I’m working on a Kleinphy fan fiction based around the idea of a Rent production, so I was going to just quickly throw out a short snippet! It’s definitely slow-burn, and they’re not near friends in the beginning, but I just wanted to gauge people’s reactions to it, especially since it’s in the perspective of a character I don’t typically write for.
The theatre clique was a rather established group within the boundaries of high school. Most people knew everyone who often partook in the plays and musicals, and it was entrenched into the populus who would you would see in the cast and crew. Most of them balanced multiple other extracurriculars on top of it and were straight A students. They were kind to everyone. They were well-known and high-regarded by their fellow peers. Hearing those things, one of the last people that would ever be considered to be a theatre person was Connor Murphy. There were a lot of ways to describe Connor. Stoner, short-tempered, loathed. However the student body chose to look at him, he sure wasn’t anywhere near the theatre kids, personality or popularity wise. Yet, here he was, for some reason auditioning for something he was almost certain he would never get into.
He would have never been in this situation if it weren’t for one—well, two—people: his mother and sister. Ever since last month, his sister had been forced against her will to keep a close eye on her brother after he had gotten out of the hospital. There were strict guidelines that his father had put into place which Connor didn’t follow, as would be expected. Instead of ratting him out to their parents, Zoe had kept her mouth shut for the most part so Connor could go on with his nights of sneaking out and smoking. There was still a slight disconnect between him and his sister, but they had grown to at least put up with one another.
Of course, Zoe hadn’t been doing all of this for nothing. She expected something out of it, and that eventually came in the form of auditions for the winter school musical, Rent. The theatre department was short on men, and since the musical required many male leads and the director had not been willing to budge on his ‘dream production’, she had casually mentioned that he should try out. She had purposely planned it out to be in front of their mother during their weekly ‘family bonding’ time, though, and when the woman had heard about it, Connor knew there was absolutely no way he was getting out of it. He had even confronted her about it after they were out of earshot of their mother, and she simply told him that if he hadn’t gone to the audition and at least put an ounce of effort into it, she was going to tell their mother and father about how he had broken almost the entire list of rules they had set for him.
With that in mind, he begrudgingly agreed to his sister’s terms. One of the requirements was that he attend the audition information meeting in the choir room, where he was soon abandoned by his sister so she could hang out with her theatre friends. He didn’t mind too much; he would have much rather not have to sit and force a tense conversation between the two of them, but without her around, it left him more open to attacks from almost anyone. He could never catch a break.
“Connor Murphy?” He heard a familiar squeal call out, and he couldn’t help but roll his eyes, already preparing himself for some sort of harsh comment. “I didn’t expect to see someone like… You, at an audition meeting. Shouldn’t you be smoking weed in your basement or performing some sort of petty vandalism downtown?”
“Shut it, Kleinman,” he huffed, glaring back at the figure with his dark piercing eyes, and he noticed the gawky teen tense up slightly. Jared Kleinman was possibly one of the most insufferable people he had ever met in his life, and also served as one of the figureheads of his class. He was a valedictorian, secretary of the student council, head of newspaper and yearbook, and, much to his dismay, the president of drama club for his year. It wasn’t as if he hadn’t known this—Zoe had mentioned it to him before—but he had desperately hoped that Jared would skip this meeting so he wouldn’t have to deal with the nonsense that left the other’s single-celled brain.
Well, maybe that had been too harsh; Jared wasn’t the worst person he had ever met. Although, he certainly wasn’t a saint. They never got along from the moment they met in kindergarten, and, as far as Connor cared, they never would. The boy had slandered his name for years, ever since the infamous printer incident in second grade, and he had never caught a break since.
“I’m only here because my sister needed me to drive her here,” he fibbed, his voice in a growl to try and make the other fearfully desert the scene he was attempting to start up. “Now, unless you want to get the utter shit kicked out of you, it’s best that you cower away with your ‘friends’ before I punch your face in.”
Even he felt like he was overdoing it a bit, but it seemed to get the job done, as he watched the brown haired boy roll his eyes, muttering some comment to himself about Connor being a ‘psychopath’ before turning and, once he thought he was out of Connor’s sight, rushing up to his two friends. He knew the other two somewhat well from his select honors courses, and they were much nicer than Jared, as far as he could tell.
Alana Beck, who rarely partook in plays and musicals unless it were for crew (although still somehow landed the role of vice president of drama), sat to his left, and Evan Hansen, a boy who he was sure was just too much of a nervous wreck himself to touch the stage, sat to Jared’s right. If Jared hadn’t been there, Connor could have honestly seen himself befriending the other two, minus Alana’s incessant rambling and Evan’s inability to produce more than a few syllables in every conversation he had ever overheard from the other.
He tried to ignore everyone’s glances at him as he waited for the meeting to occur, knowing their thoughts as they looked at him. No one wanted him here. Everyone was afraid of him; afraid of what he might do. He wasn’t meant to be here, but he didn’t have much of a choice. It was that or be severely grounded—well, more than he already was. He would much rather be under the lenient eye of her sister than their strict father and nagging mother.
Unpopular Opinon
Connor Murphy and Alana Beck are both on the asexual spectrum because we need more representation in the media.
Pass it on.

Kleinphy: Aladdin AU
I guess this didn't send last night so I had to rewrite most of it that I didn't copy from my notes HNNN
I haven't actually seen Aladdin in forever, and I changed a lot of things to fit the limited choice of characters in Dear Evan Hansen and give it a different plot (that's the only reason Evan is in that role I wanted to make him like Jared's merchant friend but I needed someone to be engaged to Connor (and why I added his dad in to be the bad guy because Heidi I just cannot see doing that)).
---
- Jared is a poor boy, left to the streets to rot when he was only a mere child.
- He was always day to day, only focusing on not starving or getting caught by authorities.
- That was until he laid eyes on a beautiful boy who was trying to sneak into the crowds of civilians.
- Jared wouldn't stop bothering the other, much to the boy's dismay and annoyance. Soon enough, though, the boy began to play along a bit with Jared.
- Eventually, the authorities caught sight of Jared, causing him to run off before he could even get the boy's name.
- It wasn't as if he needed it; it wasn't hard for him to recognize the boy being accompanied by a bunch of bodyguards and the king himself, Larry Murphy, as the person he had been swooning over a few days prior.
- Of course, he knew his pursuit of Prince Connor was hopeless from that moment; Jared was little more than a street rat, and, besides, he was promised to a man of a neighboring kingdom named Evan Hansen.
- He had already almost given up until he overheard a local minstrel recounting the legend of a magic lamp that gives the holder of it three wishes of their deepest desires, hidden in a cave deep in the desert.
- Usually, Jared wouldn't have thought twice of something like that; they were just tales for children. Yet, Jared found himself attracted by the idea, and late one night, he snuck a few scraps of food and water from random vendors and made his trip into the desert.
- He was ready to give up by his second day of traveling, fatigued and slightly drowsy from a lack of sleep and slight dehydration, but then, he found a cave to take shelter in for the night.
- Once he made his way in, though, he found that this wasn't a normal cave. There were strange symbols all across the walls, and, after running into some booby traps and almost getting himself severely hurt, he found something sitting in the middle of an empty room.
- That something, he would soon learn, was a lamp; a magical lamp, just as told in stories passed down for generations.
- And once Jared recalled what he had to do to activate its magic - rubbing it - a genie appears, a beautiful woman who calls herself Alana.
- He begs for the lady to make Connor love him, but she states that she can't mess with love, but she did her best to get him as close as she could; she made him a prince.
- Once he actually bursts into the kingdom and made a huge parade for himself, nudging himself into the castle, he began to see some rather... Questionable, things, in the castle. Namely, King Hansen constantly trying to sweet talk everyone and somehow getting his way, even though it seems pretty shady.
- Despite this, he tries his best to romance Connor and convince everyone that he is, indeed, a prince, but, little does he know, he's walked into a huge corrupted party, all being manipulated by King Hansen, especially his son, Prince Evan.
- Drama ensues.
- (Cough cough also Evan doesn't like Connor but he likes Zoe he was just forced into the marriage because his dad wanted to control the land using his son who he manipulates hella badly with that magic stick thing or whatever Jafar used to brainwash people cOUGH)

Fellas I really need an Aladdin Kleinphy AU and I don't know how well I could actually write it so please write or draw this I beg of you I'll love you forever.
Anti-Kleinphy/Anti-Jared Rant
I just saw an anti-Kleinphy post (that has since been deleted because the person couldn’t take a proper debate) and I gotta just summarise my thoughts.
Before I get into my rant I just have to clarify that I ship basically all of the ships related to the teenagers of DEH, so there isn’t any bias there, and I do see all of them as not necessarily good or bad, but instead just… People. And I do like Connor (although he does rank at the bottom of the list) even if I do talk some shit about him. Same with Evan (my second favourite character).
—
I’m not going to argue Jared is a good person; in context of the canon information given to us, he is a complete dick. Even with that, he’s probably the character I relate to most in almost any form of media, so there is some sort of a bias and some sort of reflection onto him. I’m a jerk, but I also care for those around me and try to help/support them to the best of my ability (like when Jared tries to give Evan advice on what to do before the Murphy dinner/For Forever, helps with the e-mails during Sincerely, Me and continues to pump them out every week afterwards (from Alana’s line in her scene after Good for You), agrees to take part in the Connor Project in Disappear, etc.).
At the same time, Connor is canonically abusive, much worse than anything that Jared ever did in the musical; Zoe mentioned, in the scene before Requiem, how her brother tried to knock down her door and threatened to kill her. I feel like that tops Jared’s comment targeting Connor for his ‘school shooter chic’ in the beginning of the musical.
Jared’s joke was rude and uncalled for, but, at the same time, it didn’t seem like he meant it to set Connor off, seeing how he ran off afterwards in fear. I don’t think bullies usually run away from their victims like that, and I don’t think their victims speak up so loudly most of the time like Connor had. It was just a stupid, offensive joke that Jared made on the spot that didn’t land.
The whole ‘Sincerely, Me’ scene is, also, obviously not directly targeting Connor. It isn’t as if he’s acting out in malice; he’s trying to make this incredibly dark situation that Evan got himself into, forging emails depicting a teenager that committed suicide to show to his grieving family, as light-hearted as he can. He isn’t good with taking things seriously, which is clear with how he makes a majority of the jokes in the show. If you look at it as it actually is, without the upbeat music, it could easily be argued to be one of the darkest scenes in the entire show, and Jared clearly wouldn’t want to deal with it in a serious manner.
Speaking of Sincerely Me, Jared is shown being a dick to Evan, but, from them being “family friends” and a few lines from the original Arena Stage production that were later cut (which I try not to use for evidence in my argument since it isn’t officially canon, but this is my only exception since there isn’t anything indicating how long Evan and Jared have known each other (unless the “do you remember when Connor threw a printer at the teacher in 2nd grade” comment counts as that, although they could have also only become family friends later and then realised they were in the same class)), they’ve known each other for years, at the very least, if not for most of their lives. Their relationship could easily be seen as a brotherly bond. Plus, if we look to other people who have played Jared instead of just Will, there are ones that come off as much more friendly (MLB is my main example, for I have not heard many others (except for BLR who I’m still trying to figure out my opinion on) and I’ve only read things for other understudies). A lot of people’s perceptions of any of these characters truly come from their performances, since even a small delivery change of these lines can easily change a character. That being said, since Will is the original actor, he is the version that people always go to when they think of Jared, and, as a result, they often see the harshest version.
Along with that, saying that Connor is a victim of his situation and suggesting that Jared isn’t is a stretch; there is nothing canonically about Jared’s family, other than he has parents (from the scene after the Sincerely, Me reprise, where he mentions “his parents’ liquor cabinet”) and at least one mother, who doesn’t seem to seek more from her son than him just nodding and agreeing (from the scene before the Murphy dinner/For Forever). There is also nothing too solid about his school life, other than (as Evan states from the scene in Good for You) he has no friends. For all we know, he could have a horrible family life, where, unlike Connor’s parents, neither of his parents could care an ounce about him (which would make sense, seeing how desperate he seems for validation and attention from Evan and how he tries to put himself into the emails, but I’m getting into HCs for another post).
—
TL;DR: Jared isn’t an abuser. Connor isn’t a victim of Jared. Connor is honestly a bit (way) worse than Jared in context of the show but we still love him.
thank you!
You're totally welcome!
Originally when I was writing that, the day that post was originally posted, I got about a couple paragraphs in, and I was just going to keep it to myself because I didn't want to come off as too harsh or anything, since even though I seriously didn't agree with it, I believe people should be allowed to their own opinions (plus your retweets did summarise my thoughts for the most part).
After I saw them delete the post and on their (hidden) account seriously say 'I don't want to get into a debate I just wanna state my thoughts don't debate with me' and your post on how the pmed you OH BOY WAS I ENRAGED. I just... Had to get a more realistic and analytical view out there because they seriously used their evidence so poorly and didn't elaborate at all ('Kleinphy is toxic because Jared abuses Connor (and Evan) since he made jokes about him' I just don't understand /how/ that works it feels closer to propaganda than actual evidence (like *cough* Larry/Connor/Evan/etc. being the villain or any character being a 100% saint *COUGH*)).

Hey, reblog/like if anyone out there has watched a boot but is still dying to see the show live, it just doesn’t work out financially, geographically, or timewise (it’s already off Broadway/tour). I’m trying to make a fucking point.
Dear Evan Hansen: Doki Doki Literature Club AU
I got into this game not too long ago and I fell in love, and, obviously, being the huge musical fan I am, I automatically began to try and connect it to a musical, and there was a perfect one with exactly five teenagers that deals with dark subjects that I had to do something with.
I wanted to write sort of a vague plot, but I found it was becoming a bit too much like the game so I just decided to write character outlines (with Jared being the first part of the plot)! Plus, it helps to avoid most spoilers, although, there may be vague things, especially to plot points related to the characters that they are sorta based off.
~~~
Jared Kleinman (The Main Character)
- He never was never seen as a popular kid or a loser at school; he tended to just sail through school, doing the bare minimum when it came to his social life.
- His mothers had felt that Jared only ever speaking to Evan was a bit worrying, so they recommended that he should join a club, which he didn’t seem to take any interest in. If his parents would try to force it upon him, he would claim that jazz band was a club, and he pointed out that he did take part in the plays and musicals, which eventually made the women back down.
- Of course, when they told Evan about them wanting the boy to join a club, Jared never heard the end of it.
- Every day on the way to school and in class, Evan would try and persuade his friend into joining the literature club.
- Honestly, even though it was Evan, the questioning was getting quite obnoxious.
- Eventually, he agreed to come to the club that Evan was apart of, just so the boy would stop annoying him about it, even if he wasn’t very into reading unless it was a video game or a comicbook.
- What he didn’t expect, though, was to actually find himself actually enjoying it.
- It was dysfunctional, but seeing how so many pretty people put their attention on him, he couldn’t help but find himself falling in love with the club, or, more so the fact that he was the center of attention.
Evan Hansen (Sayori)
- A lifelong friend of Jared, and, his only friend, for that matter.
- His therapist had recommended that he join a club in order to work on his socialization skills, so, after looking through a list of what the school had to offer and the size of each, he decided that the best place for him was the literature club.
- He isn’t very good with his words, leading him to be laughably unpopular in the student body, but within the group, he is almost a completely different person, actually being able to speak his mind, although still being extremely polite and nice.
- He is the person who keeps everything stable within the literature club.
- Whenever people begin heated arguments, he will try to calm them down, usually with successful results.
- He isn’t on bad terms with anyone, and is quite friendly with even Connor, although he mostly keeps to the girls, due to how he still has a slight fear of the stoner, especially with his cold demeanor.
- Although it can sometimes be a stressful environment, he finds that the literature club is a place where he can express himself with others unlike anywhere else.
- He is quite shy when it comes to sharing his own works, but he can go on about books he’s read for hours.
- The books he reads are mostly romantic, but nonetheless, he still seems quite passionate.
Alana Beck (Monika)
- She is the president of the literature club.
- Many look to her as the best that the school has to offer; being the valedictorian overachiever she is, she demands respect from whoever is in her presence.
- So, her not going to be a president of a large club and instead creating her own stunned most people.
- It never bothered her, though; she liked the challenge of creating her own club from the ground up.
- She seems to always know about events that happen in her clubmates’ lives, even if they haven’t told her, but it’s often waved off as her simply being rather popular in the student body.
- She is well-liked by everyone and tries her best to treat all of her clubmates with an equal amount of respect.
- When Jared appears in the club, she seems to take an instant interest in him but doesn’t talk much to him at first, instead focusing on her responsibilities as the literature club president.
Zoe Murphy (Yuri/Natsuki)
- She serves as the vice president of the literature club and a close friend to Alana.
- She is the youngest of the club, and even though she’s only a year before her clubmates, she is still treated like a child, especially by Alana.
- Unlike the other members of the club, she doesn’t have a huge passion for reading and writing, but she enjoys the socializing portion of it the most.
- She didn’t want Connor to join the club since it was her safe space away from her brother, but their mother forced it upon her and, in exchange, she got presents constantly, with the biggest item being a car.
- Even though Alana always tends to look down upon her, she looks to the girl as a best friend.
- When Jared joined, she became incredibly friendly, even more than she previously had been, and focuses a lot of her attention on the boy and tries to get the boy to only focus on her.
Connor Murphy (Natsuki/Yuri)
- Even if he likes reading, he didn’t choose to join the club.
- After he ran into some legal trouble and his parents bailed him out, they originally severely restricted him, but after that resulted in some disastrous and downright traumatizing results, including a late night trip to the emergency room, they decided that it would be better for the boy to be forced into some more positive environments.
- Including these plans to hopefully make their son’s life better, they decided that he needed to have a better relationship with his sister and make friends.
- Hence, the literature club was the first place they thought would be best for their son.
- It was met with intense backlash, as was all of the things they tried to get Connor to do, but eventually, the boy reluctantly gave in.
- Why, exactly? Well, he caught a cute boy talking to Zoe about it, and when the boy turned to him and meekly asked him if he was part of the club, he couldn’t find it in himself to say no.
- He doesn’t really pay attention in the club; instead, he mostly sits in the corner reading, writing, or playing on his phone until it’s over.
- There are some exceptions to that, of course. He occasionally does talk to the cute boy, Evan, or bickers with Alana and Zoe.
- For the most part, though, he keeps to himself, and usually gets a little hotheaded whenever someone tries to get into his personal space and is often the reason that most fights within the group start.
- When Jared showed up to the literature club, he kept up his defenses as always, not wanting to let himself be open to anyone, especially not a jerk like Jared.
If you want to write or draw something involving this AU, I would love to see it! Just credit me, please! I tried to not put too much detail in the characters, so people can really play with these characters in they wish to do so.
Kleinsen: Android AU
This is my first post on here, so hello! This probably isn’t my best introduction to Tumblr, seeing how this was rushed in under an hour, but I just had to get it out there!
I have had this idea floating around in my head for months, so I decided to throw it in! Originally I had it in paragraph form with really minute details, but, since I’m never going to do anything with this other than use it as a roleplay prompt, I decided it was best just to put it in simple bullet points so anyone can easily use it as they wish.
—
- Heidi was a well-known inventor throughout the world for her solutions to dire situations such as the energy crisis and world hunger.
- Many saw her as one of the greatest minds of their century, and of possibly all time, but suddenly it seemed she dropped off the face of the earth after she had her son, Evan.
- She loved Evan with all of her heart and gave the boy everything he could have ever possibly wanted. To say he was spoiled may have been an understatement, but he never took what he was given for granted.
- Jared always envied Evan, seeing as the boy had the life he always wanted, namely, a life that had such a strong connection to the sciences.
~Jared was never the smartest when it came to English or history, but if there was one thing he was gifted at, it was inventing.
~He would spend most of his time tinkering with whatever he could get his hands on, trying to figure out a way to improve it or build something entirely new.
- At the same time, Jared also was very… Intrigued, by the boy.
~He would always find himself getting caught off-guard or even slightly flustered by the boy’s words and actions.
~The boy, although Jared wouldn’t admit it at the time, made him happy. He really enjoyed his company, no matter how much he pushed the other away.
- One day, disaster struck; Evan died at the age of thirteen.
- Heidi automatically went back to devoting herself to her work, wanting to avoid the heartache as much as she could, and even, quite possibly, figure out one of the greatest inventions of all time; a way to bring the dead back to life (something, she would soon learn, was impossible to do exactly).
- It was obvious to Heidi that Jared possessed great talent in her field, though, so she would regularly visit the boy whenever she could, collecting data on his inventions.
- Once Jared was old enough to apprentice under the woman, he approached the woman about it, and, after some debate between the two, Heidi eventually agreed.
- Jared caught on quickly, and grew close to Heidi, looking to her as a mom that he felt as if he could trust, and Heidi, to an extent, saw Jared as a son.
- They were certainly close, to the extent where Jared even had his own room within Heidi’s house/lab where he would regularly spend his nights, but there were some things they would never talk about.
~Namely, Evan’s death.
- There started to be a riff in their relationship as Jared grew older, since Heidi always seemed to be keeping something from him.
~He wasn’t allowed into certain areas, and there were certain things he wasn’t allowed to touch or do.
~Along with that, Jared was often given busywork as Heidi went to work on something else that she would never tell him about.
- Jared gets fed up with the feeling of being treated like a child when he is in his early twenties since he now works as Heidi’s counterpart, and is sick of the secrets that she is hiding from him.
- He barges into the room that Heidi had always kept him out of, and before he can even turn on the lights, he hears some sounds, and a voice eventually speaking out.
- “…Jared?”
- He fumbled to turn on the lights.
- Guess who he sees.
- Evan Hansen.
- Well, not actually Evan Hansen, seeing how Evan is definitely dead, and this… Thing, looks as if it’s Jared’s age.
- He thinks it’s a hallucination at first.
- After Heidi finds him in a state of shock and drags him off, scolding him for not respecting her privacy, she explains that she created an android version of Evan and imported all of the memories that she had remembered from his childhood into it, and threw in a bunch of other memories that would have led him up to his current age and situation. Along with that, it can feel emotions and looks completely human, like a grown up version of Evan.
- In other words, it doesn’t even know it’s a piece of technology and thinks that it is Heidi’s dead son.
- Heidi explains that she was making it for a huge comeback in the science community.
- Jared knows better and is actually hurt, seeing how he felt as if he was enough for Heidi as a ‘replacement son’.
- Well, apparently not, and that makes him bitter as hell.
- Jared takes out his anger on the robot version of Evan, yet Evan still clings to him and is super nice and friendly.
- Jared even tells the android that he’s, well, a piece of technology, and points out obvious flaws that humans wouldn’t have.
- Robot Evan never believes him.
- Jared hates to admit it, but he actually does sort of begin to become close to the android version of Evan and care for it, seeing him as the boy he knew all of those years ago.
If anyone is interested in possibly using any of these ideas, whether it be a story, art, add-ons to further the idea, or anything else, you are welcome to do so! I would love to see what you can do with it! Just credit me, please!
(Honestly, I see this more as platonic Kleinsen, but there is nothing wrong with it being romantic either, since Evan is basically supposed to be as close to human as technology can get (and I’m a sucker for those debates about androids being capable of love))
