TEC: The Echo Chronicles - Chapter Five: The Party

Well folks, this is it.

This chapter marks the end of "Volume 1" of TEC Book One.

In this chapter we will find out some motivations behind certain characters, see some fighting, and get quite a bit of humor and angst all rolled into a glorious wrap up for this first volume.

(Not to mention we get some some lovely plot teasers for "Volume 2" of Book One.)

Chapter01 Pg00 The Bombing - Now in Color!

We've recently started updating the archives with color pages!

This week, the first four pages of the comic have had color added to them. Expect 2-4 re-colored pages in the archive every Wednesday! Eventually we'll have the whole comic in color!

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS SHIRT?

Our booth, TEC: The Echo Chronicles on the 2nd floor near the rave had a box of promo items including a T-shirt on our chair, pushed in.  Some of you may remember it as the booth with the free glow in the dark bracelets left out for the ravers or the booth with the free comics and bookmarks that we gave out all weekend.

We gave out a lot of free things.  Only free things.  Things that we paid for out of our own pocket to give to you.

We brought a t-shirt, the t-shirt above, to give away in a social media contest.  There are only two of these shirts in the world, the one that I'M CURRENTLY WEARING (I'm a redheaded girl with an exhibitor badge, ha ha, please don't hit me) and the one that was stolen. It was stolen between 10:00PM and sometime this morning from the box under our booth.   

Other exhibitors had thefts as well.

If you have ANY information on who rifled through our booth or who stole the kendo demonstrator signs, please contact the convention safety and security department.

I'm not trying to recover the shirt.  I think that's a lost cause.  I just want to help security understand how this happened so it can be improved on next year.

Preparing character designs for chapter 3.  I like to work ahead on character development.  Most of the girls in TEC aren't very, uh, girly.  So it was kind of fun to get to do a design that is so. . . froo-froo.

Rose is a character that was very important in the original stories that we wrote for TEC, but has been put on the backburner a bit.  It's a shame.  She's fun to draw.  I have a bit of a sickness when it comes to ribbons and flowing hair.  Ha ha ha.  I blame growing up reading Sailor Moon.

So, first, hi.  This is going to be the blog specifically for TEC: The Echo Chronicles.

This drawing is of Yuki Shinrin from my comic, TEC.  I have been wracking my brain all day trying to come up with an ad campaign, and it struck me to do a propaganda poster.

I feel that writing strong female characters is incredibly important.  But I don't necessarily believe that means that they have to be able to kick serious butt.  I mean, really, women (and men too!) are strong in so many different ways.  We want characters that are fully realized, interesting, and I believe the most important aspect. . . flawed.

I don't want to spoil too much from my own comic, since we have hardly gotten to know Yuki yet. . . so I think I'll write a better essay another day.  I was just reflecting as I was drawing about how you don't have to be physically strong to have strength.  Yuki is a healer, a very powerful one at that.  She is not useless.  She is intelligent and has the guts to do what it takes to get any job done.  She knows when to be useful and when to step back.  She has flaws and isn't exactly someone that I would call a role model.  She's made mistakes and maybe doesn't always own up to them.  All in all, she's human.  Just like real people.

In media, women don't have to be a power fantasy for either gender.  We don't have to be saved by the men or be Amazonian warriors.  I'm honestly okay with both of those tropes in, you know, reasonable doses. . . but what makes a character a CHARACTER is their collection of actions and flaws.  The symbols of their humanity that we can all relate to, even if it isn't exactly what we aspire to be.
