Intellectual property laws used to mean something when it targeted the consumer.
Now the venture capitalist steals the IP to make derivative AI bullshit.
"An Empire Built on Waste" by artist Emanuele (Jane) Morelli
Not to be rhe ten millionth person to say āUSAmerican President Donald Trump Is An Incoherent Public Speaker Whose Train Of Thought Can Be Best Described As Scat Jazzā but I just remembered that when he talks at international events it is several dozen peopleās job to translate what heās saying and what he intends to say to world leaders in real time
And I desperately wish to hear how they do it
If anyone reading this isnāt fluent enough in English to understand the sentences that man says, please know that he has essentially mixed a number of adjectives and topics together in a hat and is pulling them out at random like a horrible childrenās game
Like that waxy jaundiced bitch will straight up be like āJ'Ć©tais sur internet l'autre jour ā internet, la plus grande invention amĆ©ricaine. And people will lose their minds
International translators have had this problem for A While - if they *don't* clean up what he says to sound coherent, they look like they're doing a bad job.
Explore Trump translation challenges, tips for interpreters, and 2025 strategies for accurate political translation and Trumpslation success
oh my god
There was a scandal in Poland because one translator decided to translate him accurately, tone, vocabulary level and word salad tangents and all. Polish conservatives who don't speak English and previously only heard smoothed out translations that sounded coherent and used big words were up in arms about how the translator was "inserting her political agenda", "mocking him", "exaggerating", "purposefully trying to make him look bad" and "incredibly unprofessional". I listened to the translation in question. It was literally just accurate.
5. Sensitive and Controversial Language Trumpās speeches occasionally contain misogynistic, sexist, or inflammatory language. Japanese interpreter Tsuruta, for example, faced challenges when translating sexualized remarks, ultimately opting for standard terminology to maintain professionalism. Similarly, Chinese translator Kumiko Torikai found certain lewd expressions ethically challenging, ultimately leading to her retirement. Navigating these situations requires skillful balancing of accuracy, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity, ensuring that the translation is appropriate without distorting the original intent.
I don't know why the authors of PoliLingua act as if Trump's verbal misogyny and racism wasn't very much part of his "original intent".
it only now dawns on me that millions of people on this planet think Trump is way smarter than he is because translators have neglected to relate his violent speech accurately out of misunderstood politeness. Make the ape sound like a ape
The cruelty of racist white men.
Does anyone else remember when Elon was like "if anyone knows how to end world hunger for 6 billion USD, I'll fund it" and UNICEF was like "we're going to spend a month to make a plan to end world hunger for 6 billion USD and Elon is going to fund it" and Elon was like "actually, nah" and then bought Twitter instead?
I think that was one of the worst things I'll ever see in my life.
I still think that should be the thing for which he's the most famous. It should be brought up every time he's mentioned. In any news article, any interview, any history book. "Elon Musk, who was offered a chance to end world hunger and turned it down." Put it on his fucking gravestone.

what really fucks me up about watching the truman show in 2025 is how it's not fictional. truman is fictional, but the truman show isn't.
there's thousands of truman shows. you find them on youtube, tiktok, instagram... family and mommy vloggers, sad beige moms and now the trend of neglectful moms showing the "reality" of parenting. all of them using their kids for entertainment. each child their own truman; living a life manufactured by their parents, a camera watching their every moment, broadcasted for the entire world to see.
tbh, i didn't even think about that when i made my post and holy shit you're so fucking right
The thing about Project Hail Mary and the way it uses puppets not CGI and built entire sets and built the Petrova line out of wire and lightsā¦
And also, now I come to think of it, Iron Lung building a real set and actually using gallons of fake blood
Is that it feels real. It feels solid. Actors are absolutely brilliant at acting at nothing there but when Grace hugged Rocky, there was so much emotion because Ryan Gosling was hugging something real, when Simon gets thrown around the ship it feel real because heās trying not to hit the wall.
Green screen acting is a skill but emotion comes when the actors can touch and feel and react to something real. They can reach out. They can hug and they can bruise.
Both movies featured one actor in a set with no other actors for large periods of time and yet they absolutely worked because everything around them was real. And I think thatās a lesson Hollywood needs to learn.
@imadoctornotanescalator PUPPETS?!
When itās green screen we can tell! We instinctively know the action on screen isnāt āreal.ā
Thatās why all the Mad Max movies go so hard, because theyāre almost entirely practical effects and we can tell all those guys are actually boinging around on those cars!
they just donāt make stores with tvs in the window all playing the same channel for you to stop and watch on the street when something horrifically terrible and/or amazingly awesome is happening anymore
iām building a database.
Before becoming a Hollywood star, Keanu Reeves worked for CBC and reported on a teddy bear convention in 1984.
look at this stock photo
there is so much energy in this image
Heās got his toast in the napkin holder :/

You're right and you should say it.
