Youâre an angel, Iâm a dog.
May Sarton, The Poetry of May Sarton
Sonnet 30
I won't let words rest. At times they feel ashamed of themselves and want to die, inside of me. When that happens I'm in love.
In a world otherwise silent peopleâonly peopleâchatter away. What's more, sun and trees and clouds are unconscious of their beauty.
A fast-flying plane flies in the shape of a human passion. Though the blue sky pretends to be a backdrop, in fact there's nothing there.
When I call out, in a small voice, the world doesn't answer. My words are no different from those of the birds.

red-black, like the last, deepest drop of heartâs blood, brought to light only by violent death.

Youâre going to die in your best friendâs arms. And you play along because itâs funny, because itâs written down, youâve memorized it, itâs all you know.
Richard Siken, âPlanet of Loveâ
You could tell your tale differently this time, I suppose. But you wonât. Your name will always be Ivan Nikolayevich. You will always go into that tent. You will see her scar, below her eye,  and  wonder where  she  got  it.  You  will  always be amazed at how one woman can have so much black hair. You will always fall in love, and it will always be like having your throat cut, just that fast. You will always run away with her. You will always lose her. You will always be a fool. You will always be dead, in a city of ice, snow falling into your ear. You have already done all of this and will do it again. I am only here to make sure it happens.

Now I hear crash and rending of boughs and the crack of antlers as if the beasts of the forest were all hunting, all rearing high and plunging down among the thorns. One has pierced me. One is driven deep within me.
