ok its 4 am and im sleep deprived but also can we talk about pregnancy and childbirth in cinema and how it almost exclusively exists to showcase a woman's pain or punish her for daring to exist in that world in any significant capacity. We very rarely see how the exact moment of childbirth affects the plot (I can literally think of ONE exception being Violets birth in the Netflix adaptation of Bridgerton and how it demonstrates the risk involved and how its a MANS judgment, her eldest son no less, who decided her fate in that moment)

Every other example I can think of is merely there to punish a powerful woman for being in said position of power (a queen or noble lady who fulfills her societal imposed duty of bearing children for powerful men) or is a moment of tragedy to showcase how the childbirth affects other people, especially a male love interest. But we never really see the follow up, or how pregnancy can affect the body. A birthing person is also just. discarded afterwards. Either they die or they have significantly decreased screen time. Its a tired scene that mostly serves no purpose other than to showcase pain and how it affects everyone around the birthing person EXCEPT the actual person giving birth.

Even otherwise sound shows with solid character development and lore building like AtLA use this method to further along the narrative before discarding the characters shortly after. (Though LoK kinda fixes this with Pemma, where her pregnancy and childbirth has true consequences and she remains a character that continually shows up even after giving birth)
