Twilight could have been worse, actually. And it should have been
rip to the entire Cullen family when Bella moved in and it was just 24/7 uncomfortable pda
Also. I don’t mean like kissing or anything I mean:
Edward: Bella you are my EVERYTHING my stars my moon my entire life belongs to you, my beautiful and gentle flower
Emmett sitting directly next to them on the couch:
Alice wanting Bella’s attention and doing cartwheels but getting ignored:
Twilight, again. Another ending. No matter how perfect the day is, it always has to end.

I cannot stress enough that this meme is entirely literal. there's no reference or subtext you don't know. these are simply the objectively most popular works of art from each denomination.

Just started my Eclipse re-read—I forgot how annoying the main cast are in this book lol but since I'm only a few chapters in most of my annoyance insofar is towards Bella and Edward 😀—and I just noticed these...parallels? foreshadowing? I've even annotated those parts because they stood out to me.
Bella and Jacob talking about Quil, who was revealed to have already phased and is enjoying it, and Bella being surprised because she got the impression it was a "bad" thing because the wolfpack were all worried/dreading it prior. (Wow, a group of supernaturals being worried about the one human who'll share their fate soon, only for said human to have the time of their life once they join their ranks? Where have I seen that before? //stares at a certain future book)
Jacob's line after Bella's tantrum about "being the only one who has to grow old" (Bella...your family and classmates are all human and can age??): "...or did you want to scream at me some more for things that are out of my control?" (If the next book is of any indication...that won't be the last time, Jacob.)
Jacob talking about Sam's horror and self-loathing after having scarred Emily, yet Emily ended up being the sympathetic one, comforting him despite everything. (...So, like Bella and Edward in the aftermath of New Moon. Left her (emotionally) scarred, shattered even, but Jacob shouldn't dare bring up the state Edward left her as because Bella can't bear to see him suffer through the guilt of his own actions! "Nothing to forgive" and all that!)
I'm not sure if they were all intentional on Stephenie's part (other than Mike and the boys wagering on Edward vs Jacob and the magnets) but the first two feel like some kind of foreshadowing since I have the hindsight of having read the entire series years ago.
Also...since I am still recent in the book, do you know where in the timeline The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is, page/chapter-wise? I also have the novella and I'm planning to read it in tandem to align with Eclipse's plot. Thanks in advance! 🙏
Oh that Quil/Bella parallel is interesting; I never thought about it that way before but it could very well be foreshadowing for Bella. Of course there's still the difference of Bella wanting/choosing it and Quil having no choice in the matter, but interesting nonetheless.
[Also Bella stomping her food about being the only one to have to get old is one of those things that always makes me laugh and roll my eyes. Girl. GIRL. Literally billions of people have to get old and die, you just happen to know a handful of immortals. EVEYONE ELSE is aging!]
The other two parallels are interesting, too. She does get upset about things outside Jacob's control (imprinting definitionally is not his fault, not something he chose) and the Sam/Emily stuff does have a similar vibe with the person who was hurt not wanting the person who hurt her to feel bad (one physically--however accidentally--and one emotionally). It continues a pattern of women suffering and forgiving to spare men pain. It happens again when the morphine wears off in BD and Bella still keeps still and quiet so her screams don't torture Edward but because she's not moving and screaming Edward's worried the transformation's not working!
As for when to read Bree, it's hard because Bree doesn't have a chapter breakdown. Someone on reddit suggested reading the first 17 chapters of Eclipse, then the first half (up to about page 83) of Bree, then Eclipse up until chapter 25, then finish Bree but I haven't looked into it personally.
Maybe @threebooksoneplot has some advice?
We sure do have some advice! So I (@volturialice) actually put wayyyyy too much thought into a) dividing Bree Tanner into "chapters" (which I ended up calling "beats" to distinguish them from actual chapters) and b) matching up those chapters/beats with Eclipse, mooooostly based on timeline but occasionally based more on theme/parallels (like fragarianmusings described above!) eg reading the first Bree beat concurrent with the Eclipse chapter where Jasper explains newborn armies. Here's the reading schedule we ended up using in episodes 59-60, 62-64, and 68-71 of the podcast:
and here's a more detailed breakdown of exactly where to start/stop reading in Bree Tanner, plus my incredibly convoluted timeline notes and how I came up with this reading order (yes I made this in Canva for some reason, I cannot for the life of me recall why)
disclaimer: the rest of these notes contain spoilers for these books from 2007 and 2010, you've been warned
Anyway. I ended up putting, as usual, wayyyyy too much thought into how to divide and match up Bree Tanner with Eclipse. This should theoretically also be reflected in this blog's chronological queue/posting history if you check oour SSLBT tag (which I'm very proud of, I really went digging for every last piece of canon-flavored Bree content I could find. Seriously, if anyone finds a Bree post that hasn't made it into that tag, please @ me immediately so I can reblog it) and also the tags for the podcast episodes listed above
