Baltimore police use Tasers more frequently in poor, black neighborhoods.

Baltimore police officers exceeded widely accepted safety limits for Tasers more than any other force in Maryland, and in nearly all cases fired the weapon at suspects who were not complying with police orders but did not pose a threat. (x)

Stats showed that 98% of Baltimore police used tasers against people whom they consider harmless. Most often they use taser in poor areas and against black people. These people are busy surviving, therefore, there’re not many complaints of police abusing authority.  

Taser is considered to be a weapon as harmful as pepper spray, however, we should take into account the fact that last year 48 people died of electrocution. (x)  It is necessary to tighten and limit the use of teasers because now it’s a great way for the police to torture innocent black people who can not resist them.

okay so first of all #blacklivesmatter is the shit but as a scientist I’m required to say that every human being on the face of the earth produces the same amount of melanin, excluding albino people. Black people and other poc just have different types of melanin from white people. The form of melanin you have doesn’t only determin your skin color, but also eye and hair color. People with red hair or blazes (mutation patches of different color hair within their other hair) have mutated melanin genes. Albinism is also caused by mutated genes, but this causes a lack of melanin production which is why they are very white, blonde, nd have white/pale blue/red.

So when you say stuff like “praise people with melanin” it’s not blm, its all lives matter. And that is NOT the shit. so psa. Getchu science so you can get your anti-racism on.

Bisexuals Lack Support -- and It's Literally Killing Us

For the past 20 years I’ve seen “biphobia,” or prejudice and hatred against bisexuals, go unchecked by gays and lesbians in spaces where bisexuals should be welcomed as fellow queers. Instead, we are commonly greeted with stereotypes — told we’re “selfish,” “greedy,” “cheaters,” that we’re ‘in denial,’ and really straight or gay, that we “need both to be happy.”

I have to admit, not being apart of the LGBTQ+ scene made me completely oblivious to this issue of the treatment of those that identify as bisexual. Something that perplexes me is when a marginalized group advocates for their own rights - yet has the capacity to ignore/discriminate against other groups fighting for similar treatments/rights. I’m glad this article showed up on my feed, it opened my eyes to an issue I didn’t realize was there (mostly within the LGBTQ+ community, but none the less) 

In middle school I remember most people in my school (of about 100 kids) experimented with bisexuality throughout the 2 years, and by the time we graduated, many of them had discovered and explored their sexuality in healthy and encouraging ways. I loved my middle school, and I credit the open, loving, understanding environment to helping myself and my classmates feel comfortable experimenting with their sexuality. I wish this upon everyone. I hope one day that everyone has similarly positive experiences- and as a start I want to encourage anyone to message me if you want to talk, are looking for support, someone to vent to, someone to make you laugh (i will try), or just someone to listen, anything. I want people to know that @theemilygreen is a safe space to talk and learn.

PSA ABOUT NORTH CAROLINA

The “Bathroom Bill” was just passed and is starting officially April 1st (I wish it were a joke.) and this bill basically repeals any protection laws for LGBTQ+ members in North Carolina. It also limits the minimum wage, allows for discrimination based on gender, sex, etc., as well as prohibit transgender people from using the bathroom they identify with. (They must use the bathroom of the “biological sex on their birth certificate.“) Just thought you all should know about this because nobody is seeming to care or be as pissed off. I haven’t seen any plans for protest either.

Transgender Pride Flag Raised Over San Jose City Hall For First Time

On a seemingly ordinary Tuesday in San Jose, the light pink, blue and white stripes of the Transgender Pride flag was raised over the Santa Clara County government building at City Hall for the first time.

“It’s a hugely powerful statement. You know, the flag represents thousands of people who don’t necessarily have a voice every day of the week,” said South Bay business owner Aeajaie Sellers. “And to have that flying over a county building saying that we do have a voice and we do have a place is really a powerful statement.”

It’s the first time the flag has ever been raised by a county government, thanks in part to Santa Clara County Supervisor Ken Yeager, the county’s first openly gay elected official.

He said the flag is a sign to transgender community that the county will support them.
