Not watching the show yet...so I am not exactly sure how she is being protected as not smart...

And I am not defending the CM writer since they have a habit of being inconsistent with character / backstory when it suits them

...but genuine question...

Any chance the character is being depicted as suffering from neurodivergence hitting perimenopause?

Or maybe just plain old getting old?

(which I can attest sometimes makes me feel/act super fog brained and appear much less smart)

If you're not watching the new season, I won't spoil it for you. I just feel they wrote her doing things out of character just for plot reasons. But it's just my opinion.
