The Biggest Moments From The 2015 American Music Awards
J. Lo’s dance-tastic show opening Jennifer Lopez doesn’t have any new material out right now, so it only made sense for the host of the evening to put her feet to work by opening the show with a dance medley performance of all the huge nominations of the evening like Justin Bieber’s “Where Are Ü Now,” Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” and Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood.” There was also a “Waiting for Tonight” a capella intro, but, more importantly, La Lopez just showed folks how to really put on a performance.
Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor’s make-out sesh “Just like they say it in the song, until the dawn, let’s Marvin Gaye and get it on.” Meghan and Charlie did just that as they ended their performance of “Marvin Gaye” with a steamy make-out session … that may have lasted for longer than expected.
Demi, Selena and Ari, Oh my! Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande all brought their A game to the AMA stage to perform their latest singles, but Sunday night was particularly special for Ari. Not only did the pop darling not rock that signature ponytail of hers, but she also gave the crowd the debut televised performance of "Focus.”
Ariana Grande’s impression of her sweet Nonna Ariana Grande also took home the American Music Award for Favorite Female Artist (Pop/Rock), and her acceptance speech was full of sweetness. She had a touching moment with her adorable Nonna before taking the stage to give her speech, and at the end she even treated the audience to her impression of her grandmother, saying, “Ariana, I went on the computer, I voted. So, I think you’ll win.”
The Force was strong with Pentatonix Pentatonix may have released a new album this year, but at the AMAs, they performed one of the most EPIC Star Wars tribute you’ve ever heard, in support of the upcoming new movie. The group -- dressed in Star Wars inspired attire -- sang the famous theme song, with the help of a full orchestra!
Justin Bieber’s Purpose On Stage A little over a week after Justin Bieber released his new album Purpose, he made a comeback to the stage at the American Music Awards. Biebs performed a medley of songs off his latest record, starting off with an acoustic version of “What Do You Mean.” Then, he kicked it up a notch with full choreography to “Where Are U Now?” And for the big finale, he performed his latest single, “Sorry” … in the rain. IT WAS RAINING ON STAGE. Biebs is BACK.
