2. I’ve been a semi-professional cosplayer for 5 years. My first was Maggie Greene from the Walking Dead and my latest is Ukai Keishin from Haikyuu.

3. I almost died when I was a toddler from a lung condition I’ve forgotten the name of. It still affects me to this day, making it so I can’t play sports and smoking is a really bad idea for me.

4. I have a Pokemon tattoo and plan to eventually have a patchwork sleeve of anime tattoos.

5. I come from a very large family - we stopped counting in 2010.

6. The first fandom I wrote publicly for is Marvel. The first ever was probably Harry Potter.

It’s natural, harmless, and even beneficial to the world as a whole for there to be non-grass flowers and plants in your lawn, caterpillars and beetles chewing on your shrubs and yes, even insects and arachnids living inside of your house. The vast majority have absolutely zero means of harming or even inconveniencing you and the sooner people get over the compulsion to keep a sterile, lifeless property the better it will be for the ecosystem.

Cats vs other pets

I think the main reason why I’m a cat person (who lets their cats outside and all) is because I don’t own cats. And I don’t mean, that their isn’t a cat living in my house on a general basis cause there is. But I do not OWN him. He owns himself.

You see, every other “pet” you have keep in a cage (a bird or a guinea pig), in a tank (fish or reptiles) or always keep them on a thight leash (dogs or horses etc. ) No matter how often you repeat the words “my pet is my friend” it won’t ever be the full truth. Cause first and foremost you are their OWNER. You OWN your fish or dog or bird. You will always be above them, will always keep them trapped in some kind of way and leave them no actual choice.

And that’s what I cannot and will never be able to get behind. I don’t want to own someone I want to befriend someone. And with a cat you can do exactly that. You give them food and places to sleep but you let them outside and they just COME BACK. Of course at first because you give them food regularly but in my expirience, neighbours will do the same even if they shouldn’t. This means they ACTIVLEY CHOOSE TO COME BACK BECAUSE OF YOU AND HOW YOU TREAT THEM EVERY SINGLE DAY.

So pls start appreciating cats more and stop caging other “pet” (or at least give them an appropriate large cage/tank etc.)

This is a pretty unfortunate misunderstanding of how caging animals works.

For the vast majority of caged animals, it would be irresponsible at best and neglectful at worst to let them roam free constantly. Parrots explore with their beaks, and are subject to a variety of accidents without supervision. There’s hundreds of horror stories of birds who were left alone and drowned in common household objects like cups, vases or open toilets, birds who electrocuted themselves on an electric cord, etc. The same applies to small rodents and lagomorphs; they will easily chew up cords they shouldn’t and hurt themselves. Smaller rodents like mice can also trap themselves in small places where you can’t find them. Reptiles need to be in their enclosures for some of the time due to having specific temperature requirements (that keeping your whole house at would be unsafe for human residents). Caging all of the time is cruel. Keeping your pet in a large cage furnished properly with lots of toys when you cannot supervise it is absolutely not.

Also……..please don’t let your cat outside. Domestic cats kill at least 1.4 billion birds in the U.S. alone. They wreak havoc on local ecosystems. Your cat will also be vulnerable to being hit by a car or attacked by other animals.

The internet could change next week, and not in a good way

You may have heard about the efforts in Europe to reform copyright law. The debate has been ongoing in the European Parliament for months. If approved next week, these new regulations would require us to automatically filter and block content that you upload without meaningful consideration of your right to free expression. 

We respect the copyrights and trademarks of others, and we take all reports seriously to ensure that your creative expression is protected. We make this clear in our Community Guidelines. There’s already a legal framework that works and is fair: Today we take down posts and media that contain allegedly infringing content when we receive a valid DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown request. We also provide clear-cut ways for people to fight back if they believe their removed content was not a true violation. These instances are monitored and reported and live in our biannual transparency report. 

The suggestion to use automated filters for issues of copyright is short-sighted at best and harmful at worst. Automated filters are unable to determine whether a use should be considered “fair use” under the law and are unable to determine whether a use is authorized by a license agreement. They are unable to distinguish legitimate parody, satire, or even your own personal pictures that could be matched with similar photographs that have been protected by someone else. We don’t believe that technology should replace human judgment.
