as you can probably see from those designs I rally spent a lot of time working on my style itself and doing drawovers and studies to move it from my default to something that was more animation friendly and lowkey its done wonders for my art style.

exhibit a - one of those said drawovers. as you can see im very serious and professional in everything i do

you've seen Whitney, now here's Amber :) Flirtatious and punchable vampire. Shes like if everywhere i go by hollywood undead was sung by a lesbian. As you can see she only had 2 design passes because she's perfect <3

ok actually I think it's because I was able to figure her out easier on my own so she changed quite drastically between the two versions where as Whitney needed a little more help along the way.

i forgot I had these annotated versions whitney's isnt that interesting so I probably wont post it but amber's has some thing i think are fun to note: -the note thats like 'fingers are pointy but NOT pointed' on the initial draft and then i ended up pushing the stylization of the designs to make them easier to animate in a way that still affects my art style today and point is the fingers ended up looking exactly like what i said I wouldn't do -the fact I wrote 'you know what they say...' under the note to give amber small feet (a design choice that also didnt fit) and submitted this to a professor. + how fuck ugly the hat was. you can see why i did so much design exploration if this was my starting point

Journey of developing the character design for the film’s protagonist- Whitney! She’s one deeply sexually repressed vampire hunter :) first image is the design i used when storyboarding, then my first expression sheet tiedown for animation and then finally my redesign with mentorship notes.

And by mentorship notes im gonna namedrop bc it was fucking awesome i got to work with THE LAUREN FAUST which was so exciting omg. She gave me notes on a lot of aspects but I’d say Whitney’s design was one of the key things I worked on with her and I wouldnt have ended up with the result I had without her feedback.

Early on she identified a very core issue which was that, while my vampire’s design was clear and solid, Whitneys just felt generic, and she was absolutely right. It was painfully obvious whitney was an oc ive had for a while that i was putting in an AU outfit for the sake of this film and that she hadn’t been made with the film in mind. We spent a lot of time working on making the design more animation friendly, being more consistent with my shape language (i very often defaulted to pointy shapes that didn’t serve the character) and adding clear motifs that represented her uptight, stubborn, repressed personality. Our big ‘aha!’ Moment was when we were like ‘what if her hair is tied up tight at the start of the film and gets looser and looser as she starts to accept her desires?’ Tldr Lauren cooked.

The first thing i feel is important to share and establish is I decided to have one of my characters wear a cowboy hat, something I was very not good at drawing at the time and when starting approached it with a very 'eh ill figure it out over the summer before i start animating'. very early on in production this channel in my films discord server was born

what was weirdly beautiful about this was as the film progressed I vented to the channel less and less because i DID in fact get better at drawing the cowboy hat

and if you must know i have a photoshop document saved full of sketches purely dedicated towards teaching myself how to draw the hat. between story development in junior spring and animating in the fall i gave myself a to-do list of things to figure out over the summer and the hat was its own dedicated task

greetings tumblr! It is I @vyrewolf >:) Some of you already know this, but my senior year I made a pretty gay thesis film with some very beloved OCs of mine called The Fangs I'm After, and after a (pretty successful if i say so myself) festival run I'm finally gearing up to post the film publicly (When? not sure yet, but stay tuned)! In the meantime, I wanted to get around to posting all of the stuff I made while I was working on the film since I was too busy at the time to post it as I was doing it, and i thought it would be really fun to make a tumblr page to archive it all on! I hope you guys enjoy this little behind the scenes into the making of my capstone film >:)
