Good Bye the Log(essai)!
Hello Everyone! I have moved to a new place and find me here now :)
http://www.defarjenary.com/
San Diego, January 2017.
Hi everyone,
I’ve been away from the blog-sphere for a long while I know but I am hoping (making a goal) for the new year to share more of my thoughts, experiences, and (life)style tips :)
To say the least, I’ve traveled to a few places last year (Rome, Florence, Pisa, Verona, Venice, San Bonifacio, San Gimignano, Viareggio, Borghetto, (seems like there is a slight obsession with Italy :p), Paris, Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Mont St Michel, Copenhagen, London, Cabo, Valencia, Alicante, San Francisco twice and West Coast road tripping through beautiful Del Sur and Sonoma Valley, Toulouse, Collioure, Barcelona, The Hague, Orleans and Loiret, Den Bosch, Milan, Cologne) and made many friends and many memories of great times between laughter and tears. This year on the same end year trip, I went to Prague on a road trip and Baden Baden, which I cannot wait to share my shocking and profound experience with you all.
I fell in love with a cute and dorky dutch guy. We had our ups and downs but I am hopeful for the better. I’ve also loved and lost my dear little sister in July. I know she lives on in my heart forever. I have pursued my dream career as a controls engineer and have acquired a new position last august. I took night classes to learn Italian last summer. I am still pursuing my masters in engineering but also continued taking entrepreneurship courses. I’ve networked quite a bit as well. I kept up with my self development goals. Among many training and seminars, I’ve taken communication courses, and learned how to deal with difficult people. I also took an industrial course in Eindhoven (The Netherlands) on Metrology calibration of mechatronics systems last november. Always keep on learning something new ;) Among many things, I learned to always keep things light and playful while working hard on my goals and keep loving people that matter to me. Life must be a fun journey after all!
Style-wise, hmmm… huh I think this blog was originally intended to be a sort of style focus but not so much any longer. I am honestly running out of new or fun inputs (even perspectives) to the style blog-sphere world. Being utterly busy with working, studying, travelling, working on new goals, etc. it really left me little time and energy or desire to think or write about this topic. Evidently, I feel a sense of contentment after building for about 5 years now a so called minimalist ‘dream’ wardrobe or french or capsule, or whatever cool words fancy you to describe the basic bare minimum closet a modern stylish woman ought to own. Instead, I have grown to focus on developing a sense of ‘me’. More to develop on this subject, then fine. In that case, I will write a few words on style topic at a later time ;)
Wising you all a happy new year (it’s still January so it’s ok to make this wish) and looking forward to drop by more often.

Hello! I really love your sense of style and I would really like if you had a blog with outfit posts and advice on places. Which are the blog that you prefer read usually? (not tumblr) what kind of post a good blog should have in your opinion? Outfit post with lot of picture or just everyday life picture? xxx
Hi there! Thanks for your message :)
I’m so glad you are asking! I was in the progress of posting travel hot spots sharing, some outfits, and other personal development (women career, school) tips in this blog. But for now, it’s possible to find cool things from my travels in my instagram @sovannary_f.
I am recently reading Sartreuse. I like the person very much and what she does with her blog. You bring up a good question.. I have preferences for blogs and instagrams of people who ‘really’ live their lives fully and who don’t take clothing or material things way too seriously by show casing their looks all the time or their belongings. I love meeting bloggers that have passions, who are very intelligent and are beautiful inside and out with awesome personalities and great stories to share. For me, it’s a great pleasure to meet with people like that. I dislike people of 1 dimension who lack of interesting things to discuss and/or lacking of opinions :/ Any who let’s stop there but I think you get the point :)
Home, July 2016.
Summer packing has never been easier since I have been building my wardrobe for more than 3 years now to include reliable timeless basics that sustain different seasons and social life needs. To update my summer uniform, I added a couple of new accessories (the easiest and most fun way for refreshing a wardrobe) like a straw hat, colorful bracelets, and espadrilles. Besides, everything must fit into a carry on because I am a hand luggage only traveler for fuss free vacation. Above items were packed for 3 weeks in Europe :)
Amsterdam, July 2016.
I have been encouraged by two wonderful and adorably chic ladies @theotherway (Kimberley) and @sartreuse (Nicky) to go on and pick things up with blogging again. To be honest, I have been rather reluctant (and quite busy) to post as I have become more and more self-conscious about my purpose in doing this. I was somewhat too afraid that my inputs are meaningless into an already very busy blogsphere on life & style.
But hey, here we are. The original purpose for me to write and post was to share my journal in a very personal and hopefully most authentic way as possible. I sort of have forgotten all about it. Can I be blamed for it? I can’t help but compare with how so many other blogs out there are way better than mine but I now have the courage to still want to pursue this and hope that you’ll enjoy it :)
To start, I’d like to drop a few lines on my current trip to Europe. I landed in Paris last sunday but took the TGV to Brussels and attended the Rock Werchter 2016 just for the last day of the festival. What a fun night and how I really enjoyed Florence and the Machine. To see her sing and dance live was simply amazing! We drove to sleep in Amsterdam then the following day met with Nicky and her boyfriend Benjamin. It was a great pleasure to meet both of them as they are such an amazing couple and awesome individuals. We had great conversations, drinks, and laughter on this beautiful terrace at Cafe Thijssen. Life is simply great this way.
I love walking by these streets like Haarlemmerdijk where there are a myriad of tiny boutiques and eateries. We were recommended by this Dutch-French couple (coincidentally like mine too) to have a bite at de Pizzabakkers or the Movies. Since the Movies which has a restaurant for dinning at the movies was closed that day, we decided to head to this attractive pizza place. And yes! It was absolutely delish so I highly recommend it.
On a side note, my outfit was rather ... meh. I got kicked out of the hotel for snoozing passed check out time so I threw on whatever was available. I was wearing an APC navy cardigan, a Theory striped tee, a new pair of Paige bootcut (apparently needs to be broken into as I really dislike the feeling of new clothing) and Castaner espadrilles, which are simply perfect for summer in style. I also carried the Celine Trio (not visible) and my scarf/pareo is from a small boutique in Barcelona which I acquired on my trip last summer.
It’s great to be back and writing again. Until next time. Have a lovely beginning of summer!
Another flat question - do you usually size up/down with flats or do you wear them true to size?
True to size because if it's leather it will stretch eventually and take the shape of your feet.
How do you break in your flats?
I have a shoe stretcher and leave them in for few days and wear the new flat around the house with socks in a few times... It works out for me :)
What do you think about petit-bateau? I'm thinking of purchasing one of their breton shirts but not sure whether or not it's worth it.
Hi there! Petit Bateau has long lasting good quality wear jersey breton tops but sometimes it shrinks too fast so I typically buy larger size knowing that my upper body is kind of longer that the top's cut. That being said, I still own a couple of stripes from Petit bateau :)
I discovered your blog yesterday and wanted to let u know that i like it heaps!u got a great sense of style:) x x
Awww thanks a lot!
i just turned 18 yrs old and have never been clubbing. what would you wear if you were to go to a club? i'm not a very scandalous person, but definitely want to wear something stylish!
Hi, Happy late Birthday! I typically wear the same things I wear in the day (blue jeans) with a swap for a more elegant top maybe (black silk blouse, black lace tank). I might wear heels depending on my mood. Other nights, I might just go out with just a simple Tee, cardigan, and a pair of black skinnies with a touch of red lips and a bun. So, as you know I'd wear something comfortable and having fun is more important than paying too much attention to my clothes. Lately though I just purchased a black mini leather skirt for a change. I have no idea how that's gonna turn out but it would be fun to try :) Let me know what your choice will be...
Hello, I am a big fan of your style. May I ask what style/colour your K. Jacques spartans are? They look lovely and so versatile. I tried to find them on the K.Jacques website. Could it be the model "picon pul" in the colour "natural"? If you could give me a hit that would be much appreciated! I have been saving up for these for some time and would like to get it right. Many thanks and best regards
Hi! Yes I think you got it right :) Let me know how you'll like it. Thanks!
Hi! I'm sorry if you've answered this question before but what kind of jacket do you wear in the spring?
Hi! I've been wearing my parka a lot although it doesn't rain. It is from APC and I love it so much. If it's warm, I just wear light cardigans. Thanks!
Hi, reader from instagram. I has been curious about your necklace. Circle golden one. May i know where did you get this? Thx :)
Hello :) Sorry for delay. It is a gift from Tiffany.
Hi. I just discovered your blog and I love it. I would like to know your list of wardrobe essentials. And I wanted to know which Saint James shirt you have. Is it the Meridien? Thank you!
Thank you. It's not the Meridien, I think I may have the Galathée. I owned the Meridien before and it was nice just shrunk too much for my body so I passed it down to my sister.
The list of my wardrobe essentials... this will be boring but here you go: I started to realize as of recent that I gravitate towards the exact same thing I like to wear every single day to work even the same on the week ends that include comfortable short sleeve Tee topped with a thin V-neck cardigan and a wide trouser. I pair this outfit with Chanel flats or ankle black low heels boots. Other times I wear dark blue jeans and striped tops. And some other times I wear a cigarette style black trouser with flats. The colors are typically black, navy, different shades of grey, white, and camel. Thinking about adding new hues perhaps red or burgundy even olive green... Thanks for your question!
hey, I got a pair of matte black repetto flats with a tiny heel (the exact same ones you have), and I've worn them out at least 6 times, but it get the most HORRIBLE blisters on the heels of my foot. Did you have this problem/how did you solve it?? thanks!
Yes! I did! I wear "no show"socks for flats. Wearing these shoes barefoot (hot weather in San Diego), will cause blisters no matter what... Hope this helps :)
Hello! I am an architecture student and I would like to attend an english language course during the month of august with a duration of 2 weeks at St Diego University. Can you give me some advice? Anyway I really love your blog. Let me know :)
Hi! Thanks for writing.
I can't help much with SDSU (San Diego State University) as I did not graduate from there. But I believe for any course, it typically last one quarter (10 weeks) or a semester as in SDSU (16 weeks). So I am not certain whether you could find a 2 week course. Perhaps during the summer, they might offer some fast track (shorter duration) but again I can't say much. I could suggest to check on their online site to see what's offered in the summer :) www.sdsu.edu/
Good luck!
hey! i'm going to college (freshman year!) and i'm super nervous! i was wondering where you would suggest to purchase some affordable back to school clothes that still look classy and put together? thanks a bunch! :)
Hi! Exciting!!! When I was back in school, I like simple things like t-shirts, shirts, cardigans, jeans, flats, and sneakers. If you are like me, then I go shop at APC (on sale), Mango (my cardigans), petit bateau (tees and tanks), also try Madewell (cute things there). Invest in nice outwear (wool coat, parka, trench, leather jacket, blazer) and shoes (boots, heels, flats). Hope this helps :)
