The new Odyssey adaptation has inevitably gotten people talking about a Muppet version of it, and they’re frequently suggesting Kermit as Odysseus, Miss Piggy as Penelope.
I’m sorry but that’s thinking way too small, hear me out:
We need to have Miss Piggy as Odysseus, and Kermit as Penelope.
Think about it… who’s the more fickle, prideful, warlike one in that relationship? Who is absolutely ready to go ham, at a moment’s notice?
It ain’t Kermit
I think you badly underestimate how quickly the Odyssey would go if you have Miss Piggy as Odysseus. You're not gonna get 10 years on Agamemnon's campaign against Troy because she'd have that city be raised to the ground on day 1 - and thats without the use of a wooden horse. Hell, i'm betting monsters and gods cower over her that she'd be back in Ithica by day 2.
Also, you need Odysseus to be reckless but also has the gumption to hatch hairbrained schemes to get out of a situation which fits Gonzo to a tee.
Me, having watched the odyssey and loved it, talking about it with my beloved and smart mutuals about the meaning and themes of this ancient epic and the masterful way Nolan was able to make this foundational western story feel modern in a way that still paid tribute: wow, I’m sure the people of tumblr dot com— the people who love Themes and Meanings and Messages and conversations around the social construct, of consequences, and of the intricacies of mankind— will understand
