This is so true, I remember when my twin brother had a meltdown around the time a black kid was killed for walking with a candy bar. My mom told us that we cannot do this in public and that it’s really dangerous because the cops will shoot us. My brother was terrified and he cried a lot.

When he was 7 a white woman called the cops on him because he touched her coat at the park but was sitting on a bench. When he was 14 the cops followed him while he was walking home from school because he is physically disabled and walks in a strange way, the cops just assumed he was on drugs. I try very hard never to have meltdowns in public because it’s so dangerous and now that I’m transitioning I realized I’m in even more danger than before.

Being black really does effect everything. White trans people move around the world differently, my parent is a white trans woman and she moves around the world with a much more care free attitude. She doesn’t worry about things I do and assumes things will go a certain way, I often wish I could be as care free as her, but if I expect the same things she does, I will be killed, so I can never relax like that. Sometimes I feel like she moves around the world in a more childlike happier way and I simply never got to have that, people don’t understand that black children never get to be children because we always have to balance the threat of death before everything else.
