I just binged the entire Host Club anime again, and I just need to talk about the ending?? And how it's a dramatic Tamaki/Kyoya plot until Haruhi tags in at the last minute?? They even took out the plotline that would have made it Tamaki/Haruhi from the start!
Exhibit A: Tamaki's crisis of faith starts with this
Which is only significant because minutes later, this happens
Which is the only reason this worked at all
Meanwhile, Kyoya gets all the faithful/stand by your man lines usually reserved for the heroine at this point
And what's Tamaki's reason for leaving in the end? He thinks that staying...
Kyoya and everyone else. It's just stated here that Tamaki's main concern is Kyoya.
And finally, it's Kyoya who drives the Rescue Tamaki plot
He even gets the dramatic oh-my-God-there-he-is window scene!
The handful of times prior to the handoff we actually see Haruhi, the focus immediately cuts back to Kyoya. They could have had the grandmother threaten Haruhi's scholarship like the TV series. But no. The whole reason Tamaki leaves is because he's causing trouble for Kyoya, which makes Haruhi's line at the end "After all this time we've been together, you can't even tell the difference between a joke and the truth?" make more sense coming from Kyoya.
Conclusion: IT SHOULD'VE BEEN KYOYA IN THAT DAMN CARRIAGE.
Lovely to see we have spaces where you can gain access to so much literature!
I use Libby all the time. Highly recommend it as a way to support your local library.

most interesting relationship Talia has with another man is her own brother. they should kill off varkas for more gareth screentime
them
I didn’t realize there’d be so much controversy in the forgotten field fandom. I only just started reading the manhwa and I love Thalia so much. She’s so unpleasant and frustrating and she’s the kind of disaster you can’t look away from. I also like Ayla. While I do think the story needs to give her more of a discernible personality, her positioning in the story is pretty interesting. Just like Thalia is an echo of Senevier, Ayla is an echo of her own mother (Bernadette?). While that manifests for Thalia in her beauty, which is what Senevier is best known for, Ayla seems to take after her mom not just in looks, but also in that her kindness seems very calculated and she seems to have a pretty good instinct for social politics. She’s kind of the only one that seems to be an active player against Senevier rather than a pawn on either side. I just want to shake Thalia by the shoulders and tell her to stop letting her mother use her as a pawn and start thinking about what would be best for her since she knows none of these people have her best interests at heart. Thalia is such a tragic character which makes it so hard for me to not love her and while I don’t think I can say she’s a good person at this current moment, she definitely has a lot of capacity for it, but no one has really ever given her a reason to be anything but a terror (including Varkas) and for almost her whole life being a villainess was her only means of survival as a princess with no support.
Free service with ads: Well, if I'm not paying for it they have to foot the bill somehow.
Paid service with no ads: Well, if they're not funding it with ad revenue, they need to charge us something.
Paid service with ads: Well that's bullshit.
"We used to be a paid service without ads, but now we're putting ads in it! If you want the ad-free version you have to pay more for preeeeemium": Fuck you fuck you fuck you
I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.
silly little sketches I made weeks ago, but didn't finish and wasn't going to post, but here they are anyway
Can’t risk it
The duck of creativity. I waited so long for it.

If I had a coin every time you offered me glue, I would have three coins. It’s not a lot, but it’s weird.
For the love of God, sound on.
can you imagine being a parent in the pokemon world and your kid comes home with one of those straight up basically human pokemon. i know those motherfuckers can talk.
its morning. i see my childs Throh getting some oj from the fridge. 'morning', i say. he doesnt catch himself in time and says 'morning' back. he freezes and we both stare at each other knowingly. 'throh,' he says, but its too fucking late
For the last goddamn time...
"Kill your darlings" means "if something is holding you back, get rid of it, even if it sounds pretty."
That's it! That's all it means! It means if you're stuck and stalled out on your story and you could fix the whole block by removing something but you're avoiding removing that thing because it's good, you remove that thing. That's the darling.
It does NOT mean
That you have to get rid of your self-indulgent writing
That you should delete something just because you like it (?wtf?)
That you need to kill off characters (??? what)
That you have to pare your story down to the absolute bare bones
That you have to delete anything whatsoever if you don't want to
The POINT is that you STOP FEELING GUILTY for throwing out good writing that isn't SERVING THE STORY.
The POINT is that you don't get so HUNG UP on the details that you lose sight of the BIG PICTURE.
Good grief....
Also, you don't have to like, delete it from existence. Keep a second document full of the Darlings. You never know when you'll need it later.
yes, your killed darlings are ripe for rebirth
compost your darlings
recycle your darlings
Darlings who don't fit this narrative go into the use later folder

tbh a lot of my advice boils down to “hey you know that terrible horrible looming thing you’re doing your best to avoid and distract and escape as much as possible but no matter what you do it just keeps looming and looming and ruining your life”
“just, fuckign, run straight at it screaming.”
i needed this as a background
