already sort of talked and had a let down . However it is, he doesn't have him close
He is not in love with Wylan yet as much as he is infatuated, but he is the only stable person on his life right at the momment so he is holding on what he has.
i want to show some fucking appreciation for amita suman. inej was most likely forced to strip in front of clients while at the menagerie. and i think amita’s acting shows that, her facial expressions in this scene show that she’s thinking of the last time she had to do this, there’s a hardness in her expression. but when she sees the kaz is turned away, his eyes averted, her gaze softens
for people who haven’t read the shadow and bone/ six of crows books, but have seen the show:
- inej ghafa is a survivor of childhood sex trafficking. she has ptsd and reacts in a panic attack at even walking past the menagerie
- kaz’s trauma isn’t just pekka rollins being responsible for jordie’s death, and waking up on the barge. he had to swim to shore, age nine and barely alive, using jordie’s body as a float
- the darkling has done far worse things than are shown on screen. he is not a ‘lost man’ and alina is not his ‘balance’
- alina was seventeen upon the darkling being nsfw/ romantic with her
- matthias helvar did not lead drüskelle, that was jarl brum- matthias is only just barely an adult himself
- the crows are not their own separate gang, they are part of the dregs, who per haskell leads and kaz takes over from haskell after haskell sold out his lieutenant (kaz) to pekka rollins
- zoya, genya, and alina have personalities outside of either being traumatised or hating each other
- alina never wanted any of the power and fame and idolatry, and in the end of the books is stripped of it all. she is very happy about this
- jesper is a gambling addict and somebody who watched the death of his mother
- matthias went back to hating nina's guts when she put him in jail. his first few chapter povs in six of crows are all about his dreams of hunting her down and torturing/hurting her with his bare hands and hating himself viciously for his "other" dreams. when they reunited, he immediately tries to strangle her. the show watered down his hatred by removing the book scenes of him likening her to a dog or saying that her kind shouldn't exist or the fact that he had no clue, no clue at all!!, that she stayed in ketterdam for him while he was in hellgate. he thought she left him there to rot
-zoya hated alina for her power, the only thing the darkling wanted alina for. i hated the implication that show!zoya warmed the darkling's bed and that she was sexually jealous of alina replacing her that way. zoya was his general bc she was powerful, not bc of her flirtarious nature and not thru sleeping together. that implication, along with his show-invented love interest being the reason behind the fold, removed from the impact of the darkling manipulating alina's emotional vulnerability when he appealed to her romantic notions of him. he is not some lonely, touch-starved boy in need of company to fulfill his sexual needs. thats the last thing on his mind and a disservice to zoya's character and her past. (she, however, did seek out mal. Again not for any power-grabbing motives bc he doesn't have any power to offer anyways but bc he's pretty. thats it. its literally bc he's pretty.)
-the grisha triumvirate is specifically designed to represent the three orders to show that they are equal to each other and no longer enforcing grisha hierarchy. it didn't make sense for show!alina to say that her, genya, and zoya represent the grisha triumvirate bc her and zoya are both summoners. its supposed to be genya, zoya, and david.
-pekka stepped down after kaz threatened his son. he removed himself from the barrel. he had lost his reputation and credibility and now all he wants is to keep his family safe. he did not seek revenge against kaz. i did not like that pekka seemed to be regaining power again in hellgate and just waiting for the day to bring kaz down. he lost and that should have been the end of pekka's story
-adrik lost his arm and learned to summon without it and this should not have been glossed over by providing an easy solution with the metal arm. we saw none of the struggle or trauma of the war and its aftermath in its entirety
-alina loved her blue kefta!!!!!!! and nina loved her red kefta!!!!!! (and bonus,,, matthias loved nina and her being a grisha, hence his affectionate nickname "little red bird" for the red of her kefta)
important addition!!!
so we all know about “who the hell is jordie?” “someone i trusted. someone i couldn’t afford to lose”, right, but what we forget is the significance of kaz calling jesper ‘jordie’. it’s not just that jesper is a brother to him- jordie was kaz’s protector. jordie was the 13 year old that protected kaz and who kaz protected, the goofy one who made him smile and bought him hot chocolate at night. he felt safe around him. he trusted jordie with his life. in calling jesper ‘jordie’, kaz shows that subconsciously, he trusts jesper to protect him, that he could turn to him should he need it. and every time he yells at jesper, the gambler who couldn’t stay out of the red, for losing another bet, getting in debt again, all he can see is that same thirteen-year-old boy, swindled out of everything he owned and left for dead on the street. with every word he yells at jesper, he silently urges him to stay alive. with every bet jesper makes, all kaz can think is “i can’t lose a brother. not again.”
six of crows AU where everything is the same but the only upper body item of clothing kaz wears is a jumper that says “alive out of spite”. he refuses to wear anything else
for people who haven’t read the shadow and bone/ six of crows books, but have seen the show:
- inej ghafa is a survivor of childhood sex trafficking. she has ptsd and reacts in a panic attack at even walking past the menagerie

the parallels between alina asking mal, “you with me?” and him replying, “always” and katniss’ “stay with me” to peeta’s “always” in the hunger games. katniss and alina, two girls that have lost (in some way) both parents, had to fend for themselves, plucked from the masses and forced into something so much bigger than themselves at such a young age. still children and having altars erected to them, being the capitol’s idol, meanwhile fighting off a terrifying fascist and being expected to save the nation with nobody to save them. both of them not knowing the meaning and the finality that “always”, spoken so quietly and passingly, would one day come to have.
peeta and mal, two boys that would do anything for their girls, kids themselves but ultimately used by a dictator to manipulate the ones they love, to force katniss and alina into doing their bidding by way of threatening/ causing harm on these ones they hold dear. two boys who unlearn corrupt things taught to them. peeta, who refuses to let himself be a weapon. mal, who takes power in allowing himself to be a weapon wielded in alina’s hand. katniss and peeta. alina and mal. you with me? “always”
i’m so pissed cause all the actors did a great job and portrayed the characters well but the storyline was just garbage
my thoughts exactly!! like i literally don’t care about all the iconic kanej scenes or that kaz vs pekka confrontation because they were randomly thrown into the story with no sensible prior development
it just seemed like they just wanted to check all the iconic scenes from their list but didn’t actually care to make them make sense
don’t think about how “jordie rietveld” is most likely not jordie’s real name. how jordie is most likely a nickname. something given to him by baby kaz, a little toddler that couldn’t say his name properly. “jor-dee”, shaking his little fist at his big brother, even then his protector and idol. so it stuck, and big brother became jordie. jordie, who kaz referred to so affectionately, with a nickname. jordie, who died at age thirteen and would be forever thirteen because no matter how old kaz got, how many folk he killed, he couldn’t bring himself to let go of it. hey, what are you doing? i said don’t think about it
so they set up the end of season two of shadow and bone so that a six of crows spin-off show would go *perfectly* into the plot of the six of crows duology from that ending. coincidence? methinks not🧐🧐
