can i say something. i think it’s really. Weird. how we (the collective “we”) readily accept illi mcmillin as a character - as a female character, but still struggle so much with gerard’s very real identity as a gender nonconforming person. someone who has publicly said they don’t mind what pronouns you use, someone who’s closest friends use neutral language for. the cheerleader outfit isn’t crossdressing, she is just Wearing Clothes. i think headcanons are beautiful i think the art and connection people feel to illi as a hc’ed trans girl is great but can we talk about how gerard way is also. and has been this whole time. nonbinary?

there is no greater sin that being a woman, than being feminine, until it’s fake. until we can make something up. but when a very real queer person is doing something weird with their gender it’s ignorable? or we turn it into something more easily Dealt With.

#i fear an insane amount of people took the dresses and skirts gerard has worn on stage to be a costume + something that is a joke #but here’s the thing #we KNOW when gerard is being a character #we KNOW when gerard is doing drag #we saw it on the same damn tour when they got on stage in that sequinned blazer in newark #and they butched it tf up #so when gerard gets up in stage wearing a cheerleader dress and does nothing to call attention to it #it’s because they’re not doing drag #they mean it #and when gerard gets on stage and someone tosses them a trans flag and their band mates beam at them #it’s because they mean it #and when frank goes on a podcast and says how amazing it been to see gerard be themself on stage #it’s because they mean it !!#like this is a real person who is gender non conforming and people ignore it because they don’t have a concrete LABEL for them #almost like that’s the whole point!

"Because it feels like something's happening. This feels alive. You know that tour we were gonna do in 2020, that would've been a good fucking time. But in those two and a half years, something fucking changed.

And so it's alive. *meta-man voice* it's, so it's alive.

So anyway, I'm gonna talk here. So, um. I like to think. I know you like to think. I don't like explaining myself, fooling things or anything like that but I think this may be kind of important, so.

I guess one of the things I was thinking the other night with that outfit where I was making a mess up here with my friends, is that: we deserve to live, right? In a real world, with real things, and real people.

So. We don't want your meta-verse. We don't want you having every single detail of our lives, and CONTROL over it. So do you know how I feel about living your life on a screen, and giving everything- giving these corporations everything. And living in a new and beautiful and EXCITING, virtualistic fucking world.

I feel the same way that David Lynch feels about watching a movie on your telephone. Look it up!

You know, here's the thing. I'm not judging, there's no judgement. You do your thing on there, I've done my thing. Maybe in the future I'll do some more computer shit. [to audience] I fucking love you too.
