my fave writing reminder
honestly, this phrase has been on my mind more times than i can count. i've kidnapped it, taken it as a hostage with no ransom money because i need it to live permanently in my head.
@desired-misery
Witch tip: Be sure to distinguish which correspondences are social constructs (for example, associating roses with romance), and which are informed by nature (for example, associating the color red with life, because blood).
This isn't to say that social construct correspondences are bad or lesser - they aren't! But distinguishing between the two helps you develop a better sense of what you can play around with, and how.
When you understand plant based correspondences that are informed by nature, you can also figure out what in your local flora has similar characteristics or fills a similar niche in the environment. That way you can integrate something that is local and seasonably available to your practice, which may make it so you don’t have to buy as much stuff (and for some ingredients, participate in exploitative systems).
enough toxic masculinity I'm ready for salubrious mexicanity. I'm ready for a social movement that encourages (esp straight, cis) men to indulge in things that make them more joyful, emotionally healthy, and help them strengthen not core muscles but core compassionate communication skills.
I cannot stress enough that I have a minor speech impediment and voice-to-text decided it was more likely that I said "mexicanity" than "masculinity." I was not in fact alluding to the potential healing benefits of being Mexican. I am however perfectly content with this post being about that instead.
many thanks to those who thought this post was about gomez addams. from this moment forward, tis
glad to see my tags have been greenlit by the studio audience!
#gomez addams--peak masculinity #this is what the machismo ideal looks like #he's short. he worships his tall scary wife. every night is ballroom dancing date night. and he waltzes with such SWAGGER. he is so excited each and every day to wake up and be a husband a father a brother. he encourages all of his family in their interests. he is a friendly and (tries to be a) helpful neighbor. he spends his time swordfighting & loving his family & playing with train sets #peak performance
There's no better joy in this world than watching someone collapse to their own self when you agree with them:
You know witchcraft is probably the placebo, right?
Me - yeah
Them expecting a fight - wait, why do you practice it then?
I don't know whether I'm placeboing myself a new life or whether I'm manipulating the forces of change in the universe but either way, I'm becoming a better version of myself and overcoming my enemies, my own issues and living well. Is that not what the end game is?
If its real, then its real and I've gotten pretty good at it.
If its placebo, then its placebo and I'm getting pretty good at making the placebo work for me.
Like is it supposed to make me stop?
...There I was, veritably myself again.
This life is a F*CKING NIGHTMARE
I love everything about this.
btw, if you used the term "human shields" seriously when talking about palestinians and referred to "hamas stealing aid" then you manufactured consent.
just really want to drive home that any person who talked about either of these two "topics" as if they're serious concerns are culpable in participating in this genocide. im not joking. you should feel incredibly guilty over this.
if you’re focusing on hamas “using human shields” rather than israel indiscriminately bombing civilian areas, then you’re part of the problem.
if you’re focusing on “Hamas stealing aid” rather than israel deliberately depriving Palestinians of food, water and other necessities, then you’re part of the problem.
if you’re focusing on hamas anything at this stage rather than the root cause of these problems facing Palestinians (israel, the occupation etc), then you’re part of the problem.
because nothing says caring about the livelihoods of Palestinians more than tacitly supporting the destruction of these livelihoods.
Reminder that the whole entire point of human shields is that the shield in question is an innocent civilian who is supposed to be protected. The other side is supposed to say, "Ugh damn it, I can't get at the bad guy because he's got an innocent civilians in front of him blocking my shot."
Theyre not supposed to say "oh he's using a human shield. That's fine, I'll just shoot both of them."
And they're CERTAINLY not supposed to say "this organisation of approximately 30k individuals is run out of the city that we trapped them in, so I guess we will bomb all 2.3 million people in the city and claim that it's justified because they were all being used as human shields."
Like. The whole POINT of human shields is that the Good Guys are supposed to value the life of the shield more than they value the death of the Bad Guy.
If using human shields is bad (and, it is, but more on that later) then deliberately KILLING human shields is, in my opinion, worse. Because then you're the guy who looked at an innocent civilian and said, "I couldn't care less whether or not they die, just so long as the Bad Guy hiding behind them also dies." You're the one who deliberately chose to kill an innocent person, because you valued the death of the Bad Guy more than you valued the civilians right to live.
Now, obviously, I don't support the use of human shields. You're putting an innocent civilian at risk. And as Israel has proven on a large scale: there is every chance that the person you're facing might decide to slaughter your shield just to get to you, and that's not on. Using human shields is cowardly and heartless.
With that in mind, here are some interesting links.
Here's a UN report about how Israel used Palestinian kids as human shields at least four times in 2022.
Here's a video of Israel using a Palestinian shopkeeper as a human shield.
Here's an article with a bunch of evidence-supported instances of Israel using Palestinian civilians as human shields.
Israel slaughters so-called human shields (read: civilians who happened to be lucky enough to live in Gaza), and they decry the use of human shields in the first place and claim that the civilian deaths aren't their fault, they're the fault of the organisation that was so cowardly and reprehensible as to use human shields in the first place ------ but they themselves have a well-documented history of using human shields that goes back YEARS.
So not only are they the type of people who will deliberately kill innocent civilians to get to the Bad Guy, they're also the type of people to claim outrage about such a tactic... all whilst employing the exact same method themselves, for years.
Always reblog
As a former zookeeper we would hear this a lot. “If you don’t study hard you’ll end up cleaning poop for a living.” It’s the one time we’re allowed to go off on the visitors. I once heard my boss rant for five minutes at a lady, in front of her kids, about how he had a Master’s degree, how people literally worked there for free, and how dare she judge people without bothering to know anything about them. Later that day his boss came by and said, roughly, “She told us what happened. Thanks for not throwing anything this time.”
I can count on one hand the amount of times I have gone off on people, but employment snobbery gives me the rage. I was showing the new kid how to use the fry scoop at McDonald’s “.. like this, and then just sort of hold it perpendicular and give it one tap..”
And the new kid sniggered “isn’t perpendicular a bit of a big word for McDonald’s?”
Something in me was just so annoyed by this 16yr old who was learning to work right next to me and somehow felt above us? Fuck that shit. I pointed at the people just on the floor and went off, “she’s a 4th year law student, she’s the primary career for her terminally ill daughter, he raises 100,000 for charity every year, she manages 3 stores and more than £16mil in turnover a year. What the fuck do you do?”
He just sort of mumbled “I didn’t know”
“you shouldn’t have to know, you’re not better than us. So. You tap it once and then move it here to release…”
“I didn’t know.”
“You shouldn’t have to know,”
yes to all this because workers can be educated and intelligent, but also, even if workers are formally uneducated or dont know big words that doesnt mean they arent equally deserving of respect
Hey with all the piracy going on, be careful
you don’t know what could have a virus, don’t blindly trust random people on tumblr/twitter offering free cartoons!
I’ve been pirating stuff a couple years and I want to give some advice in case someone hasn’t done it before
-The piracy subreddit (reddit.com/r/piracy) is a great place to start, there’s a guide there that can give you links to everything you would want (streaming sites, torrenting sites, where to get roms, what torrenting programs to use ect.)
- if your streaming ALWAYS USE A AD BLOCKER (and cookie clearer if you want extra protection) piracy sites 99% of the time are full of ads and pop-ups. If you don’t want to a bunch of local milfs in your area ads covering your screen use a ad blocker. Any ad blocker will work but I’m currently using ublock origin + privacy badger
-if your torrenting ALWAYS USE A VPN,even if it’s a free shitty one. If you don’t use a VPN your isp could try to shut off your internet if you get caught pirating or you could be fined if you live in certain countries, also its generally safer. If you don’t have the money to pay for a VPN I would recommend proton vpn, it’s free and it doesn’t keep logs (which means you data isn’t being kept and sold like most free vpns)
- this is mentioned in the megathread on r/piracy but I’ll mention it here just to make sure. try to avoid using pirate bay,it’s full of malware and viruses. Also don’t use utorrent (when you install it it also installs a bitcoin miner), I would recommend using qbittorrent instead.

sending your friends terrible tumblr posts is a love language
A drabble is like a sonnet. It has rules. The rules make it an art form. It should have exactly 100 words.
This has been around since the old fandoms, of live journal and newsgroups.
Ficlet. Flashfic. Those are short things.
A drabble is 100 words.
Wikipedia agrees: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drabble
The term is much older than LJ and according to this, goes back to British pro SFF writers in the 1980s.
Variants can exist as long as they have the very strict wordcount requirement. Sherlock Holmes fandom has the 221B drabble (exactly 221 words, last word must start with B). “Twitterature” is exactly 280 characters, the maximum length of a tweet.
Flash fiction is a related concept that might include a strict wordcount or it might not: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_fiction
Seriously, lots of words exist for very short stories that don’t have a wordcount requirement: ficlet, short fic, one-shot, mini-fic, etc. Don’t take away a word that means something specific when there is no other thing that means exactly that.
It’s exactly like you don’t call any random short poem a haiku.
Writer’s Digest’s most recent Your Story contest says as much: “Write a drabble—a short story of exactly 100 words—based on the photo prompt below.”
Drabble is not a fanfic-exclusive term. It is a professional writing term that fandom has borrowed. It has a very specific meaning.
