Can't get out of the holiday mood? It's the first Monday of the new year, but it feels so soon to go back to work or school.
Some of us didn't even stop working. No matter what the holiday is, some of us cannot afford to lose a day of income, to make ends meet, to feed our families. Some of us don't even have a sense of "holiday" anymore—every day is just the same. Some of us kept the shops working so that everyone else who's on break can enjoy.
Breaks should be rights and not privileges. But in the real world, and for most of us, holiday breaks are not free. So personally, I regard the holidays as a privilege which just happened to be customary—that's why we were disappointed when it was formally announced that December 24th and 31st are special working days.
So, if you were able to have your holiday break, I hope you got whatever you need—healing, break, money, reconnection, silence, joy, books, time to process your pent-up thoughts. I hope that the holidays gave you enough time to organize your life for this new year ahead.
Satisfied or not, we have to acknowledge that our vacation is now ending. We have to return to our hectic realities because we have responsibilities. We have families to feed, jobs to finish, credits to pay, dreams to fulfill. "Finished or not finished, pass your papers."
And if you kept working during the holidays, thank you very much. Thanks for keeping the world working so that the world doesn't shut down. Thanks for accommodating our groceries, for providing us transportation, for tending to our wounds anytime we needed help, for maintaining peace and order, for being our eyes and ears—just whatever you did, thank you.
May you have a peaceful first week!
