Seafaring women: the brave Mrs. Holmes
"On New Year's Eve, 1855, the tea clipper Living Age struck a reef in the South China Sea while under full sail. In a ghastly cacophony of tearing timbers she shuddered to a stop, pinned to the rocks and swept by a vicious surf that took the boats away. The men were yelling and running about in panic, convinced that they were about to be overrun by pirates, when the captain's wife, Mrs. Robert P. Holmes, hove into sight on deck.
Mrs. Holmes was wearing men's clothing and carrying a dirk, but her whole demeanor was so calm that the seamen were instantly ashamed, and made an effort to control themselves. As day dawned, the whole ship's company managed to make its way to the island, which turned out to be uninhabited by piratesâor anyone else. For more than a month, until February 25, 1856, when rescue finally arrived, Mrs. Holmes somehow survived on that island, a lone woman in a party of desperate men. Unsurprisingly, once they got back home, neither she nor her husband went on voyage again."

every spelunker should go in with a cyanide tooth capsule so if they get stuck they can take the gentle way out instead of being tortured by the earth for 72 hours and then dying anyway
@kropotkindersurprise said:
it should be an explosive device, so they widen that part of the cave at the same time and no other spelunkers will get stuck there
beautiful vision. i love the idea of a minecraft-style world where if you explode underground it just clears a radius

as everyoneâs always saying. it rhymes with pain
Dany had wanted to lead the attack herself, but to a man her captains said that would be madness, and her captains never agreed on anything. Instead she remained in the rear, sitting atop her silver in a long shirt of mail. She heard the city fall from half a league away, though, when the defendersâ shouts of defiance changed to cries of fear. Her dragons had roared as one in that moment, filling the night with flame. The slaves are rising, she knew at once. My sewer rats have gnawed off their chains.
When the last resistance had been crushed by the Unsullied and the sack had run its course, Dany entered her city. The dead were heaped so high before the broken gate that it took her freedmen near an hour to make a path for her silver. Josoâs Cock and the great wooden turtle that had protected it, covered with horsehides, lay abandoned within. She rode past burned buildings and broken windows, through brick streets where the gutters were choked with the stiff and swollen dead. Cheering slaves lifted bloodstained hands to her as she went by, and called her âMother.â â Daenerys VI A Storm of Swords

More seafaring women
I've always thought that Mary Ann Patten was one of the most hardcore seafaring women. I mean:
It was 1856
She was 19 and pregnant
Her husband had fallen ill so she took command of his ship
Stopped a mutiny and made everyone accept her commands
Navigated the treacherous waters of Cape Horn and safely reached her destination
However, I just finished reading Joan Druett's Hen Frigates and found some serious contenders.
(Hen Frigate: c.1785 traditionally any ship with the captain's wife on board. Yes, there was a term for that)
Emma Armstrong
1879, the ship Templar arrived in San Francisco. Everyone though the ship had been lost
However, the captainâs fifteen-year-old daughter, Emma Armstrong, had taken command
The ship had been caught through a gale and sickness spread on board
The captainâs wife died and the captain himself was terribly ill
The ship was without a navigator. Luckily, Emma had the requisite navigation skills because her father had taught her
Emma herself was ill. She had to be brought on deck in a litter to give directions and instructions
She brought the ship safely into port along with the valuable cargo
Miss ArnoldÂ
1850, the ship Rainbow, having departed from England, reached Aden, South Africa
The ship was commanded byâŠMs Arnold, the captain's sixteen-year-old daughter whose father had died
The untrustworthy second mate tried to deceive her and to run away with the ship. So she appealed to the crew and placed herself under their protection, a task they took very seriously
She then made them throw all the alcohol overboard
She kept the crew under control for the rest of the journey
