Something I've been thinking...
Why do some people like "jerk characters"?
You know the type, bullies, selfish, antagonistic and those who have massive ego complex, or simply put: a-holes😅
Characters who you just want to hate, cuz they torment others by bullying them and saying mean sh1t to them and making them feel terrible.
Yet, these characters can have a loveable side to them, and when the story progresses futher, their true selfs are revealed to everyone, they are then accepted, but then some just stay as whole story as nothing more than a jerk and big mean bully.
Here two examples from diffrent shows:
•Jax from 'The Amazing Digital Circus", a character from an indie animated where him and other human characters in virtual bodies are stuck in circus-themed virtual reality ruled by an A.I.
Through out the whole show from the start, Jax is shown to be a big jerk who takes whole enjoyement from bullying both physically and mentally others simply cuz to him, nothing matters in the virtual world, and they can feel any pain, so he just acts like it's nothing big of a deal and it's just for fun. But when the show moves foward we start to see that nothing is fun and Jax is clearly hiding something behind that big grin on his bunny face.
•Bakugo from "My Hero Academia", a character who has the most rude personality and more angst than Jax, but he also is a jerk, he has an aggressive and massive ego who torments others, especially Midoriya during childhood and hero school days.
While he clearly isn't a bad guy, his personality gives a bully character type vibes, but he grows out from it and becomes a better character.
Both of these characters are "jerk characters", but they are loved by the fandoms they are from.
So I ask again, why some people, like these characters?
