Be adventurous and catch local transport. Whether it's catching a local bus in Vietnam or Peru or catching the Underground in London or Metro in Paris, it's a great way to see how the locals live. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One of the things we love to do in cities is hope off a few stops before our destination. That way we can explore some more and even then walk to our intended destination.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My (not so glamorous) story about using local transport:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On a local bus in Vietnam, the bus was so crowded at one stop (and me with my weak bladder needed the ladies room), I decided to climb out one of the windows. I ended up with a bruise on my inner arm from my elbow to my armpit. I missed the bus tyre as a foot hold and my arm slide across the metal window sill as I had to jump to the ground. While in Amsterdam we decided to head to the Alkmaar Cheese Markets for a day trip. We watched the hustle and bustle of the cheese markets, ate some amazing cheese and wandered the stalls in the surrounding markets. I can't help it but I have to stop every time a see an animal when we're travelling. We found this cutie at the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress in Helsinki.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When we were planning our trip to Peru, we went to the doctor to get our vaccinations updated. We explained we were travelling to Peru and he said "on don't worry about a rabies vaccination, just don't pat any dogs". My husband looked at me and burst out laughing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hubby then proceeded to explain to the doctor that animals were like a magnet to me. Ok, now one of the things I talk about a lot in travel photography is to not just take photos of those beautiful sweeping landscapes but to also look for the detail.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I think I found some interesting detail in this suit of armour at the Tower of London! While we all are in awe of the stunning landscapes we see while travelling, don't forget to look for the detail. St John’s Catholic Church, Richmond, Tasmania⠀ ⠀ St John’s Catholic Church, found on the banks of the Coal River is located in Richmond, Tasmania and is the oldest still-functioning Catholic Church in Australia.⠀ ⠀ The church opened on 31 December 1837. The church is considered Australia’s oldest Catholic Church, although this may not be totally accurate. The foundation stone for St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney was laid in 1821, but the original chapel was destroyed by fire in 1865.⠀ ⠀ The church is a short walk from the Richmond Bridge. The church is beautifully maintained, however it was disappointing to see the paving that had been used to create the car park outside which detracts from the look of the building.⠀ ⠀ However, from the front, the view of the church with the beautiful garden gives a great photo opportunity.⠀ ⠀ If you are stopping in Richmond to see the bridge, it is well worth the short walk up to the church. The Rocky Mountaineer is an amazing way to see Canada.⠀ ⠀ We had the amazing experience of travelling on the Rocky Mountaineer and since it was on our bucket list we decided to travel in the Gold Leaf service - the double decker carriages. We hadn't taken much notice of the seats we were allocated until we started looking for our carriage and we realised we had the front carriage of Gold Leaf. Then as we looked for our seats we realised we had the very front row of the front carriage of Gold Leaf! Enjoying a beautiful day in Cusco before heading to start the Inca Trail.⠀ ⠀ I remember this day so well.
