Why Yotsuba won

Season 1

First one to accept Fuutarou right away and tried to help him get the girls on his side (episode 1)

Helped Fuutarou get Miku on his side to study (episode 2)

His type resembles Yotsuba - besides her loving her big brother BUT IT STILL COUNTS! For reminder, he said "always cheerful and knows how to cook". (episode 7)

After he'd realized she is a bad liar, she used the opportunity to "lie" and say she likes him. As we know, the lie was that she was lying about her feelings (episode 8)

For the school trip, Yotsuba said "let's make memories that we won’t forget" which meant a lot to him (episode 9)

He got embarrassed when Yotsuba wanted to hold his hand to help him with skiing (episode 11)

He saw how special she was due to her athletic abilities and didn't want to take it away from her, even if it's only in a silly game of tag (episode 11)

Yotsuba was mentioned twice in his school camping trip book. It may be due to the fact that they were doing some things together, but he was definitely planning on telling more stories about Yotsuba to Raiha (episode 12)

When he was sick in bed during the trip, Yotsuba was holding his ring finger (episode 12)

"Thank you for always being by my side" - as I've said, the person ALWAYS being by his side was Yotsuba (episode 12)

Season 2

Her and Itsuki devised a plan for "Rena" to see Fuutarou. At this point in time, he was already aware of the fact that she is one of the girls (episode 2-3)

"Also... Well, that part's probably just in my head" - in the back of his mind, he thinks Yotsuba likes him to some degree. In the anime at least, the last (episode 3)

He's trying so hard to save Yotsuba from the track team (episode 4)

He sees her hard work, as seen when he got reeeeaaaalllly mad at their father for not believing in her (episode 5)

When she sent a message to Miku that she wasn't feeling well, he knew that she was lying! (episode 6)

Sort of a bonus, but all of them gave Yotsuba a part of her cake. Could've been foreshadowing of them moving on and letting them be happy (episode 7)

He knew how to differentiate Yotsuba first, so he gave her an easy answer, knowing she would slip up (episode 8)

She wanted Fuutarou to make more friends so she made him into a class representative. And no, she wasn't doing it to spend more time with him. (episode 9)

She was genuinelly making paper cranes as a gift for Fuutarou cause she noticed how tired he was from studying and tutoring (episode 10)

Now I don't remember this promise, but apparently Yotsuba did something at the school camping trip and then Fuutarou promised Raiha that he'd give Yotsuba a gift? Please somebody remind me, I am rewatching the anime (episode 10)

THE PARK DATE! Her innocence, the view, the moment she jumped - that's the moment he fell for her. (episode 10)

He noticed that she was upset when she proposed the idea of all of them being in the group for the trip with Fuutarou but without her (episode 10)

She was doing everything she can to make her sisters happy by trying to match up Fuutarou and Miku together (episode 11)

Movie

He spared some time to do some research for the festival.

He wanted to make the school festival the best possible. The change in his heart, the one that made him want to make precious memories is Yotsuba

When she gave him the karaage ticket, he said "I'm lucky that you're around" yet again showing how she is an important existence to him.

Can you really say that he would film the entire festival if it were any other girl? He has known for a long time by this point that she has been helping him to achieve happiness for a long time now

When he was sitting on the stairs and sleeping, he had realized that Yotsuba was the girl from Kyoto. This only confirmed his feelings for her, he fell for her twice even.

"Which one were you able to tell apart first flawlessly?" It's Yotsuba.

Yes, all girls taught him to live life to the fullest, but Yotsuba was the one who instilled that idea to him. "You said it so much it got annoying" - she kept saying it so much he always held it to his heart and he is eternally grateful for it

"If you weren't involved, I would've given up a while ago.", "So for all my future screw-ups, I'd be happy if I had you by my side. You give me peace. Cause you're my anchor, Yotsuba, and I would love to be that for you."

Yes, I have actually rewatched the series and the movie - the movie which I've watched literally a week ago and inspired this post. However, I was a manga reader first when it came to this story, so I did have better acceptance of her winning (I was #TeamItsuki btw). I may or may not make this similar post but with manga-only panels, even if I do have to repeat myself

Go Toubun No Hanayome Chapter 122: Final Thoughts

First of all, there is a debate raging in the fandom about whether or not the entire wedding was a dream. It was not! Here’s why:

After the wedding and the reception, an incredulous Fuutarou has just learned that his honeymoon with Yotsuba will now include the other 4 quints, and Yotsuba is cool with it! As Yotsuba puts it, “It’s more fun with everyone together, right?” We know what happens next is a flashback because Fuutarou segues into it by saying, “Haven’t we had this same problem before?”

That he was dreaming about a wedding when the quints woke him up in the flashback was a coincidence. Negi wrote that to spark exactly the sort of debate that the fandom is now having. The quints immediately set to planning their graduation trip without paying any attention to Fuutarou’s input, much to his consternation! At this point, we get Fuutarou’s inner dialogue from the day of the wedding and the reception, where he says, “That’s right. I thought the same thing that time too… (meaning the flashback from 5 years earlier)” 

Then, on the next page we see the high school age quints deciding where the graduation trip will be and the young adult quints planning where the honeymoon will be. 

Finally, on the last page we see an exasperated high school age Fuutarou from the flashback along with a wistfully smiling young adult Fuutarou fondly reminiscing about the flashback. At this point, high school age Fuutarou and young adult Fuutarou both share the same thought: “Quintuplets are such a pain.”

The final chapter also brings the theme of her ribbons around full circle. Yotsuba started wearing them because she didn’t want to be mistaken for any of her sisters, but the root cause of that desire was seeing young Fuutarou mistake Ichika for her. 

Even when she was self-sacrificing to the point of self-abnegation, she still yearned to be special and didn’t want to be mistaken for her sisters. But now she doesn’t need ribbons to make herself special and distinctive because she’s already special in Fuutarou’s eyes, and she knows he’ll never mistake her for any of her sisters.

My biggest complaint about the ending is that we didn’t get to see the moment when Fuutarou learns that Yotsuba was the girl he met in Kyoto all those years ago. I really wanted to see his reaction when Yotsuba finally told him. My only hope is that the anime will create that moment for me. Yotsuba does imply that she will tell him that she’s the one he met in Kyoto in the near future. She does this right after Fuutarou learns that she was the bell kisser, and after she tells him that he’s the reason she doesn’t need to wear her trademark ribbons anymore.

Other than that I liked the final chapter. I can’t help but yearn for more Fuuts x Yots sweetness. The problem is that good stories are all about tension, conflict and resolution. J.R.R. Tolkien put it this way in “The Hobbit:” 

“Now it is a strange thing, but things that are good to have and days that are good to spend are soon told about, and not much to listen to; while things that are uncomfortable, palpitating, and even gruesome, may make a good tale, and take a deal of telling anyway.”

The same basic premise applies in this story, albeit in a different way. Once Fuutarou and Yotsuba had confessed to each other and she was freed from her guilt, their problems were all resolved. With no more conflicts to resolve the main story was over. At that point all that remained was the wedding. As for the happily ever after, we got that in 121 when we learned that Ichika had become a famous actress, Itsuki was a teacher, and Nino & Miku were running a cafe together.

It’s not a perfect ending but it’s a good one. For the loose ends, there are always fanfics and doujins. It’s been a fun ride, and I’m going to miss looking forward to new chapters each week. At least there’s season 2 of the anime to look forward to. That’s all I have to say for now. What more do you want to know?

I don't get why everyone is so angry about the ending of The Quintessential Quintuplets... To me Yotsuba was the one right from the start and anyone else would have been a less good choice. She is the one who taught Futaro how to be more cool and without her he would have never done everything he did in the manga. She is the one who made him a more sociable person and I would even say a better person. And she is also the one who deserved so much love and was underrated.

But to be honest I would have been happy if he had ended up with Nino or Miku. It's just that all the Yotsuba and Yotsutaro hate is driving me crazy. Respect them, they are good for each other and bring the best out of each other. Really. No hate toward the other ships, I like them all (except for Ichitaro, can't stand the pairing).
