you have a point about people not liking fob because they’re homophobic/racist, but if I didn’t actually listen to fob I would think they occupied the same niche as maroon five. a lot of people hate fob because they hate their hits and haven’t heard anything else, so of course they’re surprised when you play something that doesn’t sound like shitty high school soccer entrance music. at the same time fob has billions and billions of streams and is one of the most popular bands in the world lol I wouldn’t say they’re underdogs (anymore)

I do agree, like Centuries has done them no favors. But I think more, like, their place within social consciousness today has grown from just a pre-existing culture of hating Fall Out Boy for homophobic/racist/sexist reasons. The way a lot of people clown on Nickelback for sucking but never actually listen to them, which I am so totally guilty of. Maybe there's a good reason to hate Nickelback or maybe there isn't, I don't know, but I don't think people really hate Nickelback because of what tiny portion of their music they've heard, they hate Nickelback because we all hate Nickelback. Maybe for similar reasons to Fall Out Boy, maybe cause their music genuinely sucks. Couldn't tell you which. Tbf, if all I ever heard of FOB was Centuries, I also probably wouldn't like them much, but most people HAVE heard better Fall Out Boy songs that are more representative of their discography like Sugar or Thnks fr th Mmrs. At the end of the day, I think people hate Fall Out Boy first because they know they are supposed to (even if they don't know why) and songs like Centuries are after thoughts. Maybe they aren't underdogs but they certainly get underestimated.
