One of the most iconic songs in history, American Pie explores a young boy's feelings about music. It begins with Don Mclean as a paper boy delivering the news to all of the houses on his route that The Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly, three of the most influential artists of the time had died in a plane crash. Because of this song, February 3rd is forever remembered as the day the music died.
This track contains Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel singing the classic Christmas carol silent night and a simulated newscast of the 7 O'Clock news of actual events on August 3rd, 1966. The news bulletins contain news ranging from a dispute in the house of representatives, to Lenny Bruce's death on an overdose of narcotics, to the Grand Jury Indictment of serial killer Richard Speck who was tried for the murder of 8 (9 according to the song) nursing students. The news also contains bulletins on Anti-Vietnam War protests, Richard Nixon and Martin Luther King Jr.
