Working on Good Vibes
My depression and anxiety work book says to make a list of 5 famous people you would like to be like and explain why as a fun and positive activity. I am partaking but instead of famous people I am doing characters in TV shows and movies because I am inept at pop culture.
1. Black Widow: The baddest of all badasses and she can also kick ass. When my knee is heeled I want to be able to fight like that(a very high goal).
2. Wonder Women: Also a badass female character who kicks butt. I love the female empowerment and her cultural naivety.
3. Rory Gilmore: Super smart and the portrays her going through some very real problems and she does it pretty well. I wish I could read as much as her. (Her mom is amazing too).
4. Leigh Anne Tuohy(Sandra Bullock): Such a compassionate women, I want to be compassionate and empathetic like her. Just wow. I saw the movie The Blind Side like 20 times(I wish that was an exaggeration).
5. CJ Cregg: An intellectual badass(yes I love describing people as badasses) and she is very strong and stands up for herself. Having a voice and being your own advocate is so important.
These are my five, I don’t have many followers but if people have others throw them on there it’s actually a really fun reflecting exercise.
my brother is teaching his cat how to high five by giving her a treat every time she successfully taps her hand to his hand, which is all well and good, but now she thinks that she is entitled to food every time she high fives someone. i can’t eat in the same room as her anymore because she’ll just bap my hand rapid fire and then go nyoom straight in for my pizza like no Kelly that’s illegal go finish ur own dinner
“No Kelly, that’s illegal.”
So, a while back, I was using clicker-training to teach my cat Taz tricks. She learned very quickly and it was a good experience all around, but we had to hide the clicker.
Taz had learned that the clicker meant she got treats. So she would find it, carry it up to people, step on it to make it click, and then SCREAM AT THEM to give her the treats she was clearly owed because the clicker had made a sound.
Pavlov is rolling over laughing in his grave.
Mishka, my cat, has learned that crying at 6 in the morning means i’ll pet her. I regret my past decisions but she’s only 6 months old so I’m in it for the long haul.
HERE’S THE THING THOUGH
I used to work for a call center and I was doing a political survey and I called this number that was randomly generated for me and the way our system worked was voice-activated so when the other person said hello you’d get connected to them, so I just launch right into my “Harvard University and NPR blah blah blah” thing and then there’s this long pause and I think the person’s hung up even though I didn’t hear a click
And then I hear “you shouldn’t be able to call this number.”
So I apologize and go into the preset spiel about because we aren’t selling anything, etc. etc. and the answer I get is
“No, I know that. What I mean is that it should be impossible for you to call this number, and I need to know how you got it.”
I explain that it’s randomly generated and I’m very sorry for bothering him, and go to hang up. And before I can click terminate, I hear:
“Ma’am, this is a matter of national security.”
I accidentally called the director of the FBI.
My job got investigated because a computer randomly spit out a number to the Pentagon.
This is my new favourite story.
When I was in college I got a job working for a company that manages major air-travel data. It was a temp gig working their out of date system while they moved over to a new one, since my knowing MS Dos apparently made me qualified.
There was no MS Dos involved. Instead, there was a proprietary type-based OS and an actually-uses-transistors refrigerator-sized computer with switches I had to trip at certain times during the night as I watched the data flow from six pm to six AM on Fridays and weekends. If things got stuck, I reset the server.
The company handled everything from low-end data (hotel and car reservations) to flight plans and tower information. I was weighed every time I came in to make sure it was me. Areas of the building had retina scanners on doors.
During training. they took us through all the procedures. Including the procedures for the red phone. There was, literally, a red phone on the shelf above my desk. “This is a holdover from the cold war.” They said. “It isn’t going to come up, but here’s the deal. In case of nuclear war or other nation-wide disaster, the phone will ring. Pick up the phone, state your name and station, and await instructions. Do whatever you are told.”
So my third night there, it’s around 2am and there’s a ringing sound.
I look up, slowly. The Red phone is ringing.
So I reach out, I pick up the phone. I give my name and station number. And I hear every station head in the building do the exact same. One after another, voices giving names and numbers. Then silence for the space of two breaths. Silence broken by…
“Uh… Is Shantavia there?”
It turns out that every toll free, 1-900 or priority number has a corresponding local number that it routs to at its actual destination. Some poor teenage girl was trying to dial a friend of hers, mixed up the numbers, and got the atomic attack alert line for a major air-travel corporation’s command center in the mid-west United States.
There’s another pause, and the guys over in the main data room are cracking up. The overnight site head is saying “I think you have the wrong number, ma’am.” and I’m standing there having faced the specter of nuclear annihilation before I was old enough to legally drink.
The red phone never rang again while I was there, so the people doing my training were only slightly wrong in their estimation of how often the doomsday phone would ring.
Every time I try to find this story, I end up having to search google with a variety of terms that I’m sure have gotten me flagged by some watchlist, so I’m reblogging it again where I swear I’ve reblogged it before.
This is how the whole Santa Tracker thing got started with NATO.
Also reminds me of a story.
A dude I once knew has a fancy job in computer security that has him travelling all over the world and one of my favorite stories is how this company (I was not allowed to know the name due to confidentiality clauses but I was assured it was one with strong ties to national security) had a problem where every day their servers would go down at the same time for 15 mins straight and no one could figure out why because everything checked out and it was literally supposed to be impossible for the servers to go down and so they hired him to come have a look at their servers and figure out if they were being hacked or what because according to security logs no one had been in there that shouldn’t be.
The security around the server room was ridiculous. Like, he couldn’t even go in the room without the head of security and one of the vice presidents of the company in there with him.
He had to pretty much force them to let him put a small camera, encrypted data streaming to his laptop, in the server room overnight and then he wasn’t allowed to leave with his laptop. So he goes in and reviews the footage the next day and at the exact time stamp he has for the footage going down he sees…. The cleaning person unplugging the servers so that they can plug in their vacuum. Fifteen minutes later the vacuuming is done and the servers are up and running again.

I can’t not reblog this. I tried… impossible.
“chuffed doesnt mean what you think it means”
it means exactly what i think it means its just some stupid word that literally has two definitions that mean the opposite thing
what the hell
This makes me really chuffed
This post is quite egregious
Well I’m nonplussed by this whole post.
goddamnit.
all of you go to hell
And you wonder why i am boggled at times
These are called contronyms! A word that is its own opposite.
Why the fuck do these exist
One theory is that the sarcastic use of the word became exceedingly prevalent and because another dictionary definition.
Are you telling me that we were such sarcastic shits it literally changed our language.

I like this guy a lot
When I was 16, I had a fake I.D. and decided to go to a gay bar by myself because some friends bailed on me. While there, an older gentleman bought me a drink. He wasn’t a creeper, and he definitely wasn’t unattractive. I accepted the drink and began talking to him. No big deal. As the hour progressed, I felt myself feeling strange. I mentioned that I felt like I had a headache, and this guy helped guide me out of the bar. As we were walking down the street, the thought of, ‘Oh god, he’s drugged me, I’m going to die’ came to my head. I tried to get away, but I was so drugged up that I could barely walk, let alone speak. It also didn’t help that I had really large ‘goth’ platform shoes because I was going through a phase. Anyway, this guy brought me to his suv and began undressing me. As a final act of defiance, I hit him over the head with my platform shoe. He then punched me, and I remember thinking, ‘Why don’t they ever give workshops to gay guys about being victims of rape too?’ While I was as careful as possible, I never saw the guy slip something in the drink. I even watched the bar tender make the drink. Anyway, I lied there completely paralyzed while this pervert was lubing up. I locked eyes with his for a moment, and that’s when it happened. A very large and angry drag queen opened the door of the vehicle and beat the shit out of my attempted rapist. She and her other drag friends helped dress and care for me while the police arrived. I was saved by a group of guardian drag queens. They were basically the modern day ‘angels from heaven.’
God bless drag queens.
I will always reblog this
Whenever drag queens are present, you best believe they will save the fuckin day.

After this post went viral, the original artist had to delete their tumblr because they were inundated with death threats.
There were people more offended by this comic than offended by the existence of racial disparities—to the point where they threatened this artist’s life.
What the actual fuck? White people REALLY hate hearing the truth. And for a White female to tell it, omg… I’m glad she acknowledged this. I’m glad that she posted this. I’m glad that this went viral. Educate yourself and see why White Privilege is destructive.

Tell Kenoshi School District to stop forcing transgender students to wear arm bands!
Ash Whitaker came out as transgender to his parents in the eighth grade and to “a few close friends” during to his freshman year. Then, at the start of his sophomore year he formally came out to “all of his teachers and peers.” The Whitakers say that the trouble began later that year.
Kenosha Unified School District instructed guidance counselors to have Ash Whitaker, a 16-year old transgender boy (who recently, after a petition was created, was allowed to run as prom king), and “any other transgender students at the school” wear “bright green wristbands” so that the school could “more easily monitor and enforce [their] restroom usage.”
But the most alarming allegations in the suit are claims that the school essentially created a surveillance program to control Ash’s bathroom use. Melissa, who taught at Tremper, claimed that school administrators sent an email to security guards in April 2016 “instructing them to notify administrators if they spotted any students who appear to be going into the ‘wrong’ restroom.”
The next month, Melissa claims, Ash’s guidance counselor introduced the troubling “bright green wristband practice” for transgender students. The Whitakers believe this policy was aimed directly at Ash but they were allegedly told that it would apply to “any other transgender students at the school” as well.
“Ash felt like his safety would be even more threatened if he had to wear this visible badge of his transgender status,”
Please sign this petition to tell them to stop!
This is disgusting. No two ways about it, this is literally how nazis identified groups they wanted to kill.
MAKE THIS GO VIRAL THIS IS NOT OKAY
The nazis used pink triangles to mark gay people, and now we’re using green wristbands to mark trans kids. This is disgusting.
This has 15k notes but only a little more than 2k people have signed it, reblogging doesn’t help nearly as much as signing it does, and it only takes a minute so if you truly want to play even a small part please sign it AND reblog it.
It literally took 30 seconds to sign the petition. Don’t just reblog. Take ownership.
30 seconds to sign. Do it.
