not to spoil the ending of a book from the 1860s but i was so surprised crime and punishment ended on such an optimistic note... i fully expected it to be notre-dame style where everyone ends up in the worst place possible. but no, everyone who has made it to the end is kind of thriving, love is real, and the old creep is dead. for such a realistic and bleak book im not surprised that many people hate the ending and think it ruins the book but i love it dearly. personally im a simple woman who is overwhelmed by emotions when i think of sofia so i wouldnt trade this ending where she's happy and valued for anything else :-)
“Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart. The really great men must, I think, have great sadness on earth.”

Honestly, every single Frankenstein character is a relatable character, I mean,
Henry, the true and honest friend that somehow got pulled into his childhood buddy’s bullshit.
The Monster, who decides humanity is evil following exactly one failed social interaction.
Alphonse Frankenstein, who is just trying his best to deal with his overly anxious emo son.
Elizabeth, who spends 90% of the story in advanced denial.
Robert Walton, the obsessive fanboy.
Ernest Frankenstein, the forgotten middle child who shows up for two scenes to be a sassy prick before peace-ing out when shit starts to hit the fan.
And, of course, Victor himself, who attends college for like three days, develops a massive ego, just screws the education system, makes a humongous mistake entirely of his own doing, falls into a coma of despair, eventually simply decides to actively ignore said mistakes or blame them on his 1 year old son, then spends the next 40 something years of his life lamenting the fact that he actively ignored them while backpacking across Europe probably listening to My Chemical Romance or something.
Truly Frankenstein is the novel of the new era.
dark academia but STEM
- pinning the most difficult equations you solved to your wall. Or just the ones you find beautiful
- lots of plants, their names written in the pots. Trying different ways to grow them.
- always having lab gloves in your bag or pockets.
- writing ideas for projects in messy notes, putting them between the pages of your notebooks and forgetting about it
- hands dirty with black ink because you’ve been writing for too long too fast
- massive books under your arms, laptop full of carefully tagged papers while the printed ones are a total mess
- insane eyes and absolute euphoria when you finally understand not only the concept, but where did it came from and how it applies on your daily life
- hair always in a bun or ponytails, short finger nails and none jewelry because ~lab rules~
- searching until late at night the exact equipment the scientists used long ago, what methods they used and imagining how would it be to be in their place.
- Feeling as comfortable in the lab as in the library.
- you hate Victor Frankenstein but legit understand why.
- sore eyes from microscope or screen light, aching backs, still not wanting to leave
- looking at people and thinking about how they truly are: organs, cells, molecules, atoms, protons, eletrons, quarks, leptons…. nothing as one would think, everything, all the same, too big, too little, all pieces from a big puzzle
- dreaming about the topic you were studying last day
- having an idea about a paper while talking to your friends. Remembering that is not your field and going crazy because SOMEONE needs to research it.
- you are crazy to read some fiction but there are too many papers waiting for you
- You should be used by now but sometimes still get distracted about how graphics changes according to compartments added.
- finishing a big problem and just staring at it, amazed by how it was unfolded and reorganized until you get to the final answer
- “we don’t know….yet”
- ethics committee?? How about just test it myself, uh?(that new receipt that later comes out a absolute disaster)
- suddenly knowing how to solve a problem in the middle of a lunch
- notebooks margins filled with equations or formulas vs pages almost blank, with just one note or two
- mental breakdowns after classes thay change your perspective completely
- knowing that the truth depends on how further you can see. We’re always getting closer. Never there.
- Looking at an art piece, wondering what kind of ink was used, how it was when it was made, how time has affected it

R-a-y b-a-n glasses anniversary, only this day!
“I’m speaking to you from my heart. Look, I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this, but fuck that. Today is about innocent people who were halfway through their process, we don’t know what George Floyd could have achieved, we don’t know what Sandra Bland could have achieved, but today we’re going to make sure that won’t be an alien thought to our young ones. Every black person in here remembered when another person reminded you that you were black. So none of you out there, all those protesters on the other side, protesting against what we want to do, protesting against what we want to try and achieve, burn you, this is so vital. I need you to understand how painful this shit is. I need you to understand how painful it is to be reminded every day that your race means nothing and that isn’t the case anymore, that was never the case anymore.” John Boyega at The Black Lives Matter protest in Hyde Park June 3rd 2020
Powerful words.

Do you know what people really want? Everyone, I mean. Everybody in the world is thinking: I wish there was just one other person I could really talk to, who could really understand me, who'd be kind to me. That's what people really want, if they're telling the truth.
— Doris Lessing
This really resonates with how I've been feeling these days you know? Especially with quarantine and everything that's been going on lately it's almost like theres an emptiness that's waiting to be filled or at the very least a yearning to be finally heard by someone who truly, wholeheartedly cares.
my quick tips for working / studying from home
- get dressed and style your hair as if you’re going to school/work - even use the same perfume/ cologne as you normally do (trick your mind into being motivated)
- plan things out - everything (plan out your week, day, meal, etc. you can make these as specific as you’d like. this will help you stay on top of your work as well as stay healthy, especially if you live alone.)
- make studying/ working the first thing you do each day - best if you can start in the morning (minimize the tendency to procrastinate)
- just start - don’t worry too much about perfecting or finishing anything yet (if you don’t start then there’s nothing for you to perfect or get done. and it will never get done)
- listen to old and simple (aka non-distracting) podcasts, Youtube videos, or café/ chattering white-noise, etc. simply leave them as background noise to create an illusion of being outside your room (bring the presence of people to you. my favorites lately have been slam poems from 2016, Mae Martin’s stages, and Awsten Knight’s crackhead podcasts)
- set timers, for both study sessions and breaks (so that you don’t overwork, burn out, or procrastinate. the Pomodoro technique works great here)
- take advantage of the comfort of your own home (light a candle, have crunchy snacks, play loud music, review notes out loud while pacing around, wrap yourself in a blanket burrito, study on your bed if you can focus there like me, etc. basically anything you can’t do in a classroom, office, or the library)
- if you miss your friends, call/ text/ facetime them, make a study group chat with them, etc. (that is what technology is for)
- choose recreational activities/ self-care for your breaks instead of going on social media (go on walks, make small art, play an instrument, stretch, take a nap, etc. I usually reach for my guitar, brainstorm writing ideas, or sketch very simple line art.)
- if you want to go on social media, do it during meal times - or the 15 minutes after your meals that you can’t work just yet (it also doesn’t make you feel like you’re wasting time)
- study in different rooms for a change of scenery (dining room, living room, the patio, etc. I have an armchair next to the window that I study in whenever I need some sunlight and don’t have to write anything down. however, if you need a designated place to focus on your work, you can also use these alternative spaces as designated “relax” or “creative” place for your breaks)
- use this as an opportunity to take care of yourself (get enough sleep, drink water, exercise, talk to your family, take your meds, be mindful of your mental health, etc.)
Feel free to add your tips. The current situation sure is unpleasant but it is unavoidable. All we can really do now is take care of ourselves, others, and try to make the best out of this.
Good luck to everyone and stay safe! My heart is with you all 💕
Quarantine advice
“There are a few things in life so beautiful they hurt: swimming in the ocean while it rains, reading alone in empty libraries, the sea of stars that appear when you’re miles away from the neon lights of the city, bars after 2am, walking in the wilderness, all the phases of the moon, the things we do not know about the universe, and you.”
— Beau Taplin
“Don’t be afraid of new beginnings. Don’t shy away from new people, new energy, new surroundings. Embrace new chances at happiness.”
— Billy Chapata
This is something I need to really remind myself again and again being an introvert*
“Knowing reality means constructing systems of transformations that correspond, more or less adequately, to reality.”
— Jean Piaget (via quotemadness)
“If everything is imperfect in this world, love is perfect in its imperfection.”
— Ingmar Bergman (via quotemadness)
"Distractions exist not to divert us from our goals but rather to remind us that life is composed of a multitude of possibilities and every moment should be cherished as a foreboding memory."
