Hi! Like everyone else here I'm writing a novel! Except I'm writing three... except it's one giant novel in three parts... except there are probably four parts... they're Peisistratus, Telemachus, Penelope (and Odysseus if I can't help myself). I don't know what I'm doing.

When it was actually: 'What if he found another woman? A younger woman? What if he's dead? Should I just follow him then? But what if he isn't dead? That man is stubborn. He can't be dead. But what if he is? I'll kill myself if he is. Artemis, can you kill me, so I can join my husband —wait, what did you say? dead? The Tartarus do you mean he's dead? No he isn't fucking dead. But if he is — Lady Artemis? Please just strike me down right here? Maybe he's telling that other woman his wife is pure, too foolishly innocent, that I'm the fool who will wait and wait and wait — leave me alone Father, no he isn't dead! But I'm going to kill myself if —"

A lost-wax bronze sculpture of Apollo in the pose of an archer; one of the first large-scale bronzes to be excavated at Pompeii. Most of it was found in three large fragments in 1817 just north of the forum. The right foot, right hand and the left arm were found over 300 metres away in 1818. Markings on a pedestal in the colonnaded courtyard of the Temple of Apollo match the position of the statue's feet exactly, demonstrating that it had originally stood there, a pair to the bronze figure of Diana discovered in 1817.

The location of the statue at the time of its discovery may be explained by the fact that the temple was undergoing repairs at the time of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79, with the statue moved for safekeeping for the duration.

The statue was reconstructed in 1825, again in 1860, and conserved in 2009. The original is in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples, with a replica on site at Pompeii.

Never getting over Eumelus', son of Admetus - the guy who coasted through his whole life on the good grace of people who just couldn't stand to see him unhappy - one important action in the Iliad being participating in Pat's funeral chariot race, getting help from Apollo, getting absolutely DESTROYED by Athena as collateral damage when she helps Diomedes win, coming in last and then STILL getting a prize from Achilles just because he felt bad for him.

The puppydog eyes are clearly hereditary, the entire line of Admetus is a threat to godly and human integrety because people can just not be mean to them ever

The Mantikos Dedication is a 20 cm high late Geometric bronze sculpture dating from the early Archaic period (7th century BC), said to have been found at Thebes. Although the identification of the figure as Apollo is contested (arguments continue over whether the figure represents the divine recipient or the mortal donor), an inscription in archaic Boeotian characters on the thighs in dactylic hexameter reads:

ΜΑΝΤΙΚΛΟΣΜΑΝΕΘΕΚΕFΕΚΑΒΟΛΟΙΑΡΓΥΡΟΤΟΧΣΟΙΤΑΣΔΕΚΑΤΑΣΤΥΔΕΦΟΙΒΕΔΙΔΟΙΧΑΡΙFΕΤΤΑΝΑΜΜΟΙ

"Mantiklos offers me as a tithe to the Far Shooter, the silver-bowed god; do you, Phoibos, give some pleasing favor in return."

"Far shooter" and "silver-bowed" are noteworthy as two Homeric epithets of Apollo, both of which occur in the first 50 lines of the Iliad. The piece is a votive gift of a male figure, preserved from the knees up and nude except for what might be a belt around his waist (indicated by an incised band). Some object or objects would have been held in the outstretched left hand and in the now lost right arm: if Apollo, likely a bow and arrow.

Thinking. About how the cycle of violence is so engrained in the Odyssey because the Iliad never ends. The war is over but it haunts everyone and everything. It's not stated many times in the Odyssey but it's presence is so deeply felt. Odysseus can't escape it, the violence is part of him. The violence lives in him.
