MENTAL CONTROL SYSTEM
THE ILLUSION OF STABILITY
THE ILLUSION OF STABILITY
Do you realize how difficult it is for a woman to build a stable system? Her body is ever-changing, especially during her menstrual phase. Her system goes through periodic instabilities every month. Meanwhile, society expects her to function normally. She can’t lose her mind while her uterus is shedding its thick blood lining. And yet, she has to control it.
Control matters because life doesn’t wait for any of us. Here’s where the controllability of a system becomes crucial, wherein we can transfer the initial states of a system to some other desired states by controlling the input for a finite duration of time. But here, it’s the opposite. This system is observable, where it is through observability that we can determine the initial states by observing the outputs of the system. So, it’s not the same.
These periodic instabilities can still be controlled to some extent, but there is no absolute control over the inputs (hormones), since they can alter the outputs no matter how efficient the feedback system is. It doesn’t matter how many controllers we use, because some noise will always remain in the background.
Feedback is expensive and yet not completely reliable. The control action of a feedback system is dependent on the desired output, but it affects the gain and bandwidth of the input signal. Positive feedback can strengthen the signal (gain increases), but it can also corrupt it by increasing the noise. Negative feedback reduces the gain but increases the bandwidth of the input signal. This is a fine line between two extremes.
We might not get to choose our feedback paths, but we can always rebuild the transfer function by changing the zeros, poles, and gain. We all believe that our transfer function is constant. Well, it really isn’t. Once a system is designed according to a transfer function, it becomes difficult to change it all over again. But that’s exactly where controllers play a major role. They improve the performance of control systems as they are connected to the transfer function of the system.
And here’s the truth—this is just a practical solution and not the reality. Our body is a natural control system. It’s made up of millions of transfer functions of all possible types and orders. Just imagine the number of differential equations. There is no way to model it into a single state space. Hence, the purpose of controllability and observability doesn’t really add up.
The human body is a nonlinear, time-variant system. A woman’s body is simply an amplified version of this system. We try to achieve stability despite this persistent nonlinearity. Trying everything from Root Locus to Bode plots, the number of sign changes obtained from the Routh array is immeasurable.
Are we blindfolded into this state space? The steady-state error doesn’t even exist in reality, and yet we keep looking for error constants so that we can convince ourselves we’ve provided a suitable time response to the world. And again, the frequency response is just as limited, because the steady-state region is nothing but our illusion of stability.
We think we’re at least marginally stable, but the truth is that our system has long periods of being stable, marginally stable, and unstable. So there it is—an agonizing reality of hopelessness and the desperate need for control and stability.
But this is certainly not the end of it. We are so much more than these control systems. And this brings me to the part where I will tell you how and what exactly makes us human, whilst connecting it with science and engineering.
Stay tuned ;)
My mind is like an Excel sheet. An Excel sheet where everything is organized and every information is constantly filtered with the addition of new information. Be it thoughts, emotions, feelings, whatever it is, it all gets filtered out. And it's rapidly changing, like you're getting the derivative instantaneously. And it's so fast that I don't get time to integrate it into a single idea. Yes, it's simple and calculated and yet complicated at the same time. Well, the process is complicated.
But most importantly, I know what I want. The output information after each filtration is so clear, and with time it's getting sharper. It makes sense, yes. I'm aware of what is happening with the table. And whenever the input information is non-differentiable, it automatically gets placed on the decision shelf. It's basically a column where this information will be worked upon later due to an undeniable urgency of another information or idea.
This Excel sheet reflects everything on the table. You can easily see the drawbacks, where you lack, where the mistake is, what is missing, what is already there, what is necessary, what is unnecessary, what needs to be removed, improved, or reformulated. And all you need to do is take action. It needs to find its place in the real world. And with organization comes control. Controlling the process within both the Excel sheet and the real world. And with control comes discipline. With discipline comes stability. This is how you build a stable system.
And suddenly, if any inconsistencies occur, the system should be able to bounce back to stability. I'm not saying that you shouldn't acknowledge these discrepancies. You definitely should. It's about being able to choose stability despite the presence of non-differentiable information. Yes, it is difficult to build this system and keep track of the data. But such systems need a reset point. A point where the process of filtration ceases long enough to restart it so that it works more efficiently.
We need the information to be stored in the memory of a flip-flop. It can be externally set and reset, but it shouldn't toggle. This is an important condition. Clock signals will continue to fuel the system and it will function normally unless the bits of the information are changed or if they're sent from a different number system. Sequential logic needs sequence for a reason. And to be able to handle all kinds of logic, we need encoders. And for the system to communicate effectively, we need multiplexers and demultiplexers. Hence, build a complete microprocessor.
Yes, our brain is not made out of a circuit but it is flexible enough to work like one. It's a system—a system that can be controlled, a system that can always bounce back to stability. And an Excel sheet that records, reflects, filters, deletes, and changes the data according to the circuit of the system.
something suspicious. something surreal.
hm. let me think about it.
oh
are you judging me for taking too long to think about it?
oh wait
Is it JUDGEMENT?
why not ;)
JUDGEMENT
The word itself tells us that whatsoever it really is, it is judged to an extent. What is basically to 'judge' ? The whole idea behind this word revolves around assumption. As I'm now clear about assumptions, I'll dwell on my theory about judgement.
Judgement is a type of assumption. I'd say 'physical assumption'. It is assumed on the surface level of a person. Same as the idea behind 'first impression is the last impression'. I don't conform to that. Not even with the idea of judgement. But for its existence in our dictionaries and based on what my observational assumption says, I'd happily say that it is for a reason. Like we all say 'everything happens for a reason', same way existence has its own reason. And the word 'reason' again has its own existence. As for the judgement, there are two types.
— Judgement about people
— Judgement about things
— The third one is 'judgement about oneself' but it's not necessarily needed.
ABOUT PEOPLE
We all have found ourselves in a position saying 'she judges me a lot.', 'he is super judgemental when it comes to marks.' even the 'judges' on the TV shows. Judging people based on their physical appearance, cast, background or even past experiences is not completely wrong. Once again, I'd like to contradict myself. I'll explain why I always contradict myself when I'll write about 'self-judgement'. People are judged because of two reasons. First is because they need to prove themselves to be capable of something or say to be a deserving hand to hold. For example, Interviews and TV shows. It is simply based on one's self confidence and skills for the same. Here, the idea of judgement is right. The other reason is in a real sense, uncalled for and a genuine unneccesity. This is when you know the reason behind why people unnecessarily judge you. And here, the idea of judgement is wrong. Judgement is a paradox of assumption. When I say this, I'd like to mention a solid truth about these ideas. Every idea is connected to the other in one or the other way. And because of these ideas, more and more ideas develop. It is a simple cell division where the idea becomes a paradox. Every idea is a paradox. Because nothing in this world can't be not contradicted. There's a whole different theory about contradiction which I'll write later. But for now, this tells us what it is. The most popular question about judgement goes like 'why do people judge?' and the simple answer is, 'it's complicated'. Really, it isn't that complicated to understand when your observational assumption says so.
People unnecessarily judge you because they simply can't help themselves. The answer is pretty simple. We all say that when someone judges you, it's their perspective, their nature, their own issue which doesn't matter to us. So why do we even care about society judging us for so and so reason. One can always cover themselves with an 'I don't care what anyone thinks about me' mask. It's kinda difficult to say that it is a 'mask' and not really ourselves. Do you know why that happens? There are two reasons again. It is called a 'mask' because some people cannot change themselves or their ideology. And they wear this mask whenever they think they are tired of the judgement and want to do something without any fear or hesitation. The other reason is that they don't completely wear the mask. Sometimes, they are the mask. They've become the mask. Over time. They really don't care. And when you become this person, you feel alive. You actually feel like you're living your life and doing whatever you want because you have crossed the judgement line. You've reached there.
Now let's talk about self-judgement. What do I mean when I say this? Is it about judging your own self? Maybe. Something more superficial I guess. Sometimes we find ourselves in a position when we question ourselves on why we act like that, why our behavior is like that? 'Like that' is what you're judging about yourself. We feel we are not good enough to impress someone on a date or in an interview. Not literally feeling 'insecure' but you're just not okay with who you really are. Now I'd just like to question you( the one who is reading this right now) one thing, is being ourselves with people who don't judge us, makes us hate ourselves less? I'm sure that your answer is YES. A very not-so-complicated logic behind this works as one’s self-booster. We all know that there are very few people in our life with whom we can truly be ourselves with. Why is that? The answer is connected with the idea of assumption as well as with the Schrödinger's experiment. What I'm simply trying to say is that people who at the first place, are experienced, are less likely to assume, which makes them non-judgmental, carefree and honest, and with whom we can be ourselves with. The other way it goes like, the ones who aren't experienced, assumes at the first place, becomes arrogant and judgemental, and with whom we can't be ourselves with, which makes us hate ourselves even more. Now when it comes to being experienced or not, society plays a role. The same way, the scientist and his cat does. When I said 'we need such cats in our society', what I really meant was that we need people who are non-judgmental. Really, we need some. Why am I emphasizing a 'need' for such people is because in one way, people are supposed to express themselves without any hesitation. The other way, they need freedom. Becoming that cat and coming out of the box is what gives you freedom. Freedom to be yourself. This not only makes one an 'unconventional' creature but one who equally thinks 'out of the box'. The phrase 'think out of the box' was said for this reason. These cats, are the mask. They've become the mask.
We all thrive to express our individuality, be our true selves with everyone and have freedom to do whatever we want. Now let me take this whole thing to a less-popular contradiction.
We talked about people who judge us, people who make us judge our own selves and the reason behind it. Now what about when we judge others?
Most of us will go like, 'nah I'm not judgemental.' But hey you, yes you, don't mistaken yourself. One of the most common example used in our childhood by our parents was that 'five fingers aren't similar/ are not same. Same way, the people around you.' It is true.
We also judge people. How? We judge on two basis.
— On their mindset
— On their nature
People who are narrow-minded, tradition-followers and are attached to their respective customs or backgrounds, might not fill our cup of tea. We being an open-minded individual, might judge them based on their mindset. People who are manipulative, fake, cruel, selfish, cunning, and too proud of themselves might turn our ways back to our heads when we wished we had good people in this world. We being an honest individual, real and selfless, might judge them based on the nature.
And after this, I find myself back to square one where once I heard/read that 'there are good and bad people everywhere'. People who are narrow-minded are not necessarily bad from the inside. They might have a good nature, are loyal, honest and trustworthy. Same way, people who are open-minded are not necessarily good from the inside. They might be manipulative and fake.
Judgement is a type of assumption. And that assumption is a choice. Judgement is our choice. It is our choice to decide the criteria, the basis on which we will assume. Sometimes, Respect is that one idea which has the potential to kill that assumption. How?
When people of two different backgrounds, having two different ideologies, one following traditions and the other one coming out as a Maverick, after all, respect one's differences of mindset, hence decreases the chances of being judgemental towards one another. So what is that we really need in this world to attain peace? It is Respect. Respect of ones choices and mindset is what this society needs.
Let me now explain why I contradict myself to understand the truth. Do you remember that contradiction method we used in secondary school to prove that root(2) is irrational by assuming that it is rational? It all revolves around this. As in my previous Assumption theory, I said that assumption can be real when one contradicts the truth to obtain the truth. Sounds confusing? It is simple yet complicated. I gave an example of self satisfaction in that theory. It clearly says that when you know it is already a lie, why do you assume a lie to find the truth? In fact we already know the truth. Proving it is a different thing but for your satisfaction you go an extra mile to contradict yourself. Why? It is again a loophole of contradiction. I would like to mention one thing here that not every person can contradict ideas or his/herself to obtain the truth. There is a whole new perspective to that. I'll exaggerate on contradiction in the next theory but for now I would just say that when you contradict something, you either get stuck in that loophole or you obtain the truth. Not everything that is being contradicted can reach the truth. You might even find yourself overthinking. It is solely because of that. Judgement is also a contradiction. Except that it is our choice to assume. But assumption is a paradox of reality. And reality is vague. The idea takes us to that vague spot. We are stuck in assumption spiral and hence, it really is mindbending. Though one thing is crystal clear. We can't be truly ourselves with people who judge us no matter how many masks you wear or you become. There will never be a time when every single person in this world will stop judging. Why? As I always mentioned, Assumption spiral ends on a vague spot. But spirals are spiral, and it never really ends in reality. And the world which we created, is reality. So who knows if 30 years in future, we shift on Mars or Venus or on any planet in the solar system, is real? We never know. Who really cares anyways?
Now let's see what judgement about things are like.
ABOUT THINGS
There's pretty much stuff on judging things because it creates suspicion. As we all want the best for ourselves, we judge it to its core before buying or purchasing anything. But if we look at it from science point of view, we again, find ourselves back to square one. After all, we are trying to assume the right thing and we think it is all then real for us to see it and sense it.
Simply, judgement about things tend to be real. As for why we all go for scientific logic when looking at things and even doing it from the practical side, this whole idea becomes real. This is another example of real assumption. I won't talk much about this but when some critics speak about not doing it all logically, we know that we all go judgemental. Sometimes it's all because of contradiction. Wanna know why? Stay tuned for the next theory on contradiction.
Now what exactly I'm gonna conclude here, is highly contradictive. I know you all know what it is so imma leave it here only.
*inhales*
this is from the very bottom of my heart.
existence is real. reason is real. the reason for its existence is also real. even assumption. i don't think judgement is.
being all perfect and expecting the same from others won't really take us anywhere. so what helps you grow?
it is difficult to accept. atleast for some in this highly judgemental world. as being 'judgemental' has become a characteristic trait in people, who knows if Virgin Galactic fails to take us in space, and then slowly, on some distant planet, and we imagine, we live on some non-judgmental planet, and who really really knows I wonder, is it so?
we all want to learn. anybody can learn from a book. but what about humans? don't forget that we are walking books and there's much to our core. very few people can learn from other people's mistakes, can listen to their stories and even become a part of them.
so what is that one needs in order to grow? to learn even the smallest of the things we never knew about?
be judgemental.
judge yourself for judging people.
judge yourself for not learning enough.
judge yourself for not listening enough.
can this happen? I'm sure it can.
i don't wanna live on any distant planet. i love my planet. Earth is our home. and you can't change your home. but you can change people.
and
are you judging me right now? thanks. be judgemental.
i love judgemental people.
are you one?
something not-so-real. something very real.
um, is it an assumption?
yea. hopefully.
ASSUMPTIONS
Assumptions are self-made/ self-thought opinions about a person, thing, etc. Solely based on my observation, I can conclude that— Humans are bound to assume things. I'm not a neurologist or whatever but it is our human brain which tends to create its own thoughts about anything without any real fact.
There are two types of assumptions.
— Assumptions about people
— Assumptions about things
— The third one is not necessarily included but we can call it 'observational assumption'.
ABOUT PEOPLE
As I mentioned before, humans are bound to assume. Well, I would contradict myself right now. I will say that there are two types of peope. Some people assume and some don't. Why one does that?
For people who assume things about other people, are either— 'scared/afraid of dealing with human complexities' or they are 'complex/complicated themselves'. The other way, 'they either hate people or are extremely jealous' or 'they hate themselves'.
For people who do not assume anything about other people are either— 'experienced and have dealt with human complexities/complications' or 'they accept people around them as who they are'. The other way, 'they love people and are always willing to learn' or 'they love themselves for everything and accept it'.
Initially, we all assume. We all are in search to find answers, question everything and moreover, to know the reality, in us, in people or about things. If I say philosophically, People who are more experienced in life, are less likely to assume than the ones who still hold a child in them.
Let's see the third type.
Observational Assumption is simply what your mind develops after what you experience/learn. We always get multiple thoughts about various things which are in fact, not literally correct. We do become alert after our whatsoever experiences with other people. Now the thought which our mind develops after that, is our observational assumption. I would have said 'experienced assumption' but no, because experiences are never without observation. What I'm writing right now, this theory of mine, is basically my observational assumption. Why is it still assumption?
The word 'assumption' is itself an assumption. How fascinating is that? The world, the universe, the people, the nature, the life, it's all an assumption. In reality, nothing is that real. I know the thought behind all this is very deep, but still, nothing is real. Then what about the words which are invented as 'real' and 'reality' ? Why is it so? I guess, it is still an assumption. The word 'guess' itself tells us about the paradox of reality. Then what is really 'real' ? The fact that we consider our existence and our present life as reality, then what is real? Us? Are we real?
Let's talk about the second type.
ABOUT THINGS
When it comes to things, Science is involved. If I had to say whether 'Science is real', I'd say No. Now what I questioned earlier, can be explained right now. Reality, in the sense of what human eyes can perceive or has perceived, is said to be real. Science is all about that. Now the question is, Is consciousness real? We can say our body is. But what about that 'presence of mind' ? It is again, a paradox of reality.
It is an extremely mindbending theory for me, and hence, based on what my observational assumption says, I'd conclude it on a contradictory note.
Assumption, the word itself, makes us assume things about anything. Something which is not that real, something personal, opinions of our own self, is what makes the world of imagination. How? It is just an assumption. The magic behind this word is a mystery. And again, it is still not real. Real and Reality are opposite of assumption in the sense of what most people think. Self satisfaction is that one idea behind a real person. Though it is a dangerous idea, we in reality, are not alive at all. Self dissatisfaction takes us in the direction of truth. Hence, assumption can be real. The contradiction that lives between these ideas will always remain a paradox. So what is real, again? We don't know. I don't know. Now you know why 'I don't know' was said. Not literally for the question but for anything that was and is a paradox. Especially ideas and thoughts. We accept Science because we think our eyes can perceive reality. But our mind cannot. Our brain cannot. Assumptions about things are real in that sense but assumptions about people and oneself are not. So, what is real, again? I'd say nothing. Nothing is real but the world, which we created, the reality, is it?
*inhales*
observational assumption is literally that one idea on which our mind works most of the time. and it is still an assumption. sometimes, the way we find ourselves overthinking and overanalysing almost everything around us, is in a sense of what i would say, we are stuck in "assumption spiral".
we really don't know what is real and reality because we have never really cared to think about it. even if we go beyond that spiral, we find ourselves in that "vague spot". the spot isn't vague, the idea is. and hence, what real and reality is.
'mindbending' is literally mind bending as assumption spiral on either of the ends bends into vagueness which leaves you on a spot, as blank as the wall, as vague as the sky, as painful as what you think right now.
i can say the one who is reading this right now, assumes a truth, maybe? a lie? nah it's your observational assumption duh.
something unusual. something needed.
Hope y'all are familiar with the Schrödinger's cat experiment.
Now there are two cases.
If the society is Schrödinger, then we are the cat. Stuck in the box filled with the poison called 'log kya kahenge'(what will people say?). He experiment this on us. What do we become? What happens to the cat? U never know until you open the box. It's either dead or alive. We're either bound to live with poison in our heads or we die. We die of the judgment, humiliation, torture or any kind of verbal abuse affecting our condition. This shows the society's conventional experiment on us. Where what happens next, is always either of that.
If we are Schrödinger, then the cat is the society. Let's take this to another level. We are experimenting on society. Same way, they're stuck in the box filled with the poison. Now what? We know the society has this poison in their blood. Any chances of dying? Maybe. Yes. They might die of the same thing of what we did. Why? That's what it is. What about the chance of being alive? That's again, possible. But it won't stay for long.
This is how traditions are made, followed and passed on to the next generation. It's on us whether we want to perish or keep living with the norms. I believe, the word 'dark humor and death' are closely related. This is the reason. You live when you choose to die but die when you choose to live. It's all about metaphors, you see. Schrödinger can never stop experimenting and the cat will never be not stuck.
One more thing, the scientist never dies. Only the cat does. So you need to be very careful in choosing who is what. Because then it's all about either and or.
Last thing
What if Schrödinger's cat is stubborn enough to not stay in the box and come out of it? What if it's not too attached with the scientist and brave enough to do what it wants? Hahah. That's when you know why the word 'unconventional' was invented. It was for the cats who didn't listen to the scientist. So now what? Cat is out of the box and the scientist is out of his mind. We need such cats in our society. I'm this cat. Are you?
A hint of the Indian society. An otherworldly perspective is seen. This is what it is. A scintilla of unconventional motive might hold the potential to change it for the better.
*inhales*
nah i don't have any such obsession with cats. some cats did change the society. even some scientists did.
