A performance by 蔡宏毅 (Cai Hongyi), whose specialty is sword dance.
wait that's fucking sick
Whatever you think it will be, it’s not.
You were absolutely correct. It was not what I thought!
since moving here ive noticed europeans have no concept of how few americans ever leave USA. every american tourist youve met is of an economic crust that is vastly unobtainable to the other like. 85% generously. no matter what you have believed i can guarantee this. even getting to canada isnt really a possibility and the mexico-US border is highly controlled and militarized.
to put it into perspective. a ~2 hour flight from london to warsaw is like. 30 to 45 USD?
and a 2 hour flight from one US city to another would be about 130 USD
it was very cheap to fly here. i make over 100k USD now and i dont know if ill ever be able to afford leaving. if that gives you an idea of how prohibitive travel is here. i havent even touched on how the US has Zero guaranteed holidays by the govt. many people here go years without ever having an entire week off of work
this has had a like. massive impact on American Brain and they dont even know it because travel isnt even a consideration economically. they dont even know how much more vacation time european countries have guaranteed
london to warsaw - which is what they specified - literally is £20. flights from london to poland have always been cheap
£20 is actually $22 so really $45 is overestimating
#this also means all the entitled tourists you hear horror stories about are the worst sort of usamericans there are#the wealthy ones

Too good of a point to leave in the tags.
HI WHAT THE FUCK. I thought all those European college age kids being like 'I'm going to see some countries' were just All Rich you're telling me they can travel from one country to another for the price of dinner at a restaurant?????
As an American who’s lived and worked in Europe for almost a decade now, I can confirm all of this. Traveling between countries in Europe is as easy as traveling between states in the US, except that the train and rail systems are even cheaper here.
The vacation thing also deserves to be repeated. Most jobs out here give more vacation days than their US counterparts. It’s built into their economies — a lot of European countries just take it as granted that everyone is going to be vacationing somewhere for a few weeks in summer. Hell, Swedish law mandates that every job gives a minimum of 25 days of paid vacation a year, with the expectation that you take at least 15 days off during the summer months.
All that on top of the fact that governments require jobs provide a certain minimum of paid sick leave — so you’re not using vacation days to recover from the flu or whatever. This is one of the reasons European countries handled COVID better than the US, because people could afford to stay home when they were sick. Although the public health care also helped.
When I first came out here for work, all of this was shocking and alien to me. I kept thinking it was a trick. Now, I don’t think I could ever go back to the way things are in the ‘States.
Yeah, ever setting foot in another country is something most Americans think of as a fantastical daydream for if they ever get rich. I know a fair number of people who have but they all really saved up for it as a once in a lifetime sort of event.
I'm lucky if I can afford to visit my mother once a year or so at the opposite end of my own country. It costs several hundred dollars every time.
If we wanted to fly to just the next state over it'd be at least a hundred too, if we book months ahead. But due to the sheer size of America, the gas to drive there would be almost as bad.
When a person with ADHD complains of severe anxiety, I recommend that the clinician not immediately accept the patient’s label for her emotional experience. A clinician should say, “Tell me more about your baseless, apprehensive fear,” which is the definition of anxiety. More times than not, a person with ADHD hyperarousal will give a quizzical look and respond, “I never said I was afraid.” If the patient can drop the label long enough to describe what the feeling is like, a clinician will likely hear, “I am always tense; I can’t relax enough to sit and watch a movie or TV program. I always feel like I have to go do something.” The patients are describing the inner experience of hyperactivity when it is not being expressed physically.
At the same time, people with ADHD also have fears that are based on real events in their lives. People with ADHD nervous systems are consistently inconsistent. The person is never sure that her abilities and intellect will show up when they are needed. Not being able to measure up at the job or at school, or in social circles is humiliating. It is understandable that people with ADHD live with persistent fear. These fears are real, so they do not indicate an anxiety disorder.
holy SHIT
Ooo okay, I really wanted to know what the source of this was and it’s Additude magazine, a 2021 last-updated-in-2021 article here titled Why Anxiety Disorder Is So Often Misdiagnosed.
I know I vibed with this quote and saw others do so in the tags so I thought a source would be helpful.

Animorphs really has a way to turn every scifi trope on its head. "Why do alien invasions always start in America?" Actually the body snatchers first landed in a Middle Eastern farming community where they kidnapped the first guy they saw, read his mind, and concluded that, since he was terrified of the US soldiers who had brutally destroyed everything he knew and loved, the US would be the ideal place to center their invasion. This is revealed in the spin-off "Visser" which is an excellent stand-alone book that can be read without any prior knowledge of Animorphs. And you can read it for free and with the author's blessing right here:

The reviews are in!
okay if we're gonna talk about animorphs turning kinda racist alien invasion tropes upside down, i HAVE to share the 'aliens built the pyramids' bait-and-switch. from a scene in which the kids talk to an alien android:
“So you all pass as humans?” I asked Erek.
He nodded. “Yes. We live as humans. We play the role of children and then grow older, and eventually our hologram is allowed to “die” and we start again as children.”
“How long has this been going on?” Cassie asked.
Erek smiled warmly. “I helped to build the great pyramid.”
“You designed the pyramids?”
“No, no, of course not. We have never interfered in human affairs. I was a slave. I helped to quarry the stone.
