TL;DR basically everything martin said to jon this episode was a coded version of the real things he wanted to know. him wondering what gertrude would be like in this situation was him indirectly asking whether he was a help or hindrance to jon in undoing the apocalypse and every other question was testing how honest jon was willing to be with him
