“You don’t think it changes anything?” Ava turns, and Beatrice hates the way her mind drifts, wondering what color Ava’s eyes might be, somehow warm even in their unique shade of grey. “I think the world around us now is the same one as after, it’s always been full of life, color is such a small piece of that. It seems silly to spend your entire life waiting to live, when there’s no guarantee that what you’re waiting for will ever come.” Ava pauses, gesturing to a small pool of water just ahead of them. The rocks form a barrier, and from here Beatrice can see the small movements. Tiny lifeforms swirl around their miniature ecosystem, seemingly oblivious to the inevitable rising tides, rushing to reclaim them. “Sometimes, I think it’s a detriment that color holds so much importance. It makes it easy for the small wonders around us to slip by unseen.”
