Teddy nodded carefully, “She’s missed you too, that’s why she got so excited.” he reminded the girl. Dominque had been distant lately, and he couldn’t deny that he was a little concerned. “Hey, before you go, can we talk for a moment?” he asked, nodding in the direction of the books that had been scattered. “Is this about your dad? Or me?” he questioned, recognizing the titles about lycanthropy.
He had done quite a lot of research on the subject himself, wanting to understand the condition that had afflicted his father, and to see if he could learn anything about the small affects he had himself. Truthfully he felt he stood as a great example against a lot of the fear-mongering, he was the child of a werewolf, but he was not one himself, nor did he consider himself to have any serious symptoms.
“You know, if you have questions, both of us would be open to talking with you. I’ve certainly read rather a lot about it, and I am your professor as well.”
Dominique followed his gaze and felt her heart leap violently in her chest when she understood what he meant. She tried to speak, but the words would not come, and she searched in her brain for the right words to say next. You can trust him, a part of her was screaming inside her, but the rational part of her made sure to slap the thought away.
Relief swept through her at the mention of her father and himself. It had only been a brief moment, but the fear of Teddy finding out about her secret made her whole body tense.
“It’s about both of you, actually,” she said after a moment of silence. “I was just trying to figure out if one of you had any symptoms we should keep an eye on… It’s just that… He’s my father, and you’re like my brother and…” She felt terrible for lying to him. For lying to everybody. But this seemed… too much. “I’m sorry. I just should’ve asked you…”
