This culture of claiming everyone’s gender identity is ”valid” no matter what has to be so unhealthy. Some people struggle with their feelings and so they turn to the trans community, thinking that the problem lies in being transgender. It’s reasonable since transgender issues seem to be brought up a lot in the media. However, a lot of these people might not actually be trans. They could have some other serious issues going on, which they mistake for being trans. These issues could be clinical depression, severe internalised misandry/misogyny, unresolved trauma (especially a sexual one), eating disorders, body dysmorphia, depersonalisation and even some serious dissociative disorders. They could also unconsciously use their transgender identity as a form of escapism. The list is long and every case should be looked at on individual basis. To assume that everyone who claims they are trans is always valid and never-to be-questioned, no matter the circumstances is harmful. You’re making it less likely for them to seek appropriate help. You’re also making it more likely for them to transition when another solution is needed. It’s like trying to fix a broken leg with a band aid. We need to make people aware of all these other conditions that could have led them up to feeling the way they do! We need to raise awareness about other conditions, make sure people don’t mistake them for being trans. We need to ensure they receive appropriate treatment. We can’t have all these vulnerable people slap a transgender label onto themselves and overlook all these real, underlying issues they could be experiencing. Please stop enabling it. Not everything can be explained with transgenderism, nor should it. Remember that every person you meet is a unique individual with unique, complex issues.
"valid" is a stupid idea for a blanket term to reassure people anyway, it just tells them to stop looking for answers and help. That gets people hurt.
