ellie williams is a LESBIAN. this is not a “headcanon” debate, it’s CANON. the fact that people are so comfortable taking one of the most prominent lesbian characters in gaming and then rewriting her as bisexual is so telling. there is a huuugee difference between making an unlabeled or straight character queer and taking a character who already represents a specific marginalized identity, and changing that identity because u think it’s inconvenient. headcanoning a straight character as queer challenges the assumption that everyone is straight and creates more representation. headcanoning one of the few explicitly lesbian characters as attracted to men does the literal opposite. it takes away from lesbian representation and reinforces the idea that even when a character is clearly a lesbian, people still feel the need to make her more “palatable” by adding attraction to men(?). lesbians are constantly told that our identities are restrictive and temporary, or just a stepping stone toward attraction to guys. you can enjoy whatever ships or aus you want, but pretending that changing ellie from lesbian to bisexual is somehow the same as making a straight character queer is a veryy false equivalence.
