when it finally happens they shouldn’t lower the flags to half mast, they should raise them to 1.5 mast. add some mast to that mast. maybe some balloons too.
The idea of listening to no black music is bizarre to me. Even if it's not rap like no earth wind and fire? No reggae? No moonstomp? No ska? No classic jazz? No R and B? No disco??? No skindred? No jungle? No even like metal bands with a few black members? No gospel? Not even stuff like alors en dance? No blues music? No mo town? No jazz of any kind? No big band? No soul music? Not even a little James Brown?
not even yola or tanner adell or brittney spencer or tracy chapman or india.arie or chapel hart or the carolina chocolate drops or rhiannon giddens????
Or…
Hemlocke Springs (alt rock/new wave revival),
the Noisettes (indie),
Skunk Anansie (hard rock/metal),
Tamar Kali (rock/punk),
Valerie June (country/blues),
Santigold (indie),
Bloc Party (post punk revival/indie rock),
O Children (goth),
Lord Scary Black (goth),
Cemetery Sex (death rock)
a few more artists i love:

winter wolf (punk, metal)
erzulie (punk, rock)
youth man (punk)
the 1865 (punk)

here’s a playlist with a good mix of the above genres + some alt & indie from Black artists
I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy
Here he is, the Aldi Cowboy
My old person take today is that I feel like people have normalized being on your phone every single moment including when you're spending "quality" time with others so much that they're defensive if someone isn't ok with it. Yes, you have a problematic relationship with your phone and social media if you physically cannot put it down for a couple of hours to like, have dinner with your friends. It's a show of respect for other people's time and energy as well as important to be present and connect with people around you. Your parents who told you no phone at the table were right for that one.
To the ant that bit me on my penis
im saying shit like this to women all the time
some of yall online seem to think people who are pro sex work support it because we think sex work is Empowerment and Feminist Praxis or something. bitch nobody thinks sex work is empowering it's a goddamn job I just want the people doing it to be safe
what we're actually saying: "banning sex work is only going to make the abuse more rampant and punish any victims who try to get help. we need decriminalization, unions, and serious regulations"
what people are somehow hearing: "umm actually hot titties women is praxis for my dick"
in happier pride news i actually found this deeply heartwarming
that's solidarity baybeeee

I know this is a tiny part of the wider problems born of diet culture, fatphobia, classicism, and racism but like god the idea that "healthy" food must inherently taste bad has completely ruined us as a society.
Every time you feel bad for having coffee with cream and sugar or ranch on your salad or putting extra butter and salt on your veggies I want you to imagine the spirit of John Harvey Kellogg in front of you and then I want you to kill him with a real gun and eat your delicious food in peace.
