Classic animators doing reference poses for their own drawings. Iâm in love with these images.

Iâm tired of getting these stupid offers to work on peopleâs âpassion projectsâ for free, usually with the promise of compensation when/if the project takes off. Guess what? I donât care that youâre passionate about it, I care if youâre competent. When you knock on my door asking for free work, its a clear sign that you arenât. You might have hopes that your project hits it big and that youâll eventually get rich off of it, but if you REALLY believed in it, I feel like youâd be more willing to put your own livelihood on the line instead of asking an artist to do it for you. If I do a bunch of free work hoping itâll pay off, Iâm not doing other work that could actually feed me and pay my bills. And what happens when the project doesnât get funded or some important factor blows up or everyone decides to quit out early? I get screwed. So, no. I donât want to work on your passion project. Not unless I get paid up front.
WONDERFUL ADVICE for artists. Please donât undervalue your art, your time and efforts are valuable and deserve fair compensation.

LIFE MOOD
If youâve ever tried to draw a perspective grid by hand, you know that it totally sucks butts. Hereâs a quick and easy way that I use that lets me establish the basic perspective of my drawing in less than 30 seconds. This is the first 3 pages of the tutorial, and the rest of it is available on my Patreon!
Do you have any tips for drawing round ladies? :D
Hiya anon!
Well, Iâm still learning myself, but hereâs a few tips I usually keep in mind!
1.) âFatâ is not just a big belly!
Fat distributes everywhere, but not necessarily equally! Like at any weight, every body is different and has an unique shape! Some keep a hourglass shape, some become more pear-like, some are shaped like teardrops or apples⌠but the basic thing is, fat doesnât just choose one place where it WONâT gather. It may not be as visible in some area compared to another, but in real life, itâs reeeeaaaaalllllyyyy rare to just find a person whose fat only stores in their bum, thighs and tits, leaving their waist, arms, neck and etc slim. Keep the body pleasant and thick all around, not just in the places where the weight-gain is the most imminent!
Keep the round shapes in mind!
2.) Rolls! Folds! What are they?
What are they? Not something to be afraid of, thatâs for sure!
Basically, donât hesitate to give your characters fat rolls. Skin folds, stretches and moves along with the body, and so does the fat under it! However, a lot of people who draw rolls tend to give the character many super small ones â this is not how rolls work! Usually, the thicker the person, the thicker the rolls â they increase in size, not necessarily in number.
Rolls are the most preminent in places where the body moves the most, AKA the joints. Fat folds over itself and creates creases and ârollsâ.
3.) HOWEVERâŚ.
(No references here, sorry!!!)
When we age, our skin loses its elasticity and it canât keep the rolls and folds thick and perky. In our youth, our weight can be held up way better than in our elderly days due to the stength and adaptivity of our skin which disappears as we age. Thus, fat tends to droop lower with older people, and the rolls appear thinner. This can also happen if someone who has had a LOT of weight packed up suddenly losing a big chunk of it â the skin canât adapt and will begin to âdroopâ down and lower. Make sure to keep such factors in mind when drawing and planning how the weight of your characters should be carried!
And then, a lil tip that;
4.) Study references and real life!
If you yourself pack some weight or have access to internet, libraries or just life on the street, you will see how bodies at different weights and shapes work and move. Use references, see for yourself â try to find how fat distributes and especially, HOW IT FOLDS! Folds and rolls seem to be one of the biggest problems many have while drawing thicker characters, and thatâs ok â weâre taught as a society that fatrolls are inherently bad and disgusting, therefore there are not many situations where weâd find ourselves just⌠staring and studying how the fat in our bodies works and moves. Youâll learn quickly, though!
Iâm still learning myself, but especially since every body is different and the weight we pack acts in unique ways, it can be really challenging to find the âabsoluteâ right way to draw thicker characters. Donât give up! Youâll get the hang of it eventually!!

art tips post
for all the artists following me
draw fast. itâll look messy for a long time but youâll improve faster than if you spend 4 hours on every drawing
if you draw in pencil and have a habit of erasing all of your mistakes, try drawing in pen or marker. i know itâs scary but itâll help in the long run (iâm speaking from experience)
try different methods and mediums but donât worry about mastering any of them, just have fun
if youâre not rich, buy art supplies from the dollar store, not the art store (seriously. i go through a sketchbook about once a month and iâd rather spend $4 on one than $15)
thereâs no wrong way to learn. you can copy other peopleâs art if you want to, just donât post it
DO NOT worry about having a consistent style. do not. just draw however you want
if you want to make original characters then do it. donât worry about if theyâre original, or a good design, or if they have an accompanying story. make sonic ocs. do it. itâs fun and itâs not hurting anyone
try not to kill your back. stand up and stretch once in a while
make a folder and save all of your favorite arts for inspirationÂ
draw from life. draw your dog. draw your teachers. draw your desk. draw your own hands (seriously thatâs the best way to get better at drawing hands)
in general, drawing from life or a photo is better than drawing from a diagram
draw whatever you want. draw youtubers if you like youtubers. draw undertale if you like undertale. when i was a kid i drew nothing but shadow the hedgehog and horses. everyone deserves to draw what they want without being mocked, and if people start making fun of you, block them and keep drawing
donât expect to get any notes at first. donât let it discourage you. if you want validation go show your art to your mom or your friends or your teacher or your grandma
take breaks, but donât give up.
This is how I draw hands. I simplify the shape and then later I will add the necessary details. It makes it easier to get them right. But the only way to learn how to draw hands is to just keep drawing them.
