I am back!

Since this Monday night I had this very spontaneous idea for a Halloween costume that’s inspired by 2 very cool series I like, I have had about 5 days to prepare and now that everything’s coming together I’ll post the concept art here first, hope I’ll nail my costume!

So a few posts ago I mentioned how for my fanfic AU Clark Kent is NOT known as “Superman” right? That’s majorly because he’s known as the “Nightwing”! Surprise! And because, Clark’s “superhero” career in The Bat and the Kryptonian is initiated and then entirely founded by Bruce Wayne! Bruce even picked his Nightwing-hairstyle (HUGE changes ikr)

Yes, Clark has a Brightburn-ish background; no, he’s actually NOT evil

You must be wondering where’s Dick Grayson now. That will be explained in the future......

Squeezing in some backstory elements:

BE-1 —this AU’s Bruce already knew why his parents were murdered and who called the shots not long after a masked “joker” gunned them down (drawing a bit of inspiration from the Joker movie), someone who had a plan in mind for Bruce (that’s not exactly in Bruce’s best interests) informed him upfront. Although later in life Bruce succeeds big times and is worth almost 20 billion dollars (this will become an unfortunate running joke...), all those years he knew deep in his heart that he, along with his parents, are all being used as pawns in a high-stake game; he knows he can be taken out literally at ANYTIME if he’s just a little uncareful

BE-2 —Clark’s (Kal-El’s) Kryptonian background is even more intriguing. Brightburn AU, a.k.a. the AU where Kryptonians are evil invaders feared by all civilizations (hence one of the many reasons why Diana wants to kill Clark asap). Planet Krypton “imploded” out of nowhere. Kal-El was at the time one of many genetic experiments created on Krypton, after the “implosion” he was the ONLY life within the “implosion’s” range that survived, no Kryptonian could explain how and why. Lead scientist Jor-El decided to send Kal-El as a wildcard to the planet Earth—an interesting planet he studied and was fascinated with. Kal-El is quite an abnormal case, for one the substance supply needed to quick-grow a Kryptonian embryo into a full adult before reaching the target planet (so they can then immediately start the invasion upon arrival) did NOT work properly for him, he only grew into a cute little baby. Martha and Jonathan Kent, whom recently suffered a devastating miscarriage, decided against reporting the alien spacecraft and took him in as their own.

BE-⭐️ —SUMMER CAMP!

Kal-El (12 at that time), renamed Clark Joseph Kent upon adoption met this new kid at camp named “Michael Murphy”. The two almost immediately struck up a tight friendship, they were inseparable. Before parting ways when camp ended “Michael” finally decided to reveal his real name to his trusted friend Clark, but only got to finish saying “my name is Bruce...” before he was interrupted then picked up. So, Bruce Wayne (8 at the time) who’d just lost everything and was in hiding met Clark at summer camp! So, Clark while trying to reach his new friend afterwards ended up mistakenly sending letters to a 50-something-year-old dude named Bruce Murphy and got all his letters returned to him, how nice

Going back to this sketch I made

as a general reference for myself: let’s follow the thought process of Bruce designing and crafting both his own and Clark’s costumes.

First and foremost, although Bruce is an insanely rich billionaire, in reality he can NOT simply spend as much money as he’d please here (there are good reasons, to be looked at in the future). In other words, he really needs to think about the cost and effectiveness of things and consider what is really needed and what is unnecessary for each occasion. Leads to an incident where Alfred noticed Bruce cutting budget from his own gear to improve Clark’s, needless to say Alfred’s not pleased

What is notable for the Batman costume, let’s see... it’s a uniform dark color, with only the Bat-logo having a dull gold outline and the utility belt having a very light gold tint. All parts of the costume are pretty unreflective in order to camouflage it with the dark of night. The mask provides vision and hearing enhancements, the eye portion’s appearance is close to Spider-Man’s mask’s design (follows facial expressions, no constant frown). The Batman of this AU still can’t really fly, his cape helps him glide tho. The base suit serves as a power boost (in this AU it has something similar to Black Panther’s suit’s energy conversion function, which boosts punches, kicks and stuff) and as a protection against a wide range of outside impacts (strikes, fall, cuts, gunfire, etc.). The utility belt is used for storing gadgets and tools and holding the top and bottom pieces of his costume together. The base suit is comfy and makes sure the wearer is not too warm or cold, so he doesn’t need to wear anything except for regular sport boxers underneath

Moving on to the Nightwing costume. This costume is like the Batman’s polar opposite in many ways. Opposite from how the Batman’s mask covers the upper half of his face, Clark’s mask covers the lower half of his face and provides no visual or hearing enhancements (because Clark does NOT need those). As an added disguise, Clark’s natural eye color, which in this AU is dark grey, becomes very blue under the disguise of his mask—it even gives his naturally dark brown hair a blueish tint. The cape is lightly iridescent under sunlight and splits into two parts vaguely resembling two wings, Clark definitely stands out wearing it. The base suit is very aerodynamic and centers in on the purpose of not splitting open when Clark throws his powerful punches and kicks, so connecting parts (lighter-colored) are stronger and more elastic. One very important thing Bruce found out is that Clark needs protection against Kryptonite, believe it or not, when making his costume Bruce actually gave it Kryptonite-proof properties, which help Clark tremendously later on (trust level over 9000). Lastly, despite having holsters/pockets on his belt Clark doesn’t bring gadgets from home (not even his phone, Bruce maintains Ghost in the Shell-esque communication with him at all times)

I wondered on my 3rd playthrough, hey, can I spice up Laura’s drawing in day 7’s dream a bit more somehow (because your coloring determines that drawing)? And as a result of that idea I drew way too much out of the lines and my first attempt failed haha 😂

But my second attempt made it tho 👍

I keep calling this Brightburn AU because this alternative story literally spawned when I thought, hmm... what if Clark had a similar background as Brightburn? But the Brightburn-ish background is not the only major thing that’s different in this AU, and definitely not the most important: look how “Wonder Woman” has a different battle suit/armor (in fact here she is not even referred to as “Wonder Woman” at all, for reasons, hey, neither is Clark titled “Superman”, for reasons)

A girl made of lead

I took some time out of my day to draw this quick OC portrait and expand on:

And here’s a quick summary👇

Similarities between these lead gals and gold watchers:

They are both statues/humanoids made of a type of metal (well kinda obvious), whom are located in fancy mansions/palaces

In terms of how they hunt down people looking for soul shards, they both display the ability of telepathy (so they do know where we are at all times)

Now moving on to what’s different between them:

While gold watchers have hollow eyes and a big smile, the lead gals have shiny glass eyes and keep a neutral face all the time (I’ve been thinking, how exactly do you tell if you’d flattered/offended gold watchers or a lead gal in conversation? Gold watchers will always laugh and lead gals will hold their neutral expression throughout the passage of time... hmm complicated)

These lead gals do not carry any weapons with them, but do not underestimate them because of that fact! They are surprisingly strong and are more than capable of ripping you into pieces with their bare hands (overpowering them during an encounter is literally impossible)

Gold watchers stand still whenever you look at them then aggressively chase you down and attacks when your back is turned, but the lead gals does quite the opposite. First off, they know where you are but will never voluntarily go towards you, nor will they try to avoid you; secondly, you’re dead if you ever have a glimpse of their faces (do NOT make eye contact, don’t worry making eye contact with a portrait of them is completely safe hhhhh), keep you head down whenever you’re around them just to be safe, don’t physically bump into them either, they don’t like that and will probably kill you to show it

What’s difficult about keeping your eyes away from their faces is that unlike gold watchers, whom only laughs maniacally (probably too busy attacking to bother to talk to you), the lead gals will communicate with you in whatever language you speak fluently. They will try to trick you/seduce you/convince you/provoke you into looking into their eyes, and on top of that the lay out of their lair/dwellings is also designed for the specific purpose of making you so curious that you just cannot resist sneaking a peek at their faces

When does their telepathy come into play? Whenever you encounter one of these lead gals, her friends will all start to approach your location and crowd you in to watch how you’ll be eventually driven to look at them then die in their hands, like they’re watching and participating in some game show. Well, if you have a will of steel and just won’t fall for their tricks/manipulation, good for you, but you’re not entirely safe either. The thing is, inhaling lead will slowly poison you, if you do end up being crowded in and cannot leave without pushing past them (they’ll murder you if you touch them remember?), you’re then really as good as dead.

Extras:

As most of the time spent around the lead gals involves staring at the floor to avoid looking at them, traps situated above one’s head will prove to be very efficient. Pendulum traps, which exists in the gold watchers’s mansion exists here too, and on top of that, the floor spikes/traps are replaced with molten gold which will be dumped onto whoever-is-standing--there-at-the-wrong-time’s head.

You know, the lead gals were not always intended to be made of lead—I initially planned for them to be made out of rare/expensive materials: ivory, crystal/diamond, or silver, to match their male counterparts, the gold watchers. What changed/set my mind was the design of their appearances (a series of beauty expectations, with most of which ladies almost died to fulfill):

Big hair

Big, dreamy eyes (ladies in the past used to drip some nightshade sap or something into their eyes for the look)

Lead makeup (for the skin to shine, to look as pale as possible)

Stretched out/unnaturally long necks

Tightly constrained waists

Foot binding (from painful to life-threatening)

Well, my answer to you took quite long because of this:

It’s very convenient that you’d mention the gold watchers, because for the longest time I’ve been thinking about how conterparts of/genderbent “gold watchers” would look like, and here’s the answer

I‘d say imagining them as just female gold statues is not too interesting, so instead I present my lead gals 👍 now probably a representation of lust instead of greed (idk probably stealing the mannequins’ job). These gals are composed of a series of lethal beauty trends throughout history (them being made of lead, a component of some poisonous make up women in the past would unknowingly put on their faces is already a giveaway). I would go into more details but I am already way past my beadtime now ha ha...

I’d explain more like how they get/fight people searching for soul shards soon (they don’t carry weapons huh...)

The Inkwell Paradox

After (over)analyzing the Cuphead storyline with 3 different approaches last month, I’ll now move on to the Jiaqiverse Cuphead fancanon\fanfic:

A space-time odyssey, falsidical paradoxes, magic vs. science; all these raising thoughts to scenarios similar to Neo knocking over the flower vase after the Oracle pointed it out and further. Gee, talk about a way too serious approach with fanfic!

I have made some posts in the form of Devil’s diary transcript already on the-textbased-jiaqiverse, and a lot more is planned to come in a non-chronological, kinda messy fashion, I feel like I want to highlight some parts I really enjoyed imagining/writing.

Like the Devil x KD dynamic:

Did you know Devil was “banished”, “casted down” to this universe, landing on a part its residents would call “Inkwell” after he got into major trouble with the Court? (It was to the extend that the Court would like him to be annihilated, to be expanded on someday in the future)

Did you know at KD and Devil’s first meeting, in a blink of the eye, time “skipped” about 6 hours from Devil’s perspective? And in that blink of the eye, Devil felt his life was going to be in danger, and that event would be somehow linked to KD (a stranger he’d just met at this point), but couldn’t specifically pinpoint how? Needless to say he freaked out

Did you know shortly after being acquainted with KD, Devil learnt a song written specifically to mock KD? A literal diss track he finds catchy and shared/sang straight to KD’s face, meanwhile gradually realizing “the six-faced freak” was probably supposed to be KD (the “photosynthesis” song)!

KD did remind Devil of what he’s done wrong in the past and Devil wanted to leave Inkwell and fix things. At that point Devil was tricked into gathering money for someone promising to build/commission something to get him home, he unknowingly hurt KD in that process which he greatly regretted

There were 2 to 3 years KD spent as a pretty influential regent of Sugarland (alternative reality/AU) for Princess Erony Taffy (a relative of Baroness von Bon Bon’s). Devil joked that if KD was an actual king, addressing him formally would get interesting (King King Dice, something like that)

Devil’s trident is a gadget made by KD for him to in a way regain his magic, and within their time in this AU Devil learned to shapeshift on command, KD paired the trident with his mind and shapeshifting abilities so from then on it shapeshifted alone with Devil and can turn into any weapon Devil wanted

After Erony literally backstabbed KD, Devil started weeping holding KD, weeping like he’d never wept before, believing he had lost him

Did you know after that KD and Devil journeyed to yet another AU and became celebrities? Here they became professional musicians by accident (just like how this idea hit me by accident, becoming singers was not their main goal being there)

Did you know they started a romantic relationship before they went viral, but this remained secret at that moment as them being gay was met with quite some resistance here? (in this AU the strongest resistance they’d meet) Their relationship lasted despite this tho

Did you know after a thankfully peaceful retirement from their musical career they ended up chasing a major lead to another new, very magical AU? Where they had to destroy a foreign gem in Cala Maria’s possession and where they bumped into Dr. Kahl, who promptly fled upon seeing them?

People of this AU were generally pretty open-minded and they were free to just openly flirt and more

After going after Dr. Kahl and his alliance of scientists from “infinite Inkwell”—short for a gathering of scientists from a seemingly “infinite” amount of Inkwell AUs—Devil almost died trying to protect KD (that’s why Devil foresaw the danger to his life was linked to KD at their first meeting)

Did you know Devil told KD “there’s a beautiful sparkle in your eyes”(yeah Devil is THAT cheesy sometimes) when he was dying and KD was desperately keeping him alive?

Dr. Kahl was time traveling all this time, lastly landing back at the AU where Devil and KD were celebs, where the KD from that moment of time confronted him and ended his idea of “ripping a hole through space-time to explore the unknown”, which would ultimately just destroy the entirety of this Inkwell “multiverse” along with everyone there if carried out!

KD nurtured Devil back to health

John and James, advanced AI’s constructed by KD reacted to witnessing an affectionate kiss shared between KD and Devil by saying “well, this is no surprise, we saw that coming long ago”

Devil initially wanted to leave this universe badly, but as he hung out with KD, he gradually put down his troubles and started to want to stay here with KD, until it was revealed that KD is not from this universe either and staying here would not be the best option, he knew he needed to leave with KD, eventually

Did you know after all this jazz they went back to the reality they started with and lived in a cave for a while, plotting to leave this universe (yeah that cave was the location of the later Inkwell Hell)?

I mentioned somewhere in an ask-and-answer that Devil was KD’s first right (you know what I meant)? Although the prospect was extremely inviting, Devil initially couldn’t bring himself to just do the do with KD (this and a lot else had to do with Devil’s background), then immediately asked KD to marry him when they finally did get to it.

Here’s a pretty wild fancanon: After careful planning, KD and Devil essentially faked their defeat (c’mon remember the “who would win” meme?) and left Inkwell with the cupbros as heroes to the Inkwell residents. They went on to a specific time and place of a Section (a “standard” type of cluster of multiverses) KD prepared for them

Did I mention that some girls—e.g. Erony, AU Sally Stageplay and of course, creepy Pirouletta—had major crushes on KD?

Besides all that there’s so much more than the story of Devil and KD here: John and James, Cuphead and Mugman’s journey and more and more (this fanfic is called “The Inkwell Paradox” not “the snake-eyes paradox” so...)

I made thejiaqiverse-planniverse to save time, to plan ahead of more serious, complicated postings. Why exactly?

What I post on my blog and will post later on for your entertainment are all parts of one huge story as I mentioned before (unfortunately not very popular atm.), and this story does have a title:

Divine Tragedy

Now listen to that title... I know, I must say this fiction I’ve been working on since I was a lot younger is in fact pretty crazy and ambitious. What is it about you ask? It is about how Existence (gave a rough explanation of what this term means here in one of my videos on this blog) in a whole came to be, which includes (multiverse)universe genesis, about what or who’s running everything, a general idea(?) of how they get on with stuff, and the relationship between different Sections of reality (or “Fables” or Cells, back track to earlier posts if you’re interested), etc.; further, whether all that are constructed here will remain true. All of that disguised behind minor jokes and seemingly trivial little story parts like the ones already posted on my blogs.

(I worry a lot of this stuff on that scale could be nonsensical/controversial, so keep in mind I absolutely do NOT push for any of this to be really taken to heart, even when I tear down or throw out the fourth wall once and for all in the future—remember, in the end it’s just fiction after all)

The project in progress I talked about is something I should’ve done a long time ago for my own good: calculating how much time it would take for me to draw different characters in different art styles, for time management purposes
